I am so grateful that the King MTs were brought back! These are the best trail shoes ever; Altra pulled out all of the stops on them! I love the low stack so you can really feel the trail, the Velcro strap which keeps your foot perfectly in place, and the more narrow overall fit to keep the foot from moving around. The grippy sole is my absolute favorite, and I am so excited to get after all the peaks now that I have my trusty shoes to keep up! I can't recommend these enough, and hope they will be available in pretty colors at some point (pink please!)

This is my favorite trail running and thru hiking shoe ever! I've tried to find a replacement with other altras/topo/norda/hoka w/no luck. Buying these immediately. Hate the drain holes but whatever. They are the perfect mix of space and support with a low stack height and reliable sole, they have been so reliable in the rough Canadian Rockies and California's Eastern Sierra. If you like Lone Peaks but want a little more stability and security underfoot, these are the shoes!

They are my everything for backpacking, trail running, hiking....so so comfortable, stable and the tres is beefy. Takes an Arizona terrain like a champ. Grand Canyon R3. Let's go! We have our king MT!!

This Vibram Megagrip makes it an excellent choice for any technical trails. The low profile of the shoe also helps provide a feeling of grip and control, while providing the balance of comfort. My favorite trail shoe on the Altra line-up.

I've tried to find a replacement for this shoe for years in stack height and toe box with no success. The lower stack helped proprioception issues from EDS & velcro was helpful with swelling.

I love the fact that these shoes have plenty of toes face and I can wear them very long periods of time without my feet getting tired of wanting out of them

I had these for over two years and I love these. These fit me perfectly. I used them for day hikes and casual walks. I am sad they were discontinued, so now I dedicated these for just the technical terrain day hikes (lots of steep ascents/descents, climbing over rocks, etc. where Lone Peaks 4.5 had failed me). My foot does not slip in these. The Vigram sole never failed on slippery stuff and sheds mud well. I especially like the nonslip lining and the velcro closure. FYI, I have wide feet with narrow heel.

I love the big toe box, they fit great, are super light weight. I will never buy a hiking shoe again that does not have a big toe box.

I bought these for fitness, but they’re so comfortable I wear them all day.
Pros - zero drop helps with shin splints, wide toe box is great for a natural fit, velcro strap keeps laces tied, grips beautifully on multiple surfaces.
Cons - lining is rough and chafes heel when wearing low socks, feet get a little cold.

I love this shoe! It's extra grippy and is my current go-to for trail running. I have a borderline wide left foot and these shoes are perfect. I do NOT find them narrow like other reviewers have said. I would highly recommend.

Love this shoe! Recently ran my first ultra-distance effort on a trail with 4 mountain passes and the shoes did so great. I trained on hot, rocky trails, and the soles were sticky and the rock plate protected my feet. For the big effort, it was cold and raining up at elevation and I had perfect traction and protected feet the whole time! I think it fits a lot like the superior 4's, which I use for days when I don't need the traction or rock plate.

This is my new go to trail shoe. Right out of the box it was a perfect fit for my foot. This is my second pair of Altra trail shoes, and the design updates are a welcomed improvement to an already preferred shoe. The front toe box has not stretched out, the mid foot velcro band provides stability over rocks and roots, and the upper soul keeps my foot drier on those spring muddy trails. I am in love with these. The only suggested feedback I would have it to lengthen the shoe laces, they are a bit short for tying a double knot.

I've tried 3 different styles of Altra shoes for hiking but the Mtn Kings are the shoes I feel work best for me.
I didn't do the correct thing which was to wear them/break them in prior to a hiking trip but thankfully they didn't cause any issues.
The grip of the tread are far superior to the other brands I've tried (particularly for people who may be a bit on the clumsy side like myself).
The Velcro strap helps it feel more secure than shoes with just shoestrings. The inside is incredibly breathabledries faster than the superior (3.0). During a 2 week section hike on the AT, I went with my altra superiors over my Mtn kings and regretted the decision by the 3rd day. During the first week I noticed extreme foot fatigue as well as strain in my Aquiles tendn area. On previous hikes where of 15+ miles a day, the Mtn kings never once left my feet in pain & had very minimal foot fatigue. I have neuropathy in both feet and they have yet to irritate my feet!
I still wear my original Mtn King's (goin on 3 years old!!) whenever I do shorter hikes...I hope they never get so bad that I have to retire them!
I truly hope of Altra ever decides to stop making the Mtn king's, they will let me know so I can purchase a lifetime supply of them! I never want to hike in any other brand or style of shoe!!

