Wanted something lightweight enough to wear into crowded bars and restaurants, but substantial enough for the worst Chicago winter day. This jacket fits the bill. Couldn't believe it when I got it in the mail. The box was so light, it felt empty. Even took it back to the store to see if I could exchange it for something more heavy-duty because I couldn't believe something so lightweight could live up to its promises, but one of the staff members talked me into keeping it, comparing its features to those on other coats. Glad she did.
Technically, this is a midlayer, but it's so great as an outer layer in all but the wettest conditions, that don't rule it out. It holds up just fine in heavy snow. In sleet, I'll add my shell over it, but I haven't needed to yet. This jacket magically seals you off from the weather. Even on windy days, the weather doesn't get through. Have worn this in weather down to 3F, with a light sweater and t-shirt underneath. Perfect. On the coldest days, I add a thin neck scarf and a fleece hat under the hood. On most days in the 20's, just a shirt under is fine. The hood fits well and would permit a biking helmet, but when zipped all the way up, still allows a bit of an air gap between the nose and hood. That's OK, it's the room that lets me get a scarf in there. A Turtle Tube pulled up over the mouth works perfectly.
No issues with feathers escaping. All buildings in Chicago seem to be overheated in the winter, making you have to rip your coat off the second you come inside. This coat is so breathable that temperature regulation is fine--no need to remove it inside. I imagine it would be outstanding for outdoor athletic activities. For the price, wish it had some elongated stretchy cuffs, but its performance is so perfect, I can't dock a star. Am about 6' 200, and the XL is fine. The Large zips up, but is a bit tighter in the shoulders due to the athletic cut, so I sized up.

This jacket was my camping go-to this summer. I had a really thin sleeping bag while camping up at Garibaldi but had this jacket on while I slept and it kept me so warm... thankfully, since the mercury dipped! Perfect for layering under a waterproof jacket on cold, rainy days. I love how the whole jacket fits inside the tiny little bag, which makes it perfect for travel or backpacking trips.
I chose the Thorium over the Cerium because it is more streamlined and less Michelin man. I have to say that this is one of my favourite Arc pieces and I always try to find an excuse to wear it!
A note: jackets with lighter colours (ie. pink tulip, seaglass) the feathers show through. This doesn't effect the performance of the jacket in any way but for aesthetic purposes you might want to go for a darker colour!

I got this jacket in black, and I love that it doesn't have that shiny trash bag look like many other black down jackets. It's a nice matte black. It's definitely the best in it's class compared to other brands. It looks nice on, and is warm for chilly weather. I get cold easily, so I have a much heavier down jacket for really cold weather, but for the weight of this one, it's pretty warm. The fit is good, with room for me to layer a t-shirt, fleece, and light vest under it, yet it still looks and feels good with only a thin baselayer under it. It runs too wide for me in the hip area, but the elastic drawstring takes care of that. I sort of wish the drawstring extended around the front, but it definitely looks nicer the way it's designed. I like the way the cuffs are designed too, and I'm a little finicky when it comes to cuffs! Arcteryx did a great job on their first down jackets!

Light weight, great jacket! Its warm, and has wide enough shoulders for women who actually do climb and have an athletic build. Works great alone or when layering. Worth the price, and completely satisfied with my purchase.
I researched various different companies before buying a down jacket, and this is definitely the best option I found.

To start i have both the Thorium and Cerium. I am 174cm with a 92cm chest and 33" waist measurement.
The fit. I went for a Small on the Thorium, which is exactly like a Medium on the Cerium. The Thorium has a more relaxed fit compared to the Cerium's trim fit. I can easily wear my Rho baselayer and Atom LT unferneath with no problems, whereas on the Cerium, it feels restricted with layers on. The sleeves and the length on the Thorium are also slightly longer.
Adjustments. There are NO hood adjustments on the Thorium whereas the Cerium has one. I do not find it a problem since the Thorium has a much cozy hood and coverage is awesome. It also has a slightly higher collar than the Cerium.
There is one single drawcord near the hem on the Thorium, which does NOT exist on the Cerium. Personally i think the drawcord is a must to trap winds, especially for insulated garments.
The zippers. Main zipper on the Thorium is identical to the one on the ATOM series. Beefier than that on the Cerium. Good thing about it is that it does not unzip itself in windy conditions like the one on the Atom. Meanwhile the main zipper on the Cerium is tiny. Zipping thr jacket up is just a pain.
The feel. The Thorium has a much more cozy feel, but it does not make you look like a tyre man or as bulky as jackets like Canada Goose. Sure it might not be as warm, but for a lightweight down jacket it does its job perfectly. The outer shell definitely feels stronger.
Veredict. The Thorium is my everyday choice unless you are obsessed with super lightweight gear (Cerium). It has a better zipper, stronger outer fabric and a slightly relaxed cut.

