Aside from the width issue, I do wish you'd make some simpler looking shoes. So tired of finding only shoes trying to look like an explosion of design on my feet. The Cadyn is the only model I don't dislike. More simplicity please.

I enjoy running in the Escalantes, but I am questioning the quality for the price of the shoes. For the price I paid for I expected a better quality shoe. The rubber on the sole wasted very quickly after 13 miles, the sole of the shoe deteriorates rapidly. The shoe barely last me a month (Ran about 200 miles in them). Altra please take some notes from Adidas Adizero shoe the intercontinental rubber sole is great quality shoe has barely any wear after 500 miles.

Great shoe until after about 3 months I started getting blisters and noticed a hole in my insole. Replace the insoles with Currex insoles.

Since I cannot add to my previous review - I've used the same headline. I love these shoes (still) yet, the tread is all but GONE. The right shoe is making a noise as if there's a rock stuck in the tread. I think it's coming from the horizontal crease under the toes (on the sole). It's as if the crease is about to crack. I might've gotten 100 miles (walking) in them??? I find it hard to believe that a pro-runner would get the same mileage, if not MORE from these. 2 MONTHS IN! That's quite an expensive 2 month shoe life span. Ugh. Thanks Altra. I'd definitely reconsider next time.

This would be the perfect low-cushion lightweight road shoe. Fits true with a wide toe box, just enough rubber on the bottom to prolong the Eva life. Unfortunately the upper is pretty much see-through. I'm not usually wrapped up around how my running shoes look, but being able to see my socks through the shoe is too weird. Had to return these but if they ever make one with a less awkward upper I believe these would be my go to running shoes. Please Altra change this upper!

Bought the special Colorado edition and let them sit in a box past the return period so I guess I'm stuck with them. I finally tried them and they're half a size too big and theres extra material that bunches up weirdly by the toe. In general, I find Altra's sizing to be oddly inconsistant. I have 3 pairs of Torin 4s (probably from diffrerent production runs), all size 10 that are slightly different. One is more like a 11. I really think Altra makes the best shoes for me when I can find a pair that fits correctly.

Where the old racers were near-perfect, the new ones are far too narrow (I have somewhat wide forefoot). Good news, though - the escalante 2.5 feels like the old racer but with more substantial mesh.

I've run in various Altras for the past 4 years. I can't say enough good things about them. I talk up the brand to anyon/everyone. I love this model with one big exception: durability! The heel outsole wore through within 75 miles followed soon after by the toe outsole. I'am now 150 miles into them and will be replacing with the regular Escalante as soon as the new ones drop. Good things: the standard Altra fit, the colors, padding around the heel, and the way the laces 'lock in' my foot.

I really wanted to like these shoes and they did feel good, but I was sorely disappointed to find the rubber outsole coming unglued with less than 2 hours of running (on grass, dirt, road), mostly on right shoe and starting on left. I debated just gluing it back on then thought the company should learn from this. I sent back several weeks ago. Still no refund. So I tried the new Escalante 2s and got them today. Immediately found them uncomfortable due to tightness on the dorsal forefoot and some light lateral toe pressure (not felt in the Racer model nor in the Torins, Lone Peaks, and Paradigms. So now what?

I run 1400 miles/year. I'm not a shoe junkie. I don't like running shoe technology. A worn pair of shoes do not bother me. I wear shoes until they fall apart. I run barefoot at times, I run in distance shoes, I run in flats. I rotate 5- pair of shoes and they all work. I don't "love" any of them. The Escalante works, I might say they are great. Although, there is something weird... I run everyday, wet/dry, hot/cold doesn't matter, I gotta get them miles in. I live in SE Michigan, more times than not, the ground is wet, not raining, simply wet. When the ground is wet, the interior of this shoe becomes saturated in the first few steps. I have a pair of Altra One v3 and this does not happen, and because of this comparison the One v3 is now my favourite shoe that I can't buy anymore. The difference is the knit upper on the Escalante acting like a sponge attracting water and the "sealed toe" on the One v3 does not. The breathability of the knit Escalante is great on a hot dry day, but the difference of the One v3 sealed toe is not noticable in hot conditions.

