These were “meh” at best. Merrell has started changing their designs and he heel hold is terrible as is the overall fit of the shoes. They look great, but they just kinda suck. Moved over to using Vasque and haven’t looked back!

The heel hold is awful in these even using Heel lock lacing.

Way too much heel slip, but the midfoot area felt snugger than it should have.

Great hiking shoe, comfortable and stylish. I forgot my trail running shoes one day and used these instead - no issues.

Wasn't sure how these would fit as I have a wide foot (I try to get E width). These are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own!

These are probably the best shoe I've ever worn. The first time I put them on was a pleasure. Good looking. Great support. These are my fourth pair of shoes from Merrell. I have always been impressed.

What I love most about all the Merrell shoes and boots I've purchased is that they are immediately wearable. No need to break them in ...get moving and enjoy

There were some critical reviews of these shoes which made me hesitant to order. Specifically, several comments about the shoes being narrow for wider feet. Thankfully though I've not experience any of the issues others have stated. I found the shoes comfortable and plenty wide. I purchased these to replace an old pair of hiking boots and some more hardy cold weather shoes. It is taking awhile getting used to walking in these as they are indeed hiking shoes which make them less comfortable if you're walking around on hard surfaces. But with that said they are comfy enough that it's not a big deal overall.

My first pair of Merrells was a high top version which were great for long hikes, but I wanted something that I didn't need to wear long socks with for shorter weekend trips. These fit the bill so far. I think they will get even more comfortable once I have put some more miles on them. They have excellent grip and feel very durable. If I need more hiking boots, I'll be back to Merrell.

The style of this shoe attracted my attention. I had to have a pair. They are super comfortable. I'll wear them a lot this fall while walking trails.

I picked up a pair of these Zions when I first seen they were coming out. For me they were comfortable right out of the box. The textile feeling of the material itself gives you the impression that they'll be pretty abrasion resistant. Some days I'm on my feet for 10+ hours and so far with these my feet have not yet ached. The tread on the bottom is quite sticky, I can't speak for longevity yet but they are providing great traction so far. I actually have been enjoying this shoe so much I bought a second pair. The only complaint I have is the colors are deceptive. My guess is when they took the pictures of the shoe for the website the lighting that was used lead me to believe that the shoes were slightly lighter in color. When both pairs of these shoes arrived they were way darker than the photo lead me to believe.

Not as comfortable as other Merrells I've owned, but then again, these are the first ordered online. I like that I don't have to double tie the strings like my favorite/current pair, and they seem to be well-built.

Good shoe. Ordered in "Brown" but brown in real life was far darker than it appeared online. Didn't mind, still good looking and practical shoe.

I love Merrell shoes. It's pretty much all I wear. I've never had a bad pair of Merrells and the customer service is outstanding. The Zion is no acception. Very short break in period. These are sturdy, stylish, and most of all comfortable. I would definitely recommend.

Unfortunately they're difficult to keep clean and some of the stitching has already come out (I've had them floor 2 weeks). That said, they're pretty comfortable and very sleek looking!

I really would like to give the Zion 5 stars because it really is a special shoe, but there are a few things holding back from being one of the best on the market. There is nothing in this weight class that offers this sort of durability. They are unbelievably light, but still hold up to rocks and roots without tearing or coming apart. The sole is one of my overall favorites. The lugs bite and hold in mud, gravel, and scree. Few, if any, other shoes can match their holding power on step descents. The fit is snug, especially at first, but the leather upper wears in an molds to your foot well. Unlike a fabric upper they become more comfortable after a few miles, and flex with your foot naturally. All this said I have two issues that keep this from being the best fast hiker on the market. The first is that there is too much heel slip. The heel cup is simply too wide and too shallow. My wife has these as well and has the same issue. This can be mostly alleviated with the correct tying technique, but that also makes them an bit of a pain to take on and off. The second issue is that they simply need more cushioning. The sole is stiff, as it needs to be to prevent stone bruises, but the cushioning is only appropriate for a trail runner with a flexible sole. The stiffer sole and trail runner like midsole result in too much shock being transferred to the foot. I love hiking with them, but I wouldn't trust them for more than 15 miles a day on flat land, or more than 8 on steep technical terrain. They are 90% the way towards being the best fast hiker on the market, so I do highly recommend them overall, and hope Merrell continues the Zion line and tries to achieve that last 10%
