Just took my new beta AR jacket out for it's first adventure snowboarding at Jay Peak in Vermont and loved it! Great range of movement, very effective weather protection in high winds/cold temps. Color is beautiful. Great shell. Thanks Arc'terx :)

I live in Squamish BC; temperature at sea level average out around -5c to 5c in winter. Not terribly windy in winter but it rain almost everyday. Spring and fall average around 0c to 10c and very windy.
I walk 5 miles everyday after work and hike on the weekend. I purchased the Beta AR early this fall and been using it ever since. It rains all the time where I live and it is fairly warm at sea level. What is the one thing most wives or girlfriends ask you? "Honey... Do you want to go for a walk?" I never liked walking aimlessly in the past and discovered the reason why not long ago: Because I never been properly dressed for it. I have had the pleasure of discovering liking going for a walk now that I can stay dry and warm.
This hard shell is amazing for a few reasons: It actually got my off my butt and made me want to go play outside would probably the best part of it all. It also give me a chance to reminisce about when I was a kid fishing on the lake while wearing this god aweful rain jacket that made me sweat like crazy. It also reminded me of some of the most wonderful days spent in camp with a tin roof listening to the rain and feeling warm and protected in my sleeping bag.
this is the feeling I get when I wear the Beta AR. I feel protected and it inspires me to be a better person, corny isn't it? well it's the truth. Some people have bought this shell to stay dry and save their lives while in dangerous weather environment. On my side it's been more about a psychological improvement about the way I think about myself and the environment I am in. It opened my eyes to the beauty of the nature where I live in Squamish, BC. It also gave me a chance to go and scout mountain bike trails when it is too wet and greasy to bike.
Whether you want physical or emotional protection, this shell has a funny way of opening your eyes to the environment you live in.

When I started looking for jackets I was used to a dept store 3 in 1. Went to the Arc'teryx store here in town they explained me the differences in the products and jacket types. So very happy with this jacket got the Midnight Sun based on what my good friend said was best and have nothing but compliments on the jacket. Would definitely recommend anything Arc'teryx they well worth it.

I wanted a waterproof shell that fit my build well, and that's exactly what I got with this jacket. Just as with every Arcteryx product, quality is top notch. The fit is excellent. I've found that many Arcteryx size small regular cut works very well for my build. Arm length and torso length/width are spot on. I've used this in straight downpours and remained completely dry.
True story, I met up with a friend for lunch. Happened to be during heavy rain. My office is only a couple of miles away so I decided to just walk. Arrived at the restaurant and was told I was nuts for walking out in the rain. Took off my jacket and then whoa you're not even slightly wet? Grabs my jacket (at this time all the water had shed off), holy cow what jacket is this? I could have sworn this was completely wet when you came in. They now own a Zeta AR. Thanks Arcteryx!
For reference I am 5'7 150lbs, 38.5inch chest, small is perfect.

Back in the day, when I used to do all the fun things, I had a very well loved and used Beta AR. I needed to warranty it, but wasn't optimistic that it would be covered. However, to my wonderous surprise, ARCTERYX did warranty my jacket and sent me a new one -- super Fast!! And while I am no longer able to blaze through that chest deep pow or hike the whole of the Appalachian Trail, I can still chase my mini-me's in style and dry comfort!! Thank you ARCTERYX for making me even more grateful that I invested in your product, the Beta AR.

This is.
Used for hiking, around town and mountaineering. It does all these very well in conditions where it is not too warm and where it is expected to be tough. Perfectly sized for these activities too as comfortably enough room to layer underneath.
Incredibly tough looking: I hiked the AT with this jacket and have done hundreds of miles more in the mountains and doesn't look any different. Potentially for mountaineering/ ice climbing the pockets of the alpha would be more suitable but still performs fantastically.
Looks great being worn around town too.
I would say it is overkill for most scenarios if you wanted to get a cheaper jacket that would be fine and certainly on hikes where you would expect to have it in your bag more (I.e. summer) there would be options I would take instead to be lighter and more breathable but that isn't really this jackets fault (you need more than one jacket if you want one to be perfect for every scenario) and it truly is a bomber which acts as an amazing weather protector

From Skiing to Climbing to around town, this jacket is the superior jacket of them all. The jacket's fit and durability are a notch above the rest. I was so impressed with my first AR that I bought a second one. I cannot express how incredible this jacket is.

Absolutely love my Beta AR. It's my daily driver and fits well, looks stylish, and is perfect for the rainy climate in which I live. I pair it with a small puffy as an underlayer during the winter and just the shell for the spring/summer.
If I HAD to complain, it would be the collar that flattens after a couple of years... but honestly, it's not a big deal especially since it's been used extensively.

I have owned Arc'teryx shells for 15+ years, and this is my favorite.

The Beta AR Jacket is an essential must have jacket. For all weather conditions. It will not bleed through in Rain, has breathable side zippers to control temperature and lots of adjustable pulls to fit all types of layering. Packs up nicely into the hood. I highly recommend this jacket as an essential out shell with great versatility.

Iv had a beta AR for almost 6 years now and it still holding up strong. Iv done everything in this jacket, snow shoes, 15 day backpacking trip, everyday commuter, and climbed baker and golden ears with this jacket. This is the best all round jacket you can get. Mine is showing some slight wear in the inner fabric, but after >6 years of hard use, id expect it.

This is a substantial jacket. The fabric feels thick in the hands and doubly so in some of the reinforced areas (the shoulders where a pack could cause abrasions). The DWR has held up for 2 winters now, I wear it often about 6 months out of the year. It is an excellent piece on top of a light sweater or thermal layer, but a bit too loose on my torso when paired with a t-shirt for example.

I bought this shell years ago on a stormy day in Colorado and haven't regretted it a minute since. Gore-tex does exactly what you expect from the fabric and the fit is just right for an athletic shell. Drop-hem is just right, and the hood sinches up or fits over a helmet just right. The stand alone collar is great for keeping driving wind off the face and neck without the hood. It's a bit trim on features but the trade-off is that the jacket packs very small. I roll the whole thing into the hood and have it in the bottom of my pack any time I might see precip. At 5'10", 180lbs a medium fits perfectly.

This is my first waterproof shell and I really love it. I wanted something I could wear for all my outdoor activities - lots of walking with my dog, but also cycling and trying some alpine sports later this year. I heard amazing things about Arcteryx jackets and figured I'd go with the investment piece. You can tell it's super high quality and there are lots of nice little features. Highly recommend, I would for sure repurchase.
