I wear buffs to protect my face from the sun. This one fits good and does what it's supposed to. As for the cooling properties, I'm not sure until I wear it a few more times.

I have several Columbia neck gaiters. I bought them primarily to kayak and fish in; but wear them pretty much anytime I'm going to be in the sun a lot. They work. I have yet to be sunburned wearing one, and that's the idea. I spent yesterday morning fishing on a boat in a bay in Florida under the blasting sun, and I have no burn to show for it.
Candidly, this wasn't the one that I wore. Mine was an older model. This one has several improvements... And one worrisome drawback which prevented it from getting that 5th star.
The improvements consist of a more form fitting bottom that drapes over your shoulders and ventilating holes in the front. I can't vouch for the function of the little ventilating holes in actual use. Just sliding it on and trying it out, they seem to help a little, but not a lot. The form fitting bottom is great as it prevents a gap between your gaiter and a crew neck shirt; particularly if that crew neck is a little low. It functions well.
My problem is the length. Columbia has elected to shorten the garment by about 2 inches, and that's a problem.
If you've never worn one of these things, length is an asset. It makes it much more versatile. You can cover everything from the lower half of your face to virtually your whole head with one, depending on how you put it on. This one, however, is going to be limited to just pulling up on your face like a bandana. Hopefully, they'll correct the error of their ways and lengthen it.
For what it's worth, I do like the red, white, and blue color scheme...

Wore it 20 times saltwater fishing last year, and the vent holes and the hem stitching are at the end of their life. Otherwise the L/XL fit is excellent to go over a hat and around sunglasses.

This gaiter has a very tight, no stretch top. I can get it on, but can't get it to pull up over my ears for sun protection because it's too tight. I'm sending it back. Going to try a large.

Not as tight as previous reviews indicated. It was ordered to cover thyroidectomy scar in adult male son. Very loose around neck.

Really like the gaiter, it would be a 5-star review but this was the second gaiter purchased as first one ripped in the mouth area and Columbia still charged shipping fee for return. Don't feel a shipping fee should be charged when original product purchased is defective.

Ordered a small/ medium and it is way to too tight on the face. I wish I would have ordered the medium/large. Everything else about product is spectacular, comfortable fabric, the small holes in the nose area makes easy to breath. And it looks very nice 5'9 160 small cranium for context

Sizing ain't consistent: some run large while other are on the small side. I bought two of these in 2020 in the L/XL and they were way too loose, needing to be constantly pulled up. So I bought a S/M in Summer 2021 and couldn't even get over my head it was so tiny. So I bought another L/XL and it fit, albeit on the tight side. Sizing is a crap shoot. Wish it simply came in small, medium, large and extra large. Combining sizes doesn't work well. I normally wear a medium sized hat.
With the above said, it does what is designed for very well. Protects my neck from sunburn and even scratches when I'm walking through dense vegetation. I often wear it instead of a mask and have found it cooler than most cloth masks. It has breathing holes but, for mask purposes, I simply reverse or flip it.

Nice material but top edge does not stretch making it uncomfortably tight around the nose and cheeks while the remaining fabric over neck is spacious

This white gator is everything advertised.
The material is shear as to be light. Stuffing the nose area with T shirt material makes it okay for a Covid-19 face cover Maybe a different color would have been a better choice as my wife tells me it looks like I'm wearing her underwear. A good reason to not wear this when around other people. If not for this a 5 star rating.

I ordered the S/M and could not get it over my head. My hat size is around a 7 1/4. Returned it asking for the larger size and to date have not received it or a credit to my credit card.

Great materials and construction. Decreased functionality due to smaller fit. XXL sizing recommended.

I have the v1 of this and wanted to get another 1 or 2 for spares because they are so great for doing things out in the hot sun. Wet them down and they keep you cool and also keep the brutal desert sun from beating on your neck.
But I could only find this new version, which I do not like as much as the old one. The old version is longer and allows me to easily stretch it up over my head, while still having plenty of material to cover my entire neck and tuck into my shirt. With the new design I find it harder to do this without exposing some skin to the sun. If I don't stretch it over the top of my head it just sort of crumples around my neck, and doesn't do a good job of blocking the sun. So I think I am going to have to try to find some remaining v1 versions of this and stock up. Or if Columbia would just make these a bit longer, that would be awesome.

Get a size up. S/M is way too tight for a normal adult. It should fit kids only.
It was so tight on my face when I tried to take it off, it pressed hard against my ears and eyeballs. I can't wear this and can't return it because of the shipping costs.
The fabric is nice and cooling, so that's why I put 2 stars.

The rating is low not because of the quality of the product, it is because of the site's failure to clearly explain how to choose a size for these neck gaiter; on the site there are only measures for: caps, gloves, underwear and socks. I chose S / M and it was very tight ... I am from another country, I cannot return it.

It fits well and does what it's supposed to do, but the stitching is already tearing. Don't know if I'd spend the money to buy another one, or buy a cheaper one if this is just going to act like the same thing.

Even though it says XL, it is very tight going over my head and immediately hurts. It is not very stretchy. This means there is a small few whom it would fit properly.

The L/XL is too small and the gaiter does not stretch at all. Also, it does not feel breathable when wearing it.
