The Altra King MT is my favorite trail shoe of all time. It's secure, excellent for technical terrain, & durable for the long haul. I've run Spartans, the HURT 100, & Leadville 100 in this shoe. Please keep this shoe in production :)

Put them on and instantly felt as comfortable as my OG escalante racers I used to wear. These are the best trail shoes. Clay doesn't stick to the sole which is a huge plus!

Used these shoes for the first time this past weekend for a Spartan Trail 10k. Couldn't have been happier. Mud, water, rocks, dirt they made it through. Aggressive tread, fast drying and easy to clean. I love these shoes.

I've been on two 5-mile trail runs in these, one in super muddy conditions and the 2nd in frozen mud conditions. Super comfortable and grippy, and shed the mud easily when I sprayed them off after the muddy run. I like the Velcro strap over the laces. My running buddy stopped two times to tie his shoes during the run, but the Velcro strap kept mine tied and from flopping around.

If you are in Arizona trails, here is the shoe. Absolutely love the smaller toe box for quickness and feel. Best trail shoe around for those zero drop runners.

These are the shoes I've been looking for. Light, nimble, grippy, and tough. The toe box is just right, wide, but not too wide. This is everything a trail runner should be. Awesome shoes!

They are just a little better than the first iteration, I was happy to see the Kingmt's were brought back as my first pair are all beat up. Great for muddy and wet conditions as well as tough trails. Looking forward to any new colors coming up.

Best hiking shoe for wet and steep trails that I have found so far. Needed no break in period. Love the velcro strap to keep laces from getting caught on low plants.

My jam is scrambling in desert canyons, alpine scree slopes, and blowdowns in Pacific Northwest forests. I want a lightweigh shoe, with natural foot shape and great lateral stability. The King Mt is the one! My last King Mt 1.5 died a few years ago and it is finally back! If you have considered barefeet in the backcountry, or even 5 fingers (the "toe" shoes), King Mt provides similar foot dynamics with better traction, better foot protection, and better lateral stability. The untimate natural foot mountain shoe.

Best running style zero drop wide toebox hiking shoe around..... And it has Vibram soles...It's my favorite Altra shoe by far... With the mesh and holes in the sole it's fast drying... You could spray the shoe with waterproofing and if you don't like the holes you can plug them with some sort of silicone... The only other shoe that I like this much is the Vivobarefoot Primus trail 2 FG...I've been waiting for this type of shoe to come out since 2003...

I liked the first pair so much I bought a second pair. I'm afraid they will stop making them again. I've never worn a trail shoe that feels so solid and stable with just enough cushion. Perfect!

They have extremely confident footing on all surfaces, and weren't as harsh as I was expecting on the rocky descents. However, if you aren't used to training in minimal shoes, your results may vary.

Incredible show for seeing socal technical mountain CR's of which I have grabbed many in these. I wear a12 in most shoes and have the original release pair in a13 and the new release in a 12.5. They both for but if I'm going for a course record for time I wear the snugger pair. If they came out with a carbon version of these it would be a shoe that would be beyond reproach in its abilities on technical mountain running. I'd buy em.

I saw these and had to try them. Minimalist but rugged with serious protection. Tried them today on a 6mile VERY technical trail. Hit stumps, rocks, mud boulders and gravel. Handled no problem. Feet totally locked in and LOVE the adjustable strap on top even though makes tying kind of a pain. But I knew this going into it. Did about one mile on asphalt and fair cushioning however would not want to use this on a longer pavement run, but again not what it's designed for. Vibram sole did awesome job letting me cover jagged rocks that I thought were going to hurt but not even a wince. Hit my toes a few times and bumper in front protected them nicely. I'm coming from lone peak which is more like a luxury SUV where this is like an old school HUMMER IMO.
If u r looking for a super cozy, soft and springy shoe THIS IS NOT FOR YOU! if u want a minimalist zero drop shoe w legit protection and flex, handling lots of hairy trails w ease and sturdy well designed body, THIS IS A LEGIT shoe and should be in your arsenal.
I only run in Altra after using all thebu

This shoe is an absolute beast!!! The traction, the medial strap to lock in your mid foot, the hard, but thin mid-sole with built in stone guard, the durable but light weight upper.... Nearly a perfect shoe!! Quick sprints up a mountain, gnarly runs through the canyon, the most grueling trail ultra - this shoe does it all and then some!!!

Excellent trail runner. I enjoy the Lone Peaks, but they always felt a little clunky in comparison to the Escalante Racer (original version), which is my preferred road runner. The King MTs are the Escalante Racers of the trail running world. I've already done several trail races (from 5k to 21k) and plenty of runs in these shoes, and they are perfect for off road. I keep asking to be notified when they restock, and keep missing out because they sell out before I check my email. Keep stocking them, please because I will buy several pairs as soon as I can!

I picked these up hoping they would work for scrambling and easy technical routes in the alpine, and I am happy to say that's definitely seems like the case after wearing them for some Flatirons scrambling (Boulder, CO).
The Vibram rubber is grippy, great for smearing on slabs. I've had megagrip on approach shoes before so no complaints there.
The shoe locks on my foot better than I expected. I initially thought the roomier toebox would compromise climbing capability but the velcro strap actually works pretty well to keep everything in place. My foot still moves around a bit, but it's like there's a "stop" where it will not continue to roll and everything feels pretty solid.
So far so good, looking forward to getting some good mileage on these.

Just took these for my first trail run, and these are the hiking/trail running shoes I've been looking for ever since I began my barefoot/minimalist shoe journey about 3 years ago!
Some background, when I am not hiking, running, playing basketball or playing baseball, I am pretty much exclusively in very low stack height shoes (mostly Vibram Five Fingers these days). So, I love super minimalist, barefoot shoes, but I don't really understand how people can run long distances and/or on rocky, unpredictable terrain with practically nothing between their feet and the ground.
A 10 or 12 mm stack height like you'll find in Xero or Vivobarefoot hikers is fine for a light hike, but if I'm going to be running or carrying 35+ lbs on my back, it's just not enough. I had previously been wearing the Altra Superiors, and, while they were the best I could find, they have too much arch support, mediocre grip, and just a wee bit too much padding.
Enter the King MT 2. Perfect amount of ground feel, phenomenal grip, and the arch support is barely noticeable. If you love barefoot shoes, but need a little bit of padding for running and/or hiking, this is the best shoe ever!
Now, Altra, please make an all-weather version so I can wear this in cold and wet conditions too!

One of my favorite shoes of all time is back. Small stack height with excellent lugs makes for a shoe with great ground feel and traction for the most rugged of routes. The strap on top is not only great for giving a secure fit, but by strapping my laces in there I can 100% be sure of no untied shoes with the Kings. Love this shoe and glad it's back in the mix
