I usually wear a women's size 10 wide shoe or a men's 8.5. My Timberland boots for hiking have always been men's 8.5 and they feel roomy so I chatted with a CS rep on-line about this Nellie Chukka and she told me that the women's 9.5 wide is what I should order in this boot. The length isn't bad, only one toe on one foot brushes the end. The width however is a different story. Not in any universe is this boot a "wide". I have Keen shoes in 9.5 regular width that are far, far wider than these chukka boots in 9.5 wide. Very thin socks are the way I am going right now after taking a hot hair dryer to them and then sticking my feet in immediately to break them in. They should be fine in a week or so. Advice for those complaining about the tongue: Hot hair dryer while rolling the tongue a bit with your fingers solved the problem for me immediately. Tannery leather just needs time to soften up. I give these boots 4 stars on quality and craftsmanship, but for sizing I will go a full size up in wide width next time.

Love these shoes! Can't tell you how many Chukka style boots I tried before these. I have a high arch and a wide forefoot and was not sure these would fit because they do not come in a wide width. But these are easy to put on, have a roomy toe box and look great. Bought the same size that I wear in athletic shoes and I use a high-arch insole. Only break-in was where the collar and tongue hit my inside ankle bone -- no blisters, just tenderness for a few days. Balm Proofer was easy and did not change the color.

Took a few days to break them in, but otherwise comfortable.

While they do feel a little too big, they are my new favorite shoes.
The style and color are perfect and I literally watched the water roll off of them.

I bought these so I have cute and durable shoes to hike in, but I looove them for every day wear. I normally wear a 6.5 in shoes and I got a 6, wish I would've gone with a 5.5 but they're definitely still wearable and comfy!

The overall style of the shoe is great, but the tongue of the boot cuts into my ankle when I walk. It will take a lot of time to wear the stiffness out so that they are comfortable. Once that happens, I will be totally happy with my purchase.

I got these because I didn't see a similar smooth leather boot to replace some I bought years ago. These boots look nice. However, when I wore them with white socks, the black came off on them. I suggest wearing black boots with black socks.

Bought this boot for my 15 year old Daughter. I was sure she would like it but not sure at the same time. She was standing about 15 feet away from me when I opened the box and showed her. I've never seen her move that FAST! She hasn't complained of any problems yet.

I'm hoping that the stiffness will be temporary, but even with three pairs of socks and some rigorous walking in an attempt to break them in, I'm still getting blisters every time I wear them.

The shoes are comfortable and very well made. The only problem that I have is what size to order. These fit me at 6.5M but another pair of Timberland shoes fit me at 7M. I usually wear 6.5 size shoes.

I actually returned them to get a different style
But they are well made and if it wasn't for the white trim around them I would have kept them

I got the chukkas to replace my original 6in boots. There was a manufacturer problem. I haven't had a chance to wear out yet. But I like the lower top. Just have to put on the protection and off I'll go. Just wearing around the house I did notice the neck is still stiff. Hope this pair will last. I do love the look!

I received the shoe yesterday and was super excited to break them in while snow is on the ground. Unfortunately I never made it out the door. The shoe tongue is extremely stiff and digs into the foot with excruciating pain. I quickly placed the shoes back in the box. The shoe is huge (I wear a size 10) on the foot but that is expected because it's a boot. More than enough space to wear multiple socks if needed. Shoe lace provides good tightening of the shoe to prevent sliding if only one pair of socks is worn. Very stylish and looks exactly as shown on the internet. Would I purchase the shoe again if the shoe tongue was more flexible? Absolutely!

The exchange process was not as smooth as most other stores. I am still waiting for my refund on the first pair I ordered that were defective. It has been a week and a half and Timberland received the return order last week.