I really wanted these to work, but I couldn't get the fit right. I normally wear a 10.5 shoe, so I ordered an 11, but they were too small and I went with a 12 instead. Once I got my foot inside, I realized they have no arch support. I tried to add inserts, but the only ones that would fit the wide toe box properly were too uncomfortable. Going back to Brooks.

Having already written a five-star review for my first pair of escalante racers, I feel obliged to inform others and publicly ask Altra for an explanation as to why they loostened the tension of the knit when they made the Chicago. They are way roomier than the Bostons. One can see, even in zooming in on the photos online that the weave is looser, the holes bigger on the later models. It is really noticeable on my feet. I don't have the same control and snug fit in the Chicago. I sent the Chicago back after trying them once, contacted the company and was informed by a kind representative that others had also reported the later models fitting bigger than the Boston. Did they do this for a reason? I cannot believe it was unintentional, but it is, in my opinion, a big mistake. Others with wider and fuller feet might disagree, but I think they had it right the first time, and in the Chicago, and I am guessing later models as well, there is just too much space and the weave doesn't have the same strength and provide the same support as the Boston. I am wondering if anyone has a similar report? Maybe it's just a dream, but I hope Altra will acknowledge what they did and choose to go back to the same weave tightness as the first model of racers. For this is an amazing shoe and I want to continue wearing it for as long as they continue making it. I bought three pairs of Bostons in the meantime.

The shoe lacks the support I need. It feels like I'm running in cheap flip flops. After a long run it leaves my ankles and calves feeling more sore than usual. It's very tight around the midfoot.

I love these shoes. I bought a pair about a year ago, and I have been wanting to buy another pair. But the colors are brutal. Please please please bring more normal-looking colors. I'd buy immediately

I was waiting for ages for Altra to release better colour ways as they're all so ugly. They finally release an all black and they sell out within a week.

I needed some shoes to wear sockless and avoid my usual crocs, and these ones looked great. And they are: good cushioning, extremely breathable, soft mesh. However, the vertical volume (height) of the toebox is not enough and it rubs against my pinky toe. Pity. Unfortunately I'm outside US and the free shipment return only works within the US. And the cost of the shipment from here is too expensive to be worth it.

This used to be my favorite running shoe. Bought another pair, but now the heel digs in with no padding, hurts to run. I reached out and Altra confirmed this change. Wish they would've let us know :\

I had bought a blue pair of Racers in June and they were by far the best pair of shoes I've ever ran in. Then got a grey pair a few months later, I'm very disappointed in them. They feel much stiffer and the heal is no longer flexible. They gave me a blister a mile and a half in on my heal. I have over 2400 miles that I'be ran in the last year on nothing but Altra and have never had a blister. Please tell me this was a mistake and you will change them back to be less stiff. Unfortunately, I will no longer recommend the racer.

This is the second pair of Escalante Racers I have purchased and I am probably returning them due to the year over year changes. On the surface they look the same but they suffer from the same issues that the regular Escalante 2.0 had vs the original. They feel like running in cement shoes. Gone are the cloud like feeling of last years model. I think they used some cheaper material in the sole because it is just not as pleasant of a run. They are also much stiffer in the back of the shoe. I attached a video that shows the blue pair purchased this time last year and the grey pair, just purchased. You can see the amount of flex last years model had. It still remains more springy than this years very stiff model. To be clear, this is not an affect of breaking in, they were always this loose. Just feeling the material on this years is much stiffer. I took them out for what was supposed to be an easy 7 mile run but I made it about 4 miles and walked the last 1.5 barefoot because the new iteration of the Escalante Racer cut up both of the back of my ankles. My feet also felt hotter during my run which is really odd considering what these shoes are supposed to be. I think Altra has finally chased me away as a customer. The original Escalantes were great and many iterations of the Torin were great but the newer models are just meh. I think I will try to find an alternative brand that is still owned by people who care about performance.
