This shoe is the perfect combination of a running shoe and an approach shoe. It is really comfortable to run in but secure and confidence inspiring when the terrain gets more technical. The gaitor is nice and keeps the debris out, good to have clean feet at the end of the day. Good call not using a wpb membrane as the shoes stay much cooler and breathes better. These shoes are simply awesome. Good job s/lab!

An early review having now done one boggy 12k mountain run and another 26km snow mountain run in Wales. Comfort is great as usual if you are a Salomon user. Grip is good for the shoe type and on both runs so far my feet have been warm and almost dry which is unheard of in Welsh winter conditions. The top button is a good addition making the zip stay put. The sizing is as usual for me a half size bigger apart for my Ultra Pro's which are true to size. I am a general size 9 and have these Alpine XA 2 in a 44. I would give a 5 star but will need time to confirm their durability due to the high cost

I have run, walked and climbed in these and am sad to say goodbye :0( But, I quickly got over the pain and bought a new pair! :0) I live and work in the Scottish Highlands as a Mountain Guide and have used these a lot for scrambling on the Cuillin Ridge, Skye. They offer superb protection, so comfortable, lightweight for long days and look great. I get a lot of complements about them. Its great having the comfort of a trail shoe wrapped up in the sturdiness of a boot, its the perfect cross-over footwear for my needs. My only 2 negatives are that they are not as waterproof as expected. I wear Goretex socks with them on bad/wet days and the other issues is the rubber compound on the sole has worm out quicker than expected. Having said that, if it was a harder rubber they probably wouldn't be as grippy on rock. Overall, a fantastic hybrid trail running boot that I would buy again and again. Well done Salomon.

Ich liebe diesen Schuh, allerdings nicht f?r den Einsatzzweck, f?r den er eigentlich gemacht ist (Trail Running), deshalb gebe ich nur 4 Sterne. Es ist ein toller Wanderschuh f?r Temperaturen unter 0 Grad . Ich nehme ihn jedes Mal mit nach Nepal und nutzen ihn ab 4000m. Die F?sse bleiben immer trocken - selbst in tiefem schmelzendem Schnee - und warm. Durch seine starke D?mpfung (zumindest aus meiner Sicht als natural running Fanatikerin) ist er perfekt geeignet f?r besonders lange Wanderungen. Der Grip ist sehr gut. Ich werde diesen Schuh auch mit auf meine Mera Peak "Expedition) nehmen und jeden Tag bis auf den Summit Day damit trekken. Zum Thema Trail RUNNING: daf?r ist er leider gar nicht geeignet. Viel zu weich, viel zu schwer. Ich bin mit diesem Schuh 45 Sekunden pro Kilometer (!) langsamer als mit meinem normalen (schnellen) Laufschuh einer anderen Marke. Dazu bekomme ich von der D?mpfung Achillessehnen. und Wadenprobleme. Ich muss um jeden Abdruck k?mpfen, der in der Sohle verpufft, und ?berlaste dadurch Sehne und Muskeln. Man sp?rt durch die starke D?mpfung den Boden zu wenig, um damit gut und technisch sauber laufen zu k?nnen.

