I purchased these shoes a few months ago for my daily walks in the cold and wet winter. I was looking for a high-top shoe which was waterproof, light, and had traction. This shoe is waterproof and light, however the traction is not the best. I have noticed that the toe portion of the shoe slips on wet pavement when stepping from the trailing foot. I replaced the insoles with ones that are better for my feet. After walking 15 miles a week in cold and wet conditions they are still in good shape and comfortable. I am happy with the shoes overall, however I will be looking for a shoe from Merrell which has better traction on wet (maybe icy) pavement.

I bought these specifically for hiking in the cold and wet, and they get the job done. Haven't tested them in a sustained downpour yet, but so far they have held up to light rain and brief submerging while crossing streams. The ventilation is key, and allows water and sweat to escape while still keeping feet dry (unlike heavier leather boots). With wool socks ranging from heavy to mid-weight, these are comfortable in temps ranging in the 60s down to the teens. Again, varying the weight of your wool socks is key.

They are not as "cousiony" as I had hoped, but they are a comfortable shoe.

I love the boots. The only issue is the left boot makes a noise when I walk and rubs my heel a bit. I'm sure it will break in soon.

One thing I've noticed is merrells tend to run a little smaller than what you normally wear. Other than that, a good brand, but some are kinda pricey.

I've been wearing Merrel Mocs for a long time, but this was the first non-moc shoe I got here. It's been great so far. Very comfortable. Pretty waterproof. Good traction on hikes. The size is smaller than expected.

My first pair of Merrell shoes and I found them to be extremely comfortable, required no break in time and the size was as expected.
Time will tell how long they last and if the waterproofing is gonna live up to its name!

Most comfortable boot I have ever worn. Remove from box and go, no breaking in period required. I absolutely love this boot.
Waterproofing doesn't last forever, but is fantastic for early morning hikes or after rainfall conditions.
10/10 recommend this boot.

I purchased my first pair (Mid top) several years ago for a Peru trip hiking Marchu Pichu . Right out of the box worked great. Spent 7-8 days hiking with no blisters or hot spots. Lasted 5years excellent boots!
Purchased a second pair of low top, they got wet several times and the glue separated the upper from the sole. I was disappointed they did not last very long like the first pair.
Just purchased another pair of mid Moab 2 waterproof. Heading to Alaska now for a 10 day trip. Hoping this pair is as good as the first pair.
I have tried keen and several others. Nothing comes close to the fit and comfort of Merrrell.

I have had many Merrell boots. My only boot co for 20 years. As a geologist, I need good boots. This boot fit perfectly at my size 12 and looks good. It's a bit too low on the ankle for me though so I'm sticking with the Phaser!

Great looking pair of boots. Fits perfect and comfortable with my inserts. It is a little darker than what I expected. Overall it is outstanding.

I have wide feet with what some could call a bone spur on my heels. These are the only boots I've ever owned that didn't cause my feet to blister while backpacking/hiking. The toebox on the wide model fits great. The most comfortable boots I've ever owned. They aren't very waterproof would be my only negative feedback. A quick dunk or light rain and they stay dry. Anything beyond that and they will get wet. I would like to know the proper way to reapply some type of waterproofing and keep breathability.

This is a new hiking boot for me, so really don't know how it will perform and hold up. However, I have confidence in Merrell, since I've been a long time hiker and always wear Merrell.

Its possibly the most comfortable hiking boot I've ever had. The trade off is that its clunky and over-padded. I don't know how they can market these as waterproof though; there are paper towels that are less absorbent.
Overall, you can go all day in these suckers.

After years of wearing numerous different brands of 6" hikers I finally have found a pair that seems to meet my every need. I went to a local store an tried several different sizes before deciding on the correct size to order but when my order came they were a little bigger than at the store. And yes I tried the exact same type of hiker on at the store. It is not a overall negative comment but one that I experienced. I have worn these hikers for almost three months and can tell you they do take the normal amount of break in but after the break in period they feel just like a pair of sneakers. I will definitely when the time comes order another pair but with a half size smaller. I will update the review as necessary.

