Greetings! I am an avid hiker and long time Merrell customer! This is the first time I tried the Ontario mid style. Just received them and they fit absolutely great! I always buy the super feet insoles just for extra arch support for all my hiking and walking shoes. I cannot wait to try them on the trails very soon! Walked all around the house and up/down stairs and they are quite light and have awesome grip. I changed out the turquoise laces for the brown ones but will keep the turquoise as a back up. I ordered a size 10 which is my usual size for walking and hiking shoes. They really fit nicely and are attractive hiking boots! Can't wait to use them on the trails next weekend! :)

Just received these today, so I haven't had a chance yet to take them out for a hike, but they are exactly what I'd hoped they'd be (sneaker-like fit, waterproof, lightweight, OK for the office). They come with an extra pair of brown laces, which I prefer over the turquoise laces. I first tried Timberland Mt. Maddsens, but they were too wide for me. If you have narrow feet, these should be a great fit. Good arch support, too. They are expensive, but I figure it's better than dealing with lower back and hip pain from sliding around in your shoe.

I went to Alaska for 2 weeks in August 2019. The Ontario boot was my best friend. It climbed, it jumped, it walked through rivers, it hiked, it ran, they were trampled on by sled dogs & puppies, and even walked on pavement a few times... never disappointing me. I never wore my sneakers because the Ontario boot is one of the most comfortable shoes I own. My feet are very sensitive and always hurt after walking a few hours, but not in this boot. So comfortable that I also wore them on the plane trip home. I was sad to return to civilization and not be able to wear them all day everyday. You won't be disappointed!

They fit really well and seem to form to my feet already. The minute I put them on, the soles gripped my linoleum floors like suctions! Can't wait to put them to use!

I got these the week I did the infamous Angels Landing hike in the RAIN. They were so comfortable I didn't even need time to break them in! And even though it was very wet, my feet stayed dry and the shoes gripped beautifully, not once did I slip or slide. AND while we were all scrambling along cliffs on the trail and clinging to the chain-handholds for dear life, I got multiple compliments on my shoes from strangers. I love them.

I needed a new pair of hiking boots for my upcoming trip to Yosemite with my daughter. I ordered 8 different styles and brands before decided on these Merrell Ontario's. I have issues with bunions and have a difficult time finding a boot that is comfortable. So far they have not let me down. We have hiked over 30 miles in the past 4 days through rain, snow, sleet, mud and flooded trails. My feet stayed dry and comfortable.

This boot is very comfortable, in fact I put them on and went on a 21 mile hike the first time wearing them. It poured the rain for 11 miles of that and waterproof boots can only do some much for so long. They did their job when crossing small streams and wet spots before the storms hit though! They dried out quickly stuffed with newspaper and do not have a foul smell. I look forward to many more comfortable miles in these boots!

Went to Iceland and was looking for some waterproof boots that would withstand the long hikes, rough terrain, and be waterproof all while still looking fashionable. Can't tell you enough how much these were exactly what I wanted!!! Super comfortable, dried almost instantly on the outside when they got wet and got many compliments. I was told to size up but they were actually too large so I went with my typical size and it was perfect!

Good-looking boots - which is not something you can say about most hiking boots. Lightweight, comfortable and sturdy. Looking forward to testing these out in all seasons

I own several pairs of hiking shoes, but was looking for a lightweight, waterproof and comfortable pair to take on an upcoming trip to Alaska. Right out of the box; I knew these would be perfect. They are extremely comfortable without that 'heavy hiking boot' feeling of so many hikers. Their versatility to transition from hiking shoe to casual 'street' shoe make these ideal for travel when packing may be limited. Aside from the travel benefits; these will be sure to be my favorite trekking shoe all year long. I can't wait for the low top version in waterproof! Great job, Merrell.

I hike a lot, but when I hike with my kids I'm usually going less than 6 miles. I don't need a big beefy shoe. The Ontarios have been PERFECT for all the hiking I do with them, and look super cool. I love that they have the classic look of a full leather traditional hiking shoe, but are actually surprisingly light weight! I am surprised how much I have been wearing this shoe around town too. It's a good one!

Right out of the box-the test was on-and here's the results:
fits like a glove, soft, flexible, So comfortable!
Conditions: snow, ice,wet, cold, wind-
Results:
warm, waterproof, no issues on snow covered ice (not so good on black ice-but what is!).
My current Merrill hiking boots have lasted 10 years(same sole) and I expected to break these new boots in and get flexibility in a few weeks-that was the biggest surprise. No issues. I also didn't think the soles would be as great as my older ones-better!
Could not be more pleased!