Points positifs : Trs confortable. La premire version comprimait un peu trop le milieu pied dans sa "largeur", ce qui n'est plus du tout le cas avec cette seconde version. Chaussure relativement lgre au vu de la gutre intgre et de sa fonction. Le drop de 6 mm ne gne pas pour courir avec une foule mdio-pied. La chaussure a un bon amorti et est tout de mme trs ractive. Chaussures testes en conditions relles en marchant et courant plusieurs heures dans la neige en haute altitude (jusqu' 4500 mtres, mais en conditions estivales). Les pieds sont rests au sec, mme en passant accidentellement dans de grosses flaques. Je n'ai par ailleurs jamais eu froid aux pieds mme avec des tempratures comprises entre -5C et -10C. Pas encore accumul beaucoup de kilomtres avec cette seconde version mais la chaussure semble bien rsistante. Point ngatif (qui justifie la note de 4/5) : Un seul reproche, qui peut cependant tre parfois assez drangeant. Sur la seconde version, une pression a t ajoute sur la partie suprieure de la gutre afin de pouvoir courir avec la fermeture clair ouverte (lorsqu'il fait chaud et que le terrain est sec) afin de laisser le pied respirer davantage. Ceci est a priori bien pratique. Cependant, lors de chaque sortie effectue o la hauteur de neige tait consquente (et que le pied s'enfonait donc plus profondment que le haut de la gutre), la pression se dfait toute seule assez rapidement et ne peut plus tre remise cause de la neige coince l'intrieure. Afin de pouvoir la fermer nouveau, il faut attendre de se retrouver nouveau sur un terrain sans neige et que la neige/glace accumule l'intrieur fonde. Mais entre temps, on continue de courir dans la neige et sans cette pression clipse, la fermeture clair s'ouvre petit petit et la neige finit par rentrer sous la gutre et dans la chaussure. Lors de la conception de la prochaine version, il faudrait soit : 1) crer une pression plus dure qui ne se dfait pas accidentellement 2) revenir au systme de la premire version. Si ce problme de pression est corrig, ce sera une chaussure parfaite ! J'espre que ce commentaire (qui se veut objectif et constructif), sera pris en compte et publi.

The alpine are great at keeping the grit and wet out of your feet and they are really comfy. The zip design on these is really poor however as the tail of the zip comes down over you toes, therefore as your foot flexes your toes come up against the tail of the zip and they are rubbed roar

I love the design and the build is definitely up to a high standard but too tight in the toes for me and traction in snow and slick mud is nonexistent. I found these on sale in size 11 which is what I've used for other S/lab products. It has always been a toss-up between 11 and 11.5 for me though I should have gone with the 11.5 on these. They turned out much tighter in the toes than my other S/lab shoes to the point even a simple test run left me with pain. They arrived for me right as it snowed so I took them out for a test run about some hills and trails in my local park. I was surprised to find that on every step the shoe slid back a bit on anything slick as I went to press off. I lost so much energy return that running was excruciating. Landing on downhills in the snow I'd slid just a bit before lugs finally caught traction. Mind you this was not ice, but fresh snow and in other places a mix of scree and snow. It felt as if there was a smooth slick bottom that just couldn't grab on snow or mud. After some more testing on dry rock (or even just wet rock with no snow and scree), I found them here to have great grip. My sense is they should be amazing for scrambling as long as there isn't too much mud or snow to slicken things up. Unfortunately here in Scotland, there can be a lot of mud around the scrambles. With all this said, take it with a grain of salt, maybe it is just me because everyone else reviewing it here seems to have much better experiences with this shoe. Again, I love the design and really want them to work but I need to try them in 11.5, and also with all the sliding that happened to me in the snow and mud I fear I cannot trust them on a steep muddy descent. However, I really want them to work! I'd try these again in a half size up if I could (but too expensive given I can't return these) and see if things improved with more time in them. Unfortunately, I was dumb -- cut the tags and tried them outdoors -- so don't make that mistake if ordering online.

Habe die Schuhe gekauft, um auch bei winterlichen Bedingungen einen laufbaren und ausreichend warmen Schuh zu haben. Die Kaltfront Ende September brachte die Gelegenheit, den Schuh auf Schneetrails am Stilfser Joch ausgiebig zu testen. Leider bin ich eher unzufrieden, da der Schuh sehr schwer und mit einer unangenehm harten Sohle versehen ein normales Laufen sehr stark behindert, auf der anderen Seite aber auch nicht steigeisentauglich ist. Die Gamasche behindert den Schnmechanismus sehr stark, so dass man in den Schuhen eher schwimmt. Er ist zwar einigermaen warm, aber am Ende des Tages sind die Fe dann doch feucht und klamm. Mit einer normalen Gamasche an einem normalen Schuh htte man weitgehend den gleichen Schutz bei aber erhaltener Laufbarkeit und deutlich niedrigerem Gewicht. Fr mich leider ein Fehlkauf, da der Schuh fr wirklich schwere Bedingungen nicht einsetzbar ist und fr normale Wintertrails die Laufbarkeit zu schlecht ist.
