I am a woman who wears size 11 and have hallux varus (my right toe deviates medially; think the mirror image of bunions). I had to get a men's 10.5 to accommodate the toe, and these are literally the only pair of shoes I own that don't hurt. I can now jog for the first time in years, thanks to these shoes. Such a relief.

I just finished a week of wearing the Altra Torin 3.5 Knit and this version is perfect for my feet. I had the Torin 3.0 and the only down side was the restrictive upper for my wide duck feet. The new 3.5 Knit has the same great design as the 3.0 but with a supportive knit upper. Despite the somewhat negative reviews from some of the running forums, If you have a wide foot or duck shaped feet the Torin 3.5 Knit is the shoe for you. Now I have to buy at least another pair or two. Thanks Altra, this knit update is out of out of the park! Keep up this kind of innovation.

I've had the escalantes for a year now (great shoe) and today My Torin Knit 3.5's arrived. I got them because I felt I needed a little more cushion. I was checking my tracking number all week feverishly waiting for them to get here. An hour after dinner , food barely digested , I took them for their first spin. I was only going to do 2 miles because I was exhausted from work and just ate but ended up doing 5 because my legs felt like they had more energy than usual. I like how the heel and laces felt real snug. I can't wait to see what a well rested , energized self can do in these puppies! Honestly wish I could get another pair just to kick around in because they look so darn cool and are super comfy too. I Highly recommended this shoe.

On the trails I run in the Altra Superior 4 and was looking for something similar for the road. This shoe fit the bill. It is cushioned, but to too cushioned. The toe box offer traditional Altra room. I find the materials and construction to be great quality. Look forward to logging some miles on the road in these.

Feels great, runs 1/2 size too small relative to other Altras.

I had high hopes for Altra. This was the second pair I tried. I need space in the toe box and this shoe gives you that. My problem with Altra was the narrowing of the back half of the shoe. They might work for a woman who needs space in the toe, but I found the part of the shoe from the arch to the heel too narrow. I also felt the inside of my foot falling over the edge to the shoe forcing my foot inward. The design just didn't work for me.

I used this product for runs ranging from 8 - 10 miles. They've held up pretty well and I'm at about 200 miles in them. They do seem to cause blisters but they are very light and help my form a lot.

I like the idea of these shoes, the shape, and the fit is good. But they squeak! Squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak as I walk along. It's the insole rubber moving over the sole rubber, apparently, since it squeaks equally on every walking surface. I tried tape on the bottom of the insoles, no noticeable improvement. I tried paper cutouts between insole and sole, with mysteriously little improvement. Next I'm trying waxed paper cutouts. And my feet feel damp when I take them off, so apparently not great air circulation. Maybe it's all the squeaky non-porous rubber in there. Also, they don't feel very sturdy, though they did not fall apart on the couple hikes that I wore them and show no points of impending collapse. After years of squished toes, I'm not giving them up yet. How can there be no other reviews that mention squeaking?

This shoe is very comfortable. I used it for 5-6 mile runs with no issues. Well, last night I was on a run and I stepped on a piece of glass about 3/4 inch thick that shot right through my shoe. It even cut through the insole! Somehow I managed to not get cut. I have never had an issue with road debris especially glass going through a shoe! Not sure if the sole is to soft but pretty bummed because this was like the 7or 8th time I have run in these and I have a 200 mile relay coming up next week! $135 + tax out the window!

I have owned every model of the Torin since they came out. The Torin 2.0 is still the best shoe I have ever owned. If I could go back in time I would buy 20 pair. The toe box height on the 3.5 is tall again so they fixed that error from the 3.0. The outsole is much better from earlier versions that had to be cleaned of loose pebbles after ever run. I'm not a fan of the mesh as my foot seems to slide around more in the shoe giving me blisters early on in my arch. I put in some Engo patches and no more blisters. I will probably stay with the Torin but I hope they continue to offer a non mesh version.

I am a 6-ft tall woman who wears a men's 11.5 running shoe. I have worn the Altra Instinct 3.5 and 4.0 successfully. I wanted to try this "upgrade" and liked the knit material and style, and it seemed of higher quality to me than the Instinct. However, I have a "tailor's bunion" on the outside of my feet, and the material was too binding and thus painful across the bunion of one foot. There seems to be an inflexible reinforcement or seam at that widest point of the foot. I was sorry to have to return them, especially as the new Instinct 4.5 model has a heel which fits wider than the previous models and thus slips. Without this particular fitting problem, I would definitely have kept the Torin Knit 3.5.

The "moderate arch" support caused my feet to supinate.
Toe box does not work with bunions as it causes the toes opposite the bunion to rub in the toe box.
I'd also recommend:

Very good shoes. I've had them a long time, and wear then almost exclusively. The only problem is that they are starting to peel off at the heel after 3.5 months. My previous all day, every day shoes were Altra One V3. Those shoes never peeled, or fell apart in any way. The only reason I stopped wearing them was because I flattened out the soles over 7.5 months of constant wear.

The fit on my Altra Torins was what I’ve come to expect on Altras. They run a little big, but the toe box is nice and roomy. I normally wear a ten in most shoes, but I go with a 9.5 on Altras. The reason I gave these shoes a 3/5 stars overall was that they wore out after less than 250 miles of road running. Both shoes have holes worn through the sides where my big toe sits. I can usually get quite a bit more mileage from a pair of running shoes. These were fine, if a little over padded, while they lasted, but they didn’t last long.

I use a thin prescription orthotic and the 3.0 version fit like a dream. I measure 8 EE and normally wear size 9. For some reason, the 3.5 seems too tight from the toe to arch area, both in terms of width and height. I've managed to find two pairs of 3.0 on auction sites to tide me over until next version. I bought size 9.5 of the 3.5 and they felt OK except they were too long and I was pushing off too far back in the shoe. Altra, please loosen these up a bit, people can always snug them up with lacing.

I loved the Torin 2.5 and 3, but the got it wrong with this model. Somehow, Altra decided to remove the width consistent with previous models and what sets their brand apart from others. Disappointed.

My Brooks were worn out and the normal joint pain was starting. Have heard a lot of great things about Altra so...I purchased the Torin Knits (size 13, Orange which actually are a cool Pinkish). I appreciate the online "chat" option as he, sorry forgot his name, told me the transition from my Brooks to the Torin would be the easiest. I put close to 20 miles on them and then ran a marathon. No joint pain, no inner, knee pain, loved the feel and comfort.
But...did I miss something with the sizing? I have never received blisters on my toes in any, and I mean, any of the running shoes I have tried. Honestly, running since 2004 and no blisters. Especially on both of my third toes?
I want to run in my Torin's again, especially being a few days after my marathon but my "third toe blisters" are a little painful.
So, though I am close to referring friends to this shoe/brand...did I miss something with the sizing?

I've really liked this brand because the lot are really wide and I have really wide feet. This was my second pair of altra's and I have to say I'm disappointed. The shoes could not stay tight. It was rediculous! I would have to tie my shoes so much because they loosened a TON! Also the grip on the shoes was ok, not very good.