I ended up purchasing these shoes right before self supported marathon length run through the Sierras. I ordered a half size up from my normal street shoe size, as my feet measured exactly 25 cm(size 8.5), and I went with a size 9 (25.5 cm). I went for it and wore them on 26 miles of scree, trail, and mud and dirt to break them in. I have never been so surprised by a shoe. No hot spots, no blisters, no mortons hammer, all things I just thought were normal for running more then 12 miles. Personally I love the velcro strap for the downhills, makes it super easy to cinch down for those steep downhills. And the rubber is super sticky, no sliding out over gravel on granite. I also didn't have any extreme foot pain even with the light cushioning, and I would wear these for up to probably 35 mile runs. Over all I am totally converted. So psyched on the Kings!

In one week I have been trail running multiple times and and a 10 mile technical hike. These shoes rock. They replaced my Superiors and I love them. They are super grippy on the rocks and are very comfy. I'm not sure about the Velcro tab and my short socks fell into them but besides that I am happy.

I'm a solid 8.5 in ALTRA Lone Peaks - I had to order a 9 to be able to fit in these. Other than the strap being too short - (who made this model and didn't check the strap length??)
I really do enjoy these shoes!

These fit with the new Altra vibe. They're not wide toebox in what I think of as the original sense, but wider than most.
Otherwise I love the sole thickness and the Velcro strap is my favorite Altra feature ever. Wish more models had the strap.

Only negative was if you have a wide foot the velcro barely reaches. Look even better with black laces

I buy these for work (toddler teacher) and play (tennis, paddle ball, working out, walking dogs). They are so comfortable and depending on the model, very supportive. I had been wearing negative heel shoes for years but that company stopped making athletic shoes. Very glad I found Altra to meet my needs. My single, but tremendously annoying gripe about Altra's for women is the "girly" colors. Please offer some gender neutral color choices!!

I needed a shoe with good tread for hiking since my Solstices are too flat on the bottom and not grippy enough. I'm in PA and live really close to the Appalachian Trail so that's where I hike a lot. It is super rocky but these shoes were a pleasure to hike in the whole time. They offer great traction and foot stability. I love all my Altras!

With the inserts that came with the shoes my right foot wasn't comfortable, had a pain on the outside middle of my foot. Put in my orthotics and much better, still a bit of pressure in the same area. But have decided to keep these shoes, love how lightweight they are and great traction on the trails. I haven't used them in muddy conditions yet ( live in California ) but think they will be great. I really like that strap on the top of the shoe. Very easy to adjust the shoes for tightness going up and down hills.

Unfortunately I had to return the shoes because they were just a little too small. The sale was over so I didn’t reorder another pair. They were comfortable, good looking but narrower than my other Altras but still fine. The shoe laces were short.

This is my first pair of Altra's as well as my very first trail running shoe, and I got to say folks, I really like them!
The wide toe box, zero drop design and low profile stack was exactly what I was looking for to help me run more naturally coming off a knee injury. I put 30-40 miles a week in them on average running and just ran my first 20 miler race in these and loved it.
The velcro strap is great to help lock everything down when you're traversing more technical terrain. The sole is rugged and does well on all types of trail. It allows me to still feel the trail without any sharp pains from rocks and roots.
My two complaints however: the shoe laces are too short on this model. They don't lock well for me on a single knot (constantly will untie) but are not long enough really to do a quick double knot on the fly. You *can* do it but it takes a moment or two since you don't have much to work with.
And secondly, the shoe is true to size. No fault by Altra, but traditionally I always size a half step up from my "true" shoe size when it comes to fitness shoes in nearly any brand (I'm a 7.5 but normally buy 8s). I did the same with these when I ordered online and it was a miss. As a result, my feet will slide side to side inside the shoe a smidgen which causes friction blisters on my instep. I've also snagged my toe a time or two because of the length from being oversized. A good, thick pair of socks help me make these still work though.
In the end, I absolutely love this shoe and plan to buy it again in the future - just remember to order your true size.