This is a very well-made boot, but unfortunately, it's a tighter fit than anticipated. (I own the Men's Moab 2 Mid Ventilator as well as the Men's Moab 2 Ventilator; I also own some Merrell casual footwear, and I thought I had the sizing down pat when I made this purchase.)
(It's also a warm boot, and I suspect more comfortable in the colder weather than in the warm weather.)
I suggest getting the wide version if you usually don't get the wide version; if you're already in the market for a wide version of a shoe anyway, you might want to go up half a size. Other than the fit, it's a very well made product; (I'm sold on the Merrell shoes and boots, which I've bought for a few years; the tight fit of this boot has been my one and only disappointment with their footwear.)

I am a big guy and getting older. My shoe size has changed and I need to wear a wider shoe. I like to hike a lot and need good traction and good support and think that Merrill makes just what I need to have happy feet. I have bought several pairs of Merrill's Moab design and am very satisfied.

Very comfortable boot, not waterproof though. Had to walk 300 to 400 yards through knee high grass just before sunrise. So grass was covered with dew. A hundred yards in I had wet toes. Otherwise a great boot.

Boots feel great right out of the box. It's to bad they don't last as long as I would like. I wear them everyday and only get about 6 months out of them until something goes bad. Typically the waterproof fails first.

I've been wearing the boot for 2 weeks now and really enjoy them. The wide size is the first time I have ever worn a w, and its amazing. They do a great job of keeping the foot dry and are very comfortable. The only downside is they do not vent very well and I find my foot sweats more than other boots I've had in the past.

Great shoe, advertised as waterproof so far waterproof. Being waterproof the size is a bit smaller than the regular moabs. Overall comfortable, keeps my feet dry, and dry feet are happy feet.

So, I've had these hiking boots for 3 years now. Over this time I've worn these boots about 90-95% of the times I've been outside. They are instantly comfortable, and especially comfortable for my extra-wide feet. I've never stepped into any footwear that was more comfortable than these, and I really am so grateful for Merrell making these.
The soles are still in decent condition and look to have another years wear on them before wearing through. The lugs have recently worn to flat on the front center and very rear of the sole, but still have plenty of grip left on the sides and front tip.
The rear inner heel area has worn through but is not uncomfortable at all. The real wear has come at the front of the shoe, the rubber toe cap. The cap is all but hanging onto the shoe at this point and there is a hole in one of the shoes where the sole and edge of the toe cap meet. I still wear them but it won't be long before they are unusable unless I repair them with shoe goo or some other means. With any luck the shoe and the sole will both become unusable at the same time, late 2020 perhaps?
I will say the "waterproof" claim was met with serious disappointment after wearing these for about a month before going on a serious hike. I thought it would be totally fine to walk through a couple inches of water, but that was no good at all. For the rest of the day, while climbing a mountain, There was a wetness in the boot.
My overall happiness with the Moab 2 is very high, although it is hard to give a 5 star review when a pretty serious claim isn't met. From reading some reviews from others on this boot, it seems I am not alone in the waterproof frustration. If you are looking for a great hiking boot that doesn't need to be truly water tight, my recommendation is to BUY THIS BOOT. If you need water tightness, either wear plastic bags on your feet when trekking through a little water, or find other options.

It's a great boot!
After a few hikes, no large complaints, but a couple of minor things that keep it from a 5-star:
1) it's probably because it's a waterproof / sealed boot, but my feet tend to get toasty and I would appreciate a little more breath-ability.
2) This is a personal / fit thing, but the top of the boot tends to rub a bit on my ankle bone and gets irritated after a few miles; but again that's nothing against the quality of the boot.
I really like the tread, feel very secure even with snow/mud/rocks/loose gravel.
I haven't been through streams yet to try out the water proof but am looking forward as I hear it works well.
Really happy with my purchase!
