I am 67 years old and needed a black shoe I can walk in all day and nice enough to wear ou at night. These are perfect.

As with Merrell shoes I have bought in the past, they feel great when I put them on. I am looking forward to wearing them on an upcoming trip. Love the colors.

These shoes were perfect right out of the box! I was looking for a supportive shoe that was comfortable but not too hot for walking/hiking in the summer - these shoes are great looking and super comfortable!!

Great shoe, but obviously not even pretending to be water proof with mesh styling. Light on the trail, so bonus points there.

The shoes are true fit to size, comfortable and well constructed. Waterproof is a bit of a misnomer, these shoes are water friendly, made with sole drainage, not water proof and will not keep your feet dry.

Let me clear up the confusion of what these shoes are actually called. Per Merrell's website, these shoes are called Waterpro Maipo 2. They are in no way, per Merrell's website, waterproof shoes. They are not called "Waterproof Maipo 2" either. They are however "water friendly" in that they are made of quick drying materials. I have not tested out this feature but could see this being possible because of the loosely woven material uppers. These shoes have a sturdy bottom that I think would be good for walking over small rocks and pebbles. You can feel the ground enough to retain a sense of balance. I could see the soles being "grippy" in a creekbed as well. With that said, I wouldn't walk anywhere in wet shoes for very far-blisters. But I do intend to wear these kayaking. They would be great for that purpose. I wouldn't recommend them for long distance hiking because of the lack of support on the top of the shoe. For a short walk on flat ground they would be fine. The shoes don't have much in the way of arch support which is fine for my foot. You could put in your own insole if necessary though the insole provided is supposed to "drain well." The toe box is wider and accommodates my bunions. My foot is narrow at the heal with a long big toe and very short angled remaining toes, for reference. There isn't much padding in the forefoot area but plenty in the heel. I feel like the shoe fits true to size with plenty of room left in the front so that my big toe does not hit the synthetic toe bumper. Overall, the shoes are comfortable. I am not sure about the price point for a pair of water shoes but I am wearing these around the house as a second pair of shoes and as stated above, will wear them when I kayak. I have had reasonably good luck with this brand so far but I beat the heck out of my shoes and they don't last long.
