Like other reviews that I see posted for these shoes, the velcro strap is too small. My son does not have large feet so I thought they'd still fit, but they don't. There's something wrong with the design of this shoe. A simple lengthening of the velcro strap would solve the problem. The shoe fits otherwise. We are returning them as they are useless if you cannot secure the velcro.

We love Nike Star Runners. I've been using them on my boys (ages 4, 7, and 8 now) for the last 3 years. They last and hold up awesome. The 8 year old has just started to size out of them (the velcro is no longer long enough) but they are still our go to for our other boys. For the 8 year old we switched to UA shoes to compensate for the velcro length. The design changed slightly this year but in all it seems like we have the same quality shoes and I am pleased with them. They hold up great for the wear and tear of young boys. They are great.

The shoe was tight and the strap was to short. The strap would come undone once my 6yo would start walking.

There is definitely something wrong with this shoe's design. The shoe fit my son's foot fine, but the velcro strap at the top would barely go across. He is a normal sized 9 year old boy. The shoe just isn't wearable.

Little under sized

I buy two little boys shoes a pair of gym shoes every three months. I go between Nike and New Balance. The Star runner series is garbage. The strap constantly pulls away from the shoe and there is no ankle support. My four year old is constantly stopping to re attach the strap and or he will run out one of his shoes. We're extremely disappointed in this series.

The Velcro straps are too short to close properly. Absolutely awful!!

For whatever reason the right shoe velcro strap would not stay closed and continually opened which made the kiddo crazy. Not sure why since the left one was fine and we had even purchased the same sneaker in another color and had no issues. It just seems that strap is too short for the sneaker.

The shoe fits great, but something is wrong with the velcro design, which is the only closure on the shoe. The strap is just long enough to touch the other side of the velcro. As soon as my son starts walking, the velcro releases. He does not have wide feet, I truly believe the strap is just too short. It's too bad because he cannot wear these, but the style and fit is really nice otherwise.

The velcro does not stay closed. Had to return.

The velcro strap is way too short - it doesn't even stay attached and therefore the shoes fall off when running/playing. We love Nike shoes for our kids but these totally missed the mark and are unfortunately unwearable. We should have listened to the feedback from other reviewers!

These are a great tennis shoe. I only changed them because my kid grew out of them. We bought the same again just in blue this time.

My son loves these shoes and they have held up over the months he has worn them. His feet are growing larger faster than the shoes have worn out. He sometimes wears regular or wide fit shoes, depending upon the shoe. For this shoe, the regular/medium fit was just fine for him.

My son loved these. He likes the color, I like the fit and support! Win win.

My son loves these. They're a bit too big, but as he tells me, he'll grow into them. He likes how the toe flexes. He feels they propel him forward in his running. Great shoe. Velco makes it easy to secure while he's still getting used to tying laces that STAY tied.

Not sure why people rate these so poorly, but my son wears these since he was in size C10, now he is onto Y1. We have them in three colors every time as well, so that's a lot of pairs to go through and love. My son wears them hard too. No way to resell them or pass them to someone else afterward. He loves them that much! Velcro is not short for us, so I can't speak on that at all. My son is pretty high in percentile for height and weight, but he is skinny. His foot is not wide, so again, these never come undone. I am about to get another pair. Love that Zappos sometimes gives little discounts on certain sizes. They should do that more often. lol

Like others stated the Velcro strap does fall somewhat short but I have not found it to be an issue.

My son loves them. It might be the fluorescent green swoosh but he says they are light and easy to run in in comparison to the stride rites he had previously.

I love the look and the color, however the strap is too short and my son has chunky feet's and feels uncomfortable.

These fit my son's feet well and are always comfortable on him. I've tried going with shoes that don't have a velcro strap but they tend to get flung off his feet when he's running or kicking balls.

I bought two pairs of these - one pair for our 8 yr old and one for our 4 year old and couldn't be happier. The fit is great and they're so easy to get on and off. They look like a real lace up shoe but there are no laces to tie and then there's a simple velcro strap across the instep. Really easy. I see a lot of reviews claiming the velcro strap is too short. Nike obviously addressed this problem because we did not experience that at all. And our kids have normal size and width feet. And the kids love these as much as we do.
