I live in Valdez Alaska where we deal with ice all winter. I have had these boot for a couple of weeks now. They are warm and comfortable. I have noticed that I do slip with them on. So as the ice gets worse I will still have to put the ice grips on.

This boot has great traction on the sole , but it's a useless boot for winter due to the ankle height , and has no ankle support. Also the tongue does not reach all the way to top of the boot , so even a small puddle or snow will get in then wet socks for the day , this should be classed as a shoe not a boot .

For me the lacing is insufficient. Tongue loosens when hiking.

So clearly these shoes are meant to for casual hikes. I got these shoes because I'm a mailman and I needed something to keep my feet dry and warm during the snow season, and would hold up for at least 3 or 4 months. When I got them they were a little snug for the size, but I figured that is due to the winter insulation, but wide wasnt a size option to compensate for the insulation. But being snug aside, they seemed nice kept my feet warm and dry. I didnt wear them every day till it was constantly wet and snowy. But even not wearing them that much at the begining they still only lasted about a month. The treads are holding up, but with in a month my feet started to be soaked and freezing by the end of the day. The first couple of times I though maybe snow was going over top and getting in that away, bet then I noticed my feet got wet when I stepped I a puddle. I looked at them when I got home and the shell is pulling away from the soul, around the toes and ball of my foot. I dont see a place to place the photos of my shoes on this review. I didnt give it a 1 star because it still gave me good support and the treads held up but having water proof shoes that after a month of use left me wet and cold seemed like a waste of money.

First I must say that I love Merrell product. But this one J42609 is the worst winter boots I ever bought. They are warm (400gr) but the reason I bought it is for the Arctic grip that was supposed to be the best on ice! I love walking even in winter and I am very careful when walking on ice, but with these boots, careful is not enough. In fact any boots with Arctic Grip. As soon you walk on ice with these boots your in trouble. I felt 4 times and hurt myself badly even being very careful. This type of sole shouldn't be on the market. Don't buy

I cannot believe they do not check their product before sending them and that is a shame

I keep slipping on snow and wet ice and definitely doesn't keep your feet warm in even -10. Waste of money.
