I have been wearing the 990 for many years. I wear the Made in USA 990 with Made in USA Socks and Made in USA Insoles. I can walk over 2000 miles per year. The only issue is they wear out and I have to get another pair. I typically walk on pavement so I need the shock absorption and since I want to walk every day stability helps to prevent any misstep or injury. This line of shoes was recommended to me by New Balance several years ago and they do make a difference.

These are walking shoes and I've been walking 5-7 miles a day.
I'm 73 years old and these are as comfortable as anything I've walked in!

Great shoes, more stable for my over pronating feet than the 880's they replaced. Love that New Balance actually makes widths, so important for my duck feet! Don't know about the arch support, I use orthotic inserts.
My only complaint is lack of color in the styles they offer.

My new 990's fit and feel great. They give my surgically altered feet relief when I walk and with the lower heel of a walking shoe I am not at as great a risk for getting off balance, which is a concern for me at my age. The shoes appear to be well made and they look good, too.

I purchased these in mid-May and by the end of August the soles had lost much of the support in one shoe and started to hurt my feet. There's a hole in the top of one shoe that seems to be simply from poor construction. I'm not a runner but I walk a lot, and I can usually expect a pair of NB to last at least a year. This pair had lost usable support and was falling apart in three months. Given that I wear a 4E it's always a challenge to find shoes. I once could rely on NB, but even their better quality shoes like these 990s are poor. I've never had a pair wear out so quickly.

Made in USA with EU materials. I have problems with my feet and I love these shoes. Yes they cost a little more but that is because US and EU employees earn more and have better benefits. I have 3 pair and love them. My wife and I both love New Balance.

I had a bit of a fiasco finding the right shoe. It took many, many conversations to get to it. My old shoe was a 1226...discontinued. The replacement 1260 was discontinued. The 860 suggestion was too soft. Apparently running shoes in general have shifted softer. The 1540 was a bit too stiff. But, the 990 is JUST RIGHT! That said, it too WAY too long to figure all this out. I'd suggest New balance improve its shoe suggestion capabilities.
All that said, super happy with the 990...as long as they don't discontinue it !

Best shoe for the job. Made in the USA. I bought the shoes but they run a little bit big and ended up returning them. However, stopped by the New Balance store and picked up the same on the right size. Thanks!

Have ordered New Balance shoes for years. These were very inferior to what I have worn in the past. The removable insole had what appeared to be wear spots at the toe area. One shoe felt like my sock was all loose inside. I removed the insole and found lumps and a hard piece of what appeared to be plastic sticking up in the toe area. Needless to say I returned them.

I use these for walking, work and everyday activities, so far I prefer the fit and feel of the V4 (previous model) to these V5's, the cut is different, in fact these are the noisiest sneaks when walking I have ever owned. I tried the 10-1/2 and it was snug, exchanged for a size 11 and they are huge, almost liek they aere intended for a six toed set of feet.
