The Royce Peak Pant seems to be a natural evolution from an earlier model with the extra zipper pocket down the seam. I wore the earlier model for so long I don't recall if it was called "Royce Peak" or something else...I just know they were great pants and the RP's seem to follow in those footsteps.
Highest possible recommendation.

Persuaded stubborn husband to try these, & ordered direct from Columbia, when on Labor Day 2019 50% off sale.
Fit, cut, stretch fabric, light weight, coolness, all good in Colorado summer heat. Liked 3 colors-- Shark, Cypress, and Olive Green. Didn't keep Beech color--too light a tan. Did an easy fast return by mail. Haven't been able to get him out of them since arrival. No problems laundering. Quick dry.
Size: Usually at 210 lbs, 5'10", both a 38 and 40 waist (uses a belt) work. Usual preferred length in jeans is inseam of 29 (hard to find). These work with an inseam of 28 ok, or an inseam of 30 shortened by turning over 1" and sewing it. Will buy again.

My husband is a little short. He usually wears 30 inseam, the 28 inseam actually fit him better

Bought these pants to go trekking in Cornwall. The fit, color, and delivery were as advertised and met expectations. On the trail, the pants were comfortable and well-fitting throughout the up-and-down trek. At the end of the day, they washed up and dried quickly. I rotated two pairs and always had a fresh pair at the beginning of the day.

I wear these to teach and they adhere to our professional dress code standards. They are way too comfortable and I feel as if I am circumventing the dress code but oh well. I also bike to work and these pants are great to transition to the bike. Front pockets are deeper than other Columbia pants I have had and that is a welcome improvement. I bought 3 pairs now and if Columbia gives me $300 for writing this review I will get more. Probs getting more anyway but don't tell Columbia.

These trousers are quite good. Really good. They fit well and wear comfortably in a range of summer weather. The lower right zipper pocket is just large enough to fit sunglasses in a reasonably sized case, and it won't get in your way when driving or walking.

These pants are absolutely great. The material that they are made out of make them ideal for hiking. Water and most liquids will run off. They fit great and look almost like slacks so they look very nice and feel super comfortable. I was worried the size wouldn't fit right but the pants fit as if I had went and tried them on myself.

Second pair of Columbia pants we ordered for our son for his trip to the Amazon (other pair were Columbia Silver Ridge II Pant) - he needed lightweight, wicking, . quick dry, comfortable pants for hiking. These should work very well. He can also wear them as every day and to work :)

I had three pairs of the original Royce Peak Pant, and had absolutely no complaints about them until the stitching started coming undone on all three pants. The back pocket was attached to the stitching and when it began unraveling the back pockets were rendered useless. This has all been fixed in this upgrade, with enhanced pockets, flawless design, and extreme comfort. It took me forever to find hiking pants that were neither too baggy or too tight and these are the perfect fit. With a slight taper in the calf and flattering fit in the thigh, I can stretch and move in these without feeling too constricted. Water repels right off of the pants, droplets just sitting on top of the fabric while still being breathable. Very pleased with this change and would recommend to anyone. Have them in all three pairs- I get constant compliments and I wear them even for just lounging around.

These pants are very lightweight and comfortable. Good sizing, the waist and hem are accurate for better made clothing, not running small like cheaper stuff.
The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because they really need to add some kind of closures for the back pockets. Because of the lightweight material, things tend to fall out easily. Had to add Velcro to mine to keep my wallet in. Other than that, they are excellent hot weather hiking pants.

My husband absolutely loves these pants!
He typically wears a size 36 jeans. We had to buy size 34 because otherwise after a few hours of wearing them they loosen up too much.
Other than the slight size issue, my husband absolutely loves them. He does wish they were a little bit more durable though.

I really like these pants. A bit of stretch, functional and true to size. A bit disappointed by the smallish mesh pocket and the side security pocket is tiny. Overall good value though.

These pants seem to fit nicely although I have not yet been able to try them out on the trail. Definitely looking forward!

Great fitting pant.
Leg openings could be a tad smaller.
The snap button should be replaced with a regular buttonhole and button.
Size is true. I bought two pairs of pants. One, my regular size and one size up just for comparison. The one my size fit perfectly.
Overall 8.5, out of 10.

These pants ran a little large on my husband, but he says they are very comfortable and functional otherwise. They are also versatile for different settings as he wears them for hiking or working outdoors but also for work attire in a business casual setting.

I'm only giving them 4 stars so far because I've only had them about a week. Great pants so far, lightweight, comfortable, and soft to the touch. We'll see if they hold up like the previous version. I love the old ones. These seem to be on par with those, time will tell. Good Buy and will buy again.

I stumbled upon the Royce Peak II pants at the beginning of this year and fell in love. Low waisted, light weight, and I really liked the stretchy, somewhat crinkly material. Last month I decided to add one more pair in a new color to my wardrobe. Same cut - kind of. Not sized the same at all - I had to buy a full waist size bigger than I'd bought earlier this year. (It's not me that changed - I'm still wearing the same belt.) And the material is different - not stretchy and crinkly. This marks the end of my love affair with Columbia products; there is no consistency whatsoever in sizing and material from one pant to the next - even in the same product line.