Amazing shoe, I have been a loyal purchaser of Merrell shoes for hiking over the past 10 years and this shoe is no exception. Perfectly comfortable on the first 5 mile hike out of the box through mud, snow, and water. My feet are so happy with these boots, and they are most definitely some of the beat looking pairs I've owned from a style perspectivez High quality, function, and comfort!

This is a gorgeous boot which I bought for walking when the ground is cold and wet. Perfect in every way though in fit I had to exchange for larger size to wear two pair of socks. Extremely easy to wear, comfortable in first wearing, and look so good on even this old lady's feet.

I am so happy with these boots. They were super comfortable right out of the box with nice soft leather. I took them right on a trip to Chicago and they kept my feet dry in both the rain and snow. They are cushioned well and support my feet and arches well. As with all Merrel's, I recommend buying a half size larger than you would usually (this was expected for me).

I was looking for a waterproof boot that wouldn't look too hiking boot-ish when I'm running errands in the city, but would also be functional for hikes. Very happy with this purchase! The foot bed is super comfy and so far they have held up to rain (and snow). I bought my normal shoe size and they fit as expected. The only minor issue has been that the toe area curves inward a bit, so my pinky toes start to feel pinched after a few hours.

Lightweight and comfortable, these boots made it through a day of zip lining and hiking. Walking over varied terrain, climbing platforms, and picking a pathway on rocks and slippery mud let me know I picked the right boots. I never had a worry about slipping they grip and kept me upright and my feet stayed dry. I highly recommend!

I love this boot, so glad I purchased it. I needed a boot I could take on the trail but still wear around town. Bonus it is comfortable too. Recommend 100%

At first glance, it seems like the only thing this boot has is a fashionable hiker look to it. But after testing it out on a variety of terrain, I've realized there's much more to this shoe than meets the eye.
I've always enjoyed vibram's outsoles but the mega grip has shocked me time and time again. I could be walking on the trail or on asphalt on the way to an appointment and if I slide my foot side to side, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the mega grip holds up and keeps my foot in place.
I've worn this shoe on a packed down snowy trail (was not very prepared but wanted to get out and about anyways!) and while the top of the shoe did get wet from the snow, my socks did not get wet. It's not a winter shoe but it does hold out water pretty well.
The boot is also comfortable - if you're planning on wearing them all day and are walking/standing a lot, I would suggest wearing higher and more cushion-y socks. Helps when your pant legs ride up so the back of the shoe doesn't rub on skin.

I love everything about these shoes. Your feet will have constant energy, and stay dry especially due to the air cushion. The lining is the same as the Moab shoes. Merrell knows how to spoil my feet. A great shoe to look dressed up in the winter, fall, and spring; or summer depending on where you live.

I'm currently on my second pair of these boots because I loved my first pair so much. I am a wildlife technician so I need a comfortable boot that I don't mind wearing all day 7 days a week and it's a bonus that they are also really light. While working in Colorado these boots served me well (hence the second pair) but since I've been working in southern New Mexico I have had my fair share of spines and splinters that end up poking all the way through the bottom of my shoe into my foot from dead/decaying cactus or mesquite branches that are very good at hiding. I tend to do a lot of off trail hiking for work, so this probably wouldn't be a problem for most but be careful out there if you live in the desert or do a lot of hiking near cactus!

This boot is very light weight and comfortable, like wearing slippers. But I only gave 4 stars because the insole is like a piece of paper. I had to spend more $ to replace them.

I was reticent to order boots online because I like to try them in the store, walk around and up an incline to make a good decision. However, I needed to replace my last pair of Merrells which were so excellent I am now forever a Merrell fan and took a chance. I'd worn my others out with 40 miles of hiking every week through the forests and coasts of the PNW. They were sturdy Im hard on boots. I'm glad I took the chance with this order
First I loved the color, I choose Lichen its a muted sort of sage green with the contrasting blue laces they look cool. These were surprisingly roomy in the toe area, meaning in the winter I can wear thick socks. My last pair were waterproof but also had mesh areas which meant they were more breathable. I see the big difference now between the Moab and the Ontario, The Ontario is going to keep your feet both warm and dry but I think it is a better boot for colder temperatures.
My first hike, a 5 mile pretty much uphill climb was the test and these performed beautifully It was as if I'd worn them and broken them in, no discomfort The only part that gave me pause is the lack of ventilation, it was a hot day and my feet did get hot and sweaty but then I'm used to a different Merrell designed with a lot of ventilation for summer hiking.
I will use these all winter and enjoy dry feet. for really hot days I'll wear the vented boots. I'm glad I purchased them I liked the ankle support and how solid the boots felt. I believe they are true to size if anything slightly bigger than I expected which was perfect