To start, I am 5"10 175lbs and a medium thorium fits like a glove. There is enough room to fit a fleece and articulation is great. Two reasons why I picked this jacket over the cerium LT are...1. The zipper is the plastic vislon that is used in almost all their hard shells. The cerium does not use the same zipper. 2. The face fabric is 40D over the 20D in the cerium. Overall this jacket fits under my alpha lt with no issues and is so light that I can't even feel it. Great jacket yet again.

I took this jacket up to Killarney in Ontario last weekend, it performed great! Everytime I washed up and splashed water on my cuffs, and everytime I put on my 50 lb pack, I was grateful for the coreloft. I was very biased in favour of natural materials like down, but the design of this jacket has changed my mind. Highly recommended!
Fits really well, and quite stylish too!

The quality of the clothes is very good, as a sports jacket is very adequate, but the design is a little backward, the young people around me will not wear this bloated clothes

I bought this model during the black friday sale. At first, I wanted a cerium Lt but the black color was sold out. Compared to the cerium the thorium seems sturdier as a standalone.
So far I love the jacket, it's really warm and I like the high neck and the hood. It's practical for windy days.
The downside:
- For a small figure, the sizing at the shoulders could be too big. I find it a tad to big around my shoulders.
- Bottom pocket zipper: it doesn't zip easily as the jacket zip. I cannot zip it in one shot need to use my two hands or slowy zip it with one hand.

This latest hoody is my second Thorium I bought. The last green one is still pretty good after more than 10 years of wearing and washing. I noticed though that this year version is made with a different kind of exterior tissue. The feeling of the touch is not the same as my previous one. Is this a new material for the outter protection? Don't get me wrong here, the new version of this Thorium is as good as the 10 years old version as far as isolation is concerned. Your product are of an extreme quality. It's worth what we are paying for. I just love all Arc'teryx products.

I got this jacket to wear on the day to day around the city and also as an alternative to my proton for colder days on the mountain. Upon receiving it I was worried it was too bulky to fit under my shell. Much to my surprise, it fits great under my Sentinel LT shell. Now I want it in every colour!

This is our third Thorium. The family loves them.
My only negative comment is that this color is greenish and that doesn't come out in the online photo.

I love everything about this jacket, except for when i am wearing it with the hood down. It tends to kind of annoy the back of my head, but it produce a nice fit when its over my head.

Love this jacket, light and warm. I like the heavy duty front zipper - give a satisfying and durable zip. I got the size L, I am 6'1" and slender with long arms. It fits well, would not want it any shorter in the body, and it is not too big around. The new model has interios dump pockets, which would be nice

The jacket is very warm and pretty durable as well as light weight.
It definitely runs small. I only need to wear a T shirt with it most days but if I needed another layer under it probably wouldn't fit.
If I size up I'm swimming in it so unfortunately I can't win with this one. Still a great jacket overall.

I bought this as a winter coat in the city and a layer for outdoor activities. I am not disappointed.
Very warm. At times felt a little cool under -15 celsius, but with a shell over it I have never been cold.
It is slightly short. so when we adjust the strings to the waist to keep the wind out, it comes up even further. I find myself pulling it down sometimes, but not overly bothersome.
Also, feels like they fill the inside of the elbows less than elsewhere, i assume to retain some mobility with the arms, but i often feel this area to be cold when i wear only a t-shirt underneath.
Otherwise, looks awesome, fabric seems pretty tough, very comfortable, the hoody is so warm i barely need a tuque anymore, and all around very warm for any activity in less than extreme environments.
Would recommend mostly as casual wearing around the city. but can also do in winter light hiking or other low output activities. It may seem obvious, but cannot wear this during any physical activity, will overheat quickly.
No issues with losing down on my part. have had it for 4 months.

This jacket looks great, keeps me warm and I love the durability of the outer layer. Only minor complaints are the tightness of the wrist cuffs (especially when wearing over gloves) and the pockets being somewhat shallow. When fully zipped up with the hood down, the zipper doesn't sit comfortably near the chin, but when the hood is up, it's fine.

Bought the Glitch colour thinking it was grey, but it is more of a grey-navy blue. Would have ordered I different colour if I knew that.
Face fabric heavier than cerium and atrium, but also more durable.
Helmet compatible hood would be nice.

5' 11" 145 lbs. Medium fits perfectly, neither baggy nor constricting. Tested on brisk walk in 34-degree wet snow/drizzle, with a tee, flannel shirt, and light down vest underneath, and was comfortable without overheating. The shell fabric is considerably more substantial than on the Cerium LT, you'd be less likely to tear it on rock or brush. Why not use higher-quality down for additional loft and warmth, or a sturdier shell on the Cerium, and combine the best of both jackets?
