I'm new to Altra and this is my second pair. I'm not sure why people say that these run narrow. I find the fit perfect. I love them. Great shoes.

I'm a suppinate and have big ol flippers for feet that are fairly wide. I'm not sure I've ever had a shoe that fit me well now that I've had these. It's amazing how less sore my feet, ankles, and even knees are. Granted this review is after a single first run but so far - I'm a convert to Altra. Wow.

These are my first pair of Altria's and I love them. I'm only a couple runs into the shoe, but I must say they look and feel great. The Escalante 2s are light and extremely comfortable. I saw many complaints about the shoe, but I think it may just be people being picky. They're great shoes. I think Altra will be my brand from here on out.

Totally disagree with the negative comments, glad I pulled the trigger. I think this is an improvement to the 1.5 and a much better shoe. I have been running in Escalante since it came out and love this model and will be running in the 2's for a long as I can get them.

Just got these and went on an 8 mile run. Good support. Bit firmer and stiffer than the Vanish XR that I had been wearing previously, but I actually am looking forward to the additional padding for longer runs.

The Escalante 2 has more structure and has lasted longer for me, while maintaining a wide toe box with plenty of volume. Other models have less volume for wide feet, but these are really good.

The shoe fits my foot well, it gives my toes room to move while still holding to my foot. The cushion is enough to soften the foot strike while still letting me feel the road and adjust my stride accordingly.

While I had to downsize 1/2 size from the Escalante 1.5s and 1s (kinda confusing, but whatever) and found the toe box to be just slightly more snug, I really like this new model. I'm about to retire my first pair and just bought a second. The design of the sole sees much sturdier, and the shoe seems slightly more snug across the mid foot and toe box; this seems to be part of what many people are complaining about, but previous models always felt there was way to much extra room to slide around in, particularly when cornering. This is coming from someone whose feet aren't really that wide, although I've always still loved the wider toe box that Altra puts in their shoes.

Great for running and wearing around town. It is quite stiff which I like.

I cannot think of a better show for a moderate runner like myself, who can feel the benefits of a flexible, zero drop product.

I've been using a pair of Escalante II's for over a year. It's more stable than the Escalante's it replaced and just as good in every other respect. It's my choice for races up to 15k and training below that distance, on a combination of pavement, gravel and dirt paths. For longer distances or poor footing, I prefer my Torin's.

This shoe has been good to me. I am 46 years old and am relatively new to running (first 10K was in 2018). I have completed two marathons (Atlanta in March 2019 and Richmond in November 2019) and am currently training for Chicago. I trained exclusively in Altras (the Torin and the Escalante) for Richmond, and ran Richmond in the Escalante (set a 15 minute PR at 3:38:37). More important, and in contrast to my first marathon training cycle, I made it through my second training cycle injury free. Currently I have two pairs - one with 190 miles and one with 84. Understanding that the Escalante is considered a speed shoe and considering my build (6'3" 188lbs) I am impressed with its durability. After 190 miles the shoe still has pop and the rubber outsole still has plenty of life. I use the Escalante for all types of runs. While it is more fun on faster workouts, I find the shoe to have plenty of protection for longer efforts. There is no question that it takes a little time to get used to the zero drop platform. However, I have no doubt that this shoe has helped my running form. The Escalante is an important part of my current rotation and I expect it will continue to be for some time. I am curious to see how Altra will respond to market's push toward newer foams and carbon plates.

These shoes have been a joy to run in. I honestly amnot sure why the average rating on these is just below a 3 star, to me they were a big improvement over the 1.5's, and I liked those also! I do think they are more narrow than the last version, but really only in the heel and mid foot, which for me was an improvement, my toes still have lots of room but my heel never slides around, it feels so nimble! I rotate through several pairs of shoes and every time I wear the Escalante 2's I wonder why I wear anything else. These are great for just about anything, I've worn them for easy days, workouts and long runs up to 16 miles. I highly recommend!

I didn't use the Altra 1 or 1.5, but I love the 2. I've used NB Summit Unknown, Vibram 5 fingers, Merrel Trail Glove, Kinvarra's, and some barrfoot, and I didn't have enough support to put in my best 5-6 days per week. I have been using these for speed, interval, hill, and long steady distance days, and it not only gets my patellar to relax (unlike my pegasus 36's, was looking for squish but got too much) but supports my overpronation (from a foot break and tendon injury) from 30 minutes to (so far) 3:30. Not bad grip on loose gravel and trails either but not their fort

Have run in every version of the Escalante and feel it just keeps getting better. I agree, this version requires some break in. But it actually started feeling nice in the first run.

I am a ~35+ mile a week long-distance runner (and building) who previously owned the Escalante 1.5. I love both shoes a lot, but this one has vastly improved the somewhat poor durability of my first pair. I have just crossed 450 miles on these shoes and they look and feel almost new, whereas the older pair was dead at 500. Like all altras, if you don't run with 0-drop or aren't used to them, then they're gonna start off a bit rough, but overall, I heartily recommend this shoe to any road-runner out there.

I purchased the Escalante 2s because I like to run in more neutral, natural-feeling shoes, and I am incredibly pleased with this shoe because it is unlike most of the other shoes on the market, and it allows room for my toes to spread out in the toebox while still providing a very nice amount/type of cushioning and zero drop. These shoes are great for wearing around or for running, without having a ton of strange components pushing up into my foot or changing my stride (which has been my experience with many other brands). The color selection is great and the shoes seem very durable and well-constructed.

I bought these for my 11 year old son who is now wearing an 8.5 in men’s. He loves these - they are very comfortable and he loves the colors. He basically wears them daily.

I bought the black-on-black version as an all-round shoe -- I commute on my bike and walk more than run these days -- and have been amazed at how comfortable they are. I love the light weight and breathability. The wide toe box, the true-to-size midfoot and heel fit, the flat sole, all contribute to make wearing these shoes most pleasant. My only question is, how long will they last?

I am 5'11" and 165 lbs and a strong amateur triathlete. I have very flat feet and have never found a non maximalist shoes that gives me a comfortable ride. I branched out on whim to try the escalate after running in the Torin plush for months and was shocked by the fit, feel, and ride of the shoe. It has performance fit with a nice heel lock. The sole is the perfect combination of cushion and responsiveness that give you amazing feel for the ground. It transitions nice from the pavement, gravel, and to the track. The shoe can do it all. It has done wonders for my running encouraging ideal running form and foot strike. The only improvement I would make would be shorter laces.
