I tried several pairs of running shoes for walking on pavement and jogging and choose these for the best overall support, good cushioning, and good arch support. The new wider toe box is a definite improvement - I tried the last two versions of this shoe and couldn't fit running socks in them without toe pain, and larger sizes were too long. This version feels firm when you stand, but walking and jogging my feet settled in and they felt nicely cushioned and stable. I tried them also with an athletic insole, but took it out since that added too much of a soft squishy feel. There's enough support at top of shoe around the ankle to help with pronation, but I had no rubbing anywhere. I did have to size up a half size for best comfort, which I did not need with the other shoes I tried. My usual size was just a bit short and I didn't have enough room for thick socks. I also tried the Mizuno Waveknit 3, which could be a good running shoe if you do well with a curved back heel. For me the arch support was good and it was very comfortable until I walked, when the back of heel immediately started to rub too much. I also considered the Saucony Triumph (felt great with best arch support and cushioning, but too unstructured especially around ankle; strangely felt too large); the Saucony Xodus IOS (good choice for trail running but too stiff for me for walking and jogging - also has a rocker sole).

I went up half a size since these are for running/walking and one needs a little room for swelling/movement. Excellent heel cushioning and lateral support!

ASICS are finally getting back to basics with the sneakers we all fell in love with years ago. The 22 feels similar to the old box fit-not too narrow. Love it!!!
