I came back to by my second pair of escalante 2.0s and was surprised by the reviewsI actually really like redesign. I especially think that the interior of the shoe will be more durable. I've lost count of how many pairs of escalantes I've worn, it's def upwards of 10and I still really like the shoe. It felt kind of tight for about 5 runs, but now that I've put over 100 miles on them, I want another pair, so I can alternate. I still have 2 pairs of the 1.5s in rotation, and switch between the different models regularly and don't really notice that much of a difference. Great shoe!

This is my 5th pair of Escalantes. (Wanting a third pair of the 2.0)! I love the sleekness of these. And the stability is a whole lot better. The 1.0 had a way wide toe box and too stretchy. The 1.5 are better. But, I love the 2.0.
I wear them ALL day, everyday! I workout and work in them. I see a third pair in the very near future.

Used these shoes to train and run a tough mudder and my feet have never felt better in the gym or out running on trails! I can't run or workout for long periods of time without pin in my arch in most other brands, but I have been SOOO pleased with the comfort of my altras. They seem to be holding up well too, but I have only had them about two months.

I absolutely am thrilled with these shoes. My entire life I have struggled with road running because of the ankle pain I would start feeling not even a couple minutes into running on hard surfaces like pavement and concrete. But with this shoe it is like a miracle, no pain and I can run for miles on end just like I would on softer trails. Wouldn't recommend this shoe for trail running but it does a pretty amazing job on the roads. The cushion sole hits all the right spots.

I just got a pair today and so far, I've been able to wear them all day and walk without my feet killing me! I had a pair of the original Escalante's and loved them, but they've been ready to be replaced for a couple of years, so I'm excited to be able to have a new pair. I wear a 8.5 and that's what I got in these and they are perfect. Just wish I could have one in each color. :D

I've struggled with calf issues in the past. I switched to a mid foot strike and tried the Altras....game changer! No injures, my speed has increased, and the toe box is incredible! I've recommended this shoe to my friends that struggle with needing a wider toe box, but not needing a true "wide" shoe, ALTRA IS YOUR SHOE!!! Best design and feel! Thank you!

I have had both previous version of the Escalante in a 9.5 and I had to buy these in a size 9. The knit on the upper of these is not as stretchy as the 1.5 but still comfortable and it is more supportive, which I hope lasts as that wore down with the 1.5. there is more room in the toe box than the 1.5, which is good because the upper rested on my toes in the 1.5. I've only had the 2 for two days, but I think it's an overall improvement, still a very comfortable shoe.

I’m new at Altra shoes. This is my 3rd style I’ve tried for fit. I was going to return them due to no arch support in this style and I’m healing from plantar fasciitis so I need something. I decided to try a superfeet insole and it seems like a perfect combination for me so I’m going to give it a try. Love the roomy toe box.

So I have clocked hundreds of miles and due to buy new escalante's as I really like these shoes for minor trail runs and some road runs. I hear people mention blisters around the ankle but I never got them.
for the people that get blisters (at least the ones I talk to), they have 1 thing in common. They are heel strikers when it comes to running form. I am forward foot striker and do not get blisters in or around my heel. something to take note of. I will say I do get minor blisters on my big toes after 10-15 miles of continuous running. But I attribute that to incorrect runner's gait. Either way, when I know I am going to go for really long runs, I wear toe protectors and make sure I am wearing my 5 finger socks.
The only con's I can really say is it has poor performance over slippery surfaces (i.e. muddy trails, ice, snow, etc.) but I guess there are other shoes more in tuned for specific weather. Another con is the price. I believe I got the escalante's when they first came out so a bit pricey. I think any running shoe that has sub 500 miles in them should not be pricey at all. They should find better materials to provide more mileage if they are going to charge alot.
I have done ultra races in these shoes and never had a problem. I like the fact that these don't have too much cushion so I can still feel some of the ground when my feet land.

I hike in Altra's so I'd previously purchase these shoes in black from another retailer to wear at work and could not believe how wonderful my feet felt after a long day. It was as if I had an extra spring in my step and my toes had more room to breath compared to my Hoka Cliftons. I decided to order a second pair to wear outside of work and wore them for a 5 mile walk that ended with my ankles bloodied and blistered. The back was considerably stiffer in the second pair I purchased which I was not expecting since I didn't have that experience with the first pair I'd bought 3 weeks prior. Wore the shoes again with band aids and noticed they'd loosened up a bit and were much more comfortable and not digging at the ankles. My feet feel amazing in these so I would still recommend but I suggest wearing thicker and higher socks the first few times until the ankle becomes less stiff to avoid blisters.

I use to be a Saucony devote, then switched to Brooks for the last number of years as I looked for a more minimalistic zero drop shoe and liked their Pure Flow and Pure Grit models. But this year my big and second toe were starting to rub on longer runs and I just felt like maybe my feet were looking for more room to spread out. Enter Altra, known for roomy toe box. I was a little put off by some of the negative reviews from those unhappy with changes from the last edition of the Escalante to the 2, but I have no complaints as a new Escalante user. Felt good the minute I put them on and felt great on my first run. They feel both roomier and somehow more supportive than my Brooks PureFlow. I'm excited to see how they hold up. The sale price made this purchase feel like a real steal for the quality and comfort.

