To be honest, throughout the years I have always glanced at Arcteryx products but never have bought one because of the price point. But this year, as an avid backcountry and resort skier, my previous gear wasn't holding up to the test. I was getting wet through my shell, and was becoming cold only half way through the day. So, after lots of research and lots of time surfing the internet to find the best jacket for me, I finally landed on the Arcteryx Sabre AR, and let me tell you that I could not be happier. I have spent countless days in this slightly insulated shell and have never had a problem with being wet, cold, or sweaty. Obviously when hiking or touring you are going to get hot, but I have never gotten damp and uncomfortable because of it. Also, I have spent many days skiing through tight trees and shrubs, and unlike other products that I have used, there are no fabric scratches or anything after charging throught branches and needles.Even though the prices of these jackets are hard to justify, myself and everybody that I know who owns an arcteryx jacket will never go back. And for the people who are looking for an amazing jacket that is both waterproof, durable, and comfortable who have been burned by other products in the past, this jacket is for you.

I've never worn shells but this year I've moved my summer and winter kit to Arc'teryx. They're a Canadian company, invested in Gore-Tex and their quality is second to none. I'm 181 cm, 68 kg and slim build. I fit quite nicely into their medium size. I've tested my layering set-up and the jacket is still a comfortable fit even at the frigid cold set-up. The Sabre AR jacket is going to be a great piece of gear. I appreciate the sleeve length and the quality of the Velcro fasteners. Love the storm hood flexibility. I was intrigued by the Slide'n Lock connecting system. Used to zipper systems with my motorcycle gear. Easy to detach for nature breaks. I thought the smaller rivet system would be hard to manage especially with cold fingers. But once you know where the pieces are it is surprisingly easy. Thumbs-up! Pockets are what I expect in a ski jacket although I may miss the outside chest pocket for quick access to a map and lock. Lastly, in the 24K colour , this is a stunningly great looking jacket!

I recently purchased the Sabre AR Jacket. From the materials to the fit, this jacket is the best I have ever had. I even purchased the pants after to complete the look!

This jacket is perfect for skiing or snowboarding. The jacket is an amazing fit especially for someone with broad shoulders. My favorite part is still how warm it keeps you even though it may feel thin. I love all arcteryx stuff but especially this one. It's a must have!

This jacket is amazing. It's very light, functional and good-looking. Mine is renegade color. Many people asked me about the color of this jacket when I was riding in whistler.
I also own the sabre pants. This jacket also can combo with the pants to prevent the snow from your pants. It is really amazing.

If you're buying this jacket I don't have to speak to it's best-in-class quality, or functional placement of simple features, but here are the two things that I was unsure about while shopping:
I found the fit a bit big. I sit between a Large and XL, chose the XL and wish I had stuck with the large.
I'm a very warm guy, and the "flannel like" lining almost scared me away. The lining however is better described as "mirco-flannel." It's one-thread-thick and just creates a comfortable on-skin feeling rather than providing true insulation. This jacket felt just right great up to 30F on the protected skin track, but really shined in the wind and snow higher up on the exposed ridges.

I bought the sabre ar to serve as my backcountry/resort ski shell as well as an all-around weather shell for school in Wisconsin. In the short time I've used it I've fallen in love - even with the larger baggy fit. The flannel liner is perfect, it makes it just warm enough to throw over a hoodie or sweater when it is wet but not too cold out. Planning on using it with my Proton LT for skiing later this month in California and Utah.

This jacket is unmatched in quality, durability, and resistance. Those who say it isn't insulated enough probably don't belong in the back-country to begin. This outer layer (LAYER) combined with a base layer, and fleece mid layer lasted me the whole day in the big-mountain. No penetration, and teamed up with a lesser- arc'teryx pant than the Sabre pant I had no problems even after I made my final run.

Wonderful - not too thin or thick, flannel lining is big plus without adding unneeded bulk.. I'm 6'2" and an athletic 218#'s - Large would be a good fit for around the city, but since this is for resort & backcountry skiing I went for the XL so I have plenty of room for layering.

This is a great jacket. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs and I ordered a medium because that's my size for all of Arcteryx. I was initially struck by the jacket's larger fit, as it's quite baggy through the torso and arms.
However, while skiing with it, I have yet to even notice my jacket. That's how you know it's a good piece of gear--you don't even notice it.
It's a super burly, yet lightweight jacket, and with the hood up, it's basically impenetrable to weather. At this point, I can't imagine skiing without it.

After a few snowboard trips when my old jacket didn't stand up to the conditions (blizzard snow for hours etc) and became heavy as it has soaked up alot of moisture I decided it was time to upgrade. I wanted something that I knew would keep me protected from the elements all day, and this jacket is perfect, it is a beast of a jacket, feels strong and robust, plenty of pockets for storage. The fit is generous, it allows layering, I can wear my atom AR underneath on very cold day and there is space for the hoods, but also just worn with a base layer and thin fleece it still fits well. Good length in the body and sleeves to cover gloves.
Overall if you current jacket has let you down and you want something that wont, get this.

I really love this jacket. It's one of the highest performing pieces of ski equipment I have. It fits right, keeps me just warm enough and is very breathable. I can't recommend it highly enough.
