I use this an layer when taking a break during hiking, chilling at a camp ground in fall/spring, as well as a casual outer layer for work. Extremely light and warm and packs down to nothing. Great fit, true to size.

Usually a Large but got a medium after reading reviews. Mistake! It's a bit snug. However, I love these jackets so much I'm keeping it for snowboarding under my shell!

I have used this jacket in all types of conditions for both work and play. Great light weight insulation layer for taking to the top of a mountain or just wearing around town. Breath-ability keeps you warm and dry in the wind and cold. Also makes a great base layer to wear under rain coat to stay warm and dry.

It's very light weight but still warm. Not overkill on the insulation. Perfect for all but the freezing coldest days

I have been trying every lightweight packable down jacket I can get my hands on. I just could not find the right warmth. This jacket is the last one I have to try. Sure there are lighter options on the market but absolutely none compare when it comes to the warmth/weight ratio. This jacket made it into every single overnight pack trip from late spring to just a couple months ago. I love the fleece lined pockets and it packs down into its own pocket real small.

So I asked my GF to get me this for Xmas because the one color scheme was on clearance for half price (grey/red). She hates waiting to give gifts so I have it already and used it already. It's super light and surprisingly warm. I'm loving this jacket. I do a lot of over night hikes and multi-day hikes in the new england area and this is perfect. Anyone who's been or is from that area knows those mountains are unpredictable. I'm so happy to have a warm packable jacket like this. As far as sizing I have noticed most hiking gear is more form fit so when in doubt I always size up. Also I wanted to be able to fit extra layers under this in case I'm in really cold weather. I'm 225 lbs. and 6'5" and the XXL fit me perfectly to allow additional layers underneath if need be but isn't drowning me by itself either. It's just slightly loose which is what I wanted. I probably could have squeezed in a XL if I really wanted a tight form fight.

I recently put this jacket through its paces during a long 48km day hike through the ADK high peaks region. It served me well during the cold (-3 C) early morning start, breathed very well while starting an ascent (paired with an echo tee and echo LS), and was perfect to pull out again while taking in the views at the top of the peaks. It was super lightweight to carry in my daypack, and compressed easily into its own internal storage pocket. Would highly recommend!

I love this jacket, you cannot beat the warmth to weight ratio! This jacket packs super small and provides superior warmth wherever your adventures may take you! I had this jacket in 50+ mph winds and barely felt any penetration, plus it kept me nice and toasty. If you plan on heading to the mountains, this jacket is a must. If OR made the shell of this jacket more waterproof, without adding more weight/compactibility nothing would stop it! **Also it runs a tad big! i usually wear large jackets but I ordered a medium so it would be snug on me if I needed to put on my shell layer** Im 5'9" 160lbs

I purchased the Illuminate Down Hoody mainly for two reasons: OR quality/design & I wanted a lightweight down jacket with a hood. I recommended this jacket. It fits true to size, it's not bulky, it's warm and lightweight & it packs down really small.

This jacket has become a staple in my pack. If the temp drops below 50 I throw it on. I even packed it for a 30 mile section hike on the A.T. in July. It worked well for a pillow, but after we got caught in a storm and soaked on top of Roan Mountain it was the first thing I put on after a dry t-shirt.

As tomorrow is the first day of summer, I have not used the jacket on a trip, but in the fall, it will get plenty of testing.

I use this jacket everyday on cold days. Lightweight and very warm. I look forward to using it on backpacking trips and seeing how it performs. Outdoor Research is on the ball with utilizing the left pocket to double as a case in which the jacket folds and zippers into making it more compact when putting it in your pack. They do this with a bunch of thier products which helps compress your pack size.

Such a comfortable jacket. Amazing fit and its very warm. When temperatures are below zero just the jacket over a t-shirt is enough.

I've worn this jacket by itself casually and layered it under waterproof shell for cold weather fly fishing and I would definitely recommend it. Warm and comfortable, breathable, yet very light. I also think it is very stylish to go with its functionality.