I have rediscovered the value of the Altra Escalante for foot health. I have unique foot issues that thus far have perplexed every foot doctor I have gone to. A zero drop platform is my only real option. The Escalante takes it all down to the basics. I love the high lace up vamp of the shoe to give my foot the fit and balance it needs. Plus I like the simple style of the shoe. Thanks for keeping Altra shoes in stock, Zappos!

These shoes are the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever had. My only complaint is they wear down easily. I have gone through 2 pairs in 8 months. I do wear them a lot, but definitely don't run long distances. I'm okay with it because I'm a medical provider and get half off, but may be more upset if I paid full price.

I have been using Escalante for three years now. Two pairs of the original model and one of the 1.5. I read the reviews and was considering not purchasing this model given the changes, but I got used to the wide toe box and zero drop so decided those features were more important to me than the added stiffness. After putting about 50 miles on them thus far, my take is that there's no doubt the shoe is stiffer than prior models, however not a deal breaker in and of itself. The cushion is still there, and without much bulk, which makes for a light comfy ride. However, the upper seems tighter on top of the foot (not necessarily narrower) and gives me pins and needles on the toes of one foot by mile 3, and pretty much the whole foot by mile 6. I'm hoping they will they stretch a bit more overtime, but I never went through a break in period with the previous models, so not a very welcome change. Lastly, the ankle collar has gotten way thinner, and almost sharp in some places, it can dig into your skin if you make certain movements. Like everyone else I have no idea why Altra had to alter a perfectly fine shoe that everyone loved. Still on the fence whether I'd purchase again or recommend.

If this shoe had a wider toe box - like the Timp 1.5 - it would get 5 stars. But, as is, it feels somewhat tight in the toe box. I like that it is in solid black and I'm keeping these as I need a pair of all black walking shoes.

I bought the Escalante 1.5 and liked it although it was a bit too "stretchy" for some of the side/agility work that I do. There was either a design flaw or faulty adhesive used in the tread and the tread started coming apart after only 2months of use. Altra exchanged the shoe for the new Esalante 2. I really love the new "feel" of the 2 as it isn't as stretchy and provides the support I need for just about everything I do in them. BUT, same design flaw/faulty tread adhesive- after only one month of use, the tread is peeling loose on these shoes too. While I love the fit and feel of the Escalante 2, I'm not likely to buy this shoe again because the tread doesn't hold up like it should. I guess if they included a tube of superglue with every new pair, the problem could be solved quickly :-) If it weren't for this one problem, I would certainly recommend the shoe to anyone!

I read one review where it said it ran small, but I found it was more true to size. I ordered half size down, but had to return for my normal size. Other than that, I loved the fit and feel. First pair of Escalantes, but I've owned several Torins. I'm excited to give these another shot.

These were narrower than other Altras I can wear. I’m new to trying Altra and I find the Torin Plush and the Lone Peak 4.5 are a good width for me. I have wide feet with bunions. These were too tight when I put them on. I even buy a size larger shoes for running than I wear for normal shoes.

My toes could not move up and down. The shoe was plenty wide and long, but the vertical toe space was insufficient.

Pros:
*They are light
*fitting to foot
*with the right socks you can run like the wind
Cons:
*hug too tightly around the heel
*socks need to go over the achilles tendon so it won't create blisters
I'm not an expert when it comes to foot anatomy. above heel curve below the calf between both ankles. I believe that is the achilles and i get blisters from running 3 to 4 miles.
I am an active runner. Every day I run 3 miles to 4 miles. I have run half marathons, and the most I've run in a day is 18miles.
The shoes I ran in previously are brooks. They are comfortable but decided to try altra since I've heard how light they are. And they are very light. I like the snug fit but I have had a bother on my heels, not the bottom part but below achilles.

Was surprised to find that these are made so much different from the Torin 4. There is a solid insert to which the eyelets are installed and it makes the shoes that much more uncomfortable. It narrows the shoe, especially near the bunion area. In addition, it seems to be almost 1/2 size smaller than the Torins. My toes go right to the edge. I like the style, so I am sad I will return these.

Unfortunately after a couple weeks with these I realize they are causing (or exacerbating) tailor’s bunions on both feet. The toe box is of course wide but perhaps not wide enough in this case.
Will try yet another Altra shoe...

I've loved the Escalantes for the last several years! Including hiking trail shoes. Your newer version just doesn't stand up to the 1.5's- it's stiff and a bit wide and to fit comfortably you have to tie it too tight.... negates the beautiful comfort of this excellent shoe.... especially for those of us suffering w neuromas or orthotic needs- bring back the 1.5's!!
