oh boo hoo. I loved the older model. it was my all-time favorite shoe. And it looked really good too! I walked 10 miles a day in it almost every day. I don't like the new model. it's stiff and constricting. I'm so disappointed mainly because I was simply in love with the older model. and it's not as good looking either but that's not as important. please bring back the old model!

Lacking space in the toe box totally invalidates the point of this shoe. I have superior 4, and escalante racer and they fit like a dream. These feel like somebody designed them without the insole. Without the inside they fit great. With it no space inside the shoe for my slim but slightly wide feet. Total disappointment. Altra please not back to your core philosophy.

WAY TOO NARROW. I am a veteran Altra running shoe person. These are my fourth pair. I'm not sure what Altra is doing, but with the insoles in, these do not have enough volume for my slim but wide feet. I don't have high volume feet, but I am wide. Not sufficient room in the upper to accommodate my relatively normal feet. Seems to violate the whole premise of Altra shoes. Very disappointing.

I didn't realize how bad these were until I switched back to the 1.5. Previously I had went through two pairs of the 1.5. After a couple hundred miles on the esc 2, my plantar fasciitis was getting worse and also I started getting some pain on the top of my foot. I believe the pain was from the upper of the shoe. After a hundred miles or so, the upper gets extremely stiff, and when you run, the top of your foot is constantly being pressed against the stuff upper with every step you take, no matter how much you loosen up the shoe. I'm not sure why my plantar fasciitis was getting worse though. Right when I switched back to the esc 1.5 the top of foot pain went away immediately, because the upper on that one is nice and stretchy and flexible, and hugs your foot. My PF is also better now. Luckily the foot pain didn't get to the point where I had to stop running, it just went away on its own. The esc 2 also feels much more clunky than the 1.5. I don't know what the thought process was in making this shoe but it is trash. Wait for the 2.5 or 3 and let's hope it's much more similar to the 1.5. Until then I'm stocking up on the 1.5 before it's gone for good

I had the esclante 1.0 and 1.5. I used to brag up and down about the shoe until I got the 2.0.
This shoe has made my runs so frustrating because the pain it has caused me. I can't run in this shoe any longer and unfortunately will be looking to another shoe as I thought this was going to be my forever go to.

I have been running in Altra shoes for several years. I was more than happy with Escalante 1.0 and love the 1.5. I'm sorry to say that I hate the 2.0. They feel completely different on my feet and I will not run in them anymore. I recently bought a pair of 1.5's from another vendor. I hope that Altra brings back to the 1.5's or I'll be looking for a new shoe.

I love Altra and have many pairs. I've worn out two Escalante 1.0's and two 1.5's. The 1.0's were sloppy-soft and the 1.5's had much-improved stability. Bought the 2.0, looking forward to even more improvements. Nope. These had to go back and I ordered another 1.5. They LOOK similar. But the fit is hugely different. The 2.0 has low toebox volume, the midfoot is MUCH narrower, and the heel is loose. I never have heel slippage in shoes, but I did with this. I felt like I needed to go up a size, but they're plenty long. I just felt like my poor foot was being squeezed to death in there. First thing I did was buy two more 1.5's to get me by until there is a (hopefully improved) 2.5 or 3.0 version. Bring back a wider sole at the midfoot and please return the toebox volume!

Far too heavy, I sent mine back was not worth the money, coming from someone who has had 9 pairs of either Escalante 1 or 1.5. I put in approximately 5,400 miles in Altra Escalante's before having to switch, now that is just a shame. The shoe is heavy stiff and firm. Just not the same shoe. Don't understand this move by altra when they had a perfect niche in their line up with the escalante. I run mostly in the Saucony Kinvara and Escalante racer now. Would quickly go back to Altra if they fixed this shoe (returned back to normal).

There are two problems with this shoe;
1. The width is actually pretty narrow of this shoe. Don't buy it thinking it is wide for the midfoot/forefoot. The only wide thing here is the toebox which is good, but the width of the rest of the shoe defeats the purpose.
2. The knit is way to stretchy! When you do tight fast corners your foot will stretch over the edge of the sole making it easy to twist your ankle.
Would, however, like the shoe if they fixed these problems.

Width and length of the shoe are fine, but the height of the upper is shallow to say the least. The upper presses down firmly on the toes resulting in a very uncomfortable fit. Given its knit upper, I was hoping it would loosen up after a few runs, but unfortunately that was not the case with these shoes. Quite disappointing as this was Altra's best shoe, but now it seems to only be designed for people with very slim feet.

If you have even a slightly wide foot, this shoe is going to be uncomfortable for you. The width is fine, but the height of the upper is not. It pushes down on your toes and does not seem to stretch out. Very disappointed as this has been my favorite Altra model and now I have no way to use it. Should have listened to reviews online complaining about this same issue, but I took a risk and found it they were right.
