I had the opportunity to test the Sabre AR for a couple months last winter and spring. Like all things Arc'teryx the fit was incredibly dialed, and provided maximum range of motion and functionality with a loose yet not too baggy fit. The length was perfect for those who ski tour or ride the resort, yet enjoy a more progressive style in their outerwear that doesn't skimp on performance.
The jacket handled heavy spring snowstorms with ease, and my friends commented on how dry I was during those days. Additionally, the brushed flannel liner offered some warmth, but wasn't overly hot. Though on days when the temperature was around freezing I often didn't need another layer on my ski tours.

This jacket is totally awesome. It feels like you have nothing on you, still you are entirely protected from the cold wind. Absolutely a must for big mountain skiing and backcountry.

I have skied in this jacket for two years and it has performed very well on wet days, powder, warm days and cool. Waterproofing is excellent and it is very comfortable. The side vents are a great feature on warm days. For me, there are a few things that could be different (better?). The snaps on the powder skirt are difficult to do up - usually, unless it's a powder day, I don't bother. The only place to put a ski pass is either in one of the side slit pockets (more on that later) or on the zip pocket on the arm, where it always seems to escape and rattle around in the wind. The zip on that pocket can only be managed with two hands, meaning stopping when the pass, inevitably, escapes. Also, a loop inside either the sleeve pocket or one of the slit pockets would make for a better place to attach a pass. As it is, a pass needs to be attached to the zip loop. The side slit pockets are large and, although they hold lots and are waterproof, the zips are well to the side, making them hard to reach on a chairlift, or otherwise. I have an old "Westcomb" jacket that has two sets of pockets, one with the zips right in front, the other with zips to the side and this jacket might benefit from a similar layout. It may be that in the interests of water resistance, there is only one set of pockets, making the zips hard to manage with one hand. For me at least, it is definitely a two hand process. Overall though, it is a great jacket. With a base layer, a mid layer the jacket keeps me warm, even on pretty cold days. The hood goes up and down easily over a helmet and provides great protection in snow or wind. I guess any design involves some compromise... my preference would be for somewhat different compromises.

I've been skiing with this jacket 9 times so far and am quite happy with the performance, however it's the minor details which are lacking to make this a "GREAT" jacket. First, inside phone pocket is too small. My iphone 11pro in a otterbox commuter case is difficult to put in and out. Would love to see a larger pocket in future models. Second, a small wrist pocket is something i have ALWAYS appreciated in jackets. It's easier to move your hand/wrist to the RFID reader, than your shoulder. Especially if the reader is on the opposite shoulder.

After 15+ years finally had to retire my first ArcTeryx jacket, and replaced with the Sabre AR. I am 5'10" with a 44" chest, 36 waist and 33 sleeve, pretty average size for a 52 year old guy. My old jacket was size L with a 34 sleeve which was a little long but manageable. For some reason the company has gone to a 35 sleeve, which literally hangs well below my fingertips with the velcro undone. WAY TOO LONG! I tried on a size M with 34" sleeve and it was too tight through the shoulders and mid-section, so I had to stick with the large. It's impossible to have the sleeves shortened by a tailor without compromising the integrity of the jacket, so I'm just going to have to deal with all the extra material. Arc Teryx should go back to a 34 sleeve on their large jackets, or offer short, regular and long options, like they do with certain models of their pants.

Bought a week ago, sleeves run slightly long and jacket as a whole slightly large. 5'9 and I fit a small. Jacket has too much space inside if you don't want to wear a down layer underneath. (you need a thick layer underneath to make it not feel loose). Besides fitting jacket is very good.

It ticks all the boxes but it would be nice to have at least one chest pocket for small items (e.g. thermometer or small ruler)

I bought this jacket to replace another goretex. I wore it skiing in winter weather conditions and blue bird days. Kept me warm and dry when snowing at 20 deg and windy. Layering is a must to keep you warm. I would of given 5 stars if it had at lest one chest pocket to keep a cellphone out of harms way. Two chest pockets would be even better. The product is extremely well made.

This is a seriously stylish jacket with experts craftsmanship. Looks just as good as a ski shell with my Proton LT as it does around town in rainy Vancouver over a suit. However I caution you for more serious outdoor activity especially when very wet the jacket is not completely waterproof. Water will start to come thru the front zipper after about an hour of heavy rain so be cognizant of that. It is however totally windproof tested at the top of Sunshine in very strong wind.

Bought this jacket less than a year ago, and overall I love it. However one of the side pocket zippers broke, and it requires it to be shipped back (at my expense) for it to be evaluated and (hopefully) fixed.

Ridiculously overpriced and under insulated. The advertisement shows the person wearing a liner under the jacket giving the appearance that it is warmer and heavier lined. Since when is cotton flannel a performance technical fabric
