Need help! In New Zealand for a month with 10yr old Beta AR now falling apart at bottom with next 3 wks to go being more challenging.. Able to buy duct tape today and place around bottom edge to keep drawcord in place. Brought this instead of hybrid light. Please email me if you receive this- have pictures. Bought at Salt Lake City REI autumn 2007. Wore this all over while living in Alaska.

I purchase this jacket to replace my 1997 Marmot Mountain Lightweight Jacket that was simply getting old. So far this jacket has proven itself worth the investment. It provides excellent protection from the elements, has a good hood design, and is much lighter that my previous jacket. I am currently living and trekking in Nepal and I look forward to putting this jacket through it's paces for the next few years.
My only gripe thus far is the lack of elastic in the wrist cuffs. The jacket requires loosening the velcro straps when putting it on or taking it off and I wonder how long the velcro will last. This is a minor detail and may not be an issue if the velcro holds out.

I had this shell for 8 years and unfortunately it got stolen last week as I was ending a hiking trip in Oregon (yep). I travelled everywhere with it, from the Andes to the Arctic circle! Pouring rain, snow, wind, mud, from -30C to 30C, bring it! I really enjoyed the hood, armpit zippers and the overall quality and design.
I can tell you that it is probably the most versatile jacket ever created. I'm 5'3 and 120 lbs, wearing size Small and have enough space for a layer underneath if I'm cold. In the winter, I usually (used to) wear it with the Cerium LT down jacket and the Atom hoody jacket or the Covert fleece in the Fall. Also, Arc'teryx offers a lifetime warranty, which is amazing in you plan on keeping that jacket for a while.

I use this jacket for backpacking and everyday rainwear. The jacket is very abrasion resistant and stands up to repeated use. I love the extra space in the shoulders that prevent the arms from sliding up when worn with a pack.

From the first time I put the jacket on I knew it would be a great jacket. It fits perfectly. I got it big enough to put a heavy sweater or light weight down jacket under it. But it isn't too big when I wear it over a T-Shirt. I love it.

After sending in my Beta SL for warranty repairs 2 months after I got it, they suggested I get a more durable jacket so I upgraded to the Beta AR. I have no regrets! I have used it by itself and with a down sweater and it protects me from the wind and rain. I am looking forward to testing it out further!

My experience with Arcteryx goes all the way back to December 2000, when I took a chance on a hitherto unknown brand and pulled the trigger on an unusually short Kappa SP shell (which is still very much in use - even the waterproofing is still going strong). After just a few times out with this marvel of textile engineering, I never even considered looking at any other brands.
Since then, I've added a couple Beta ARs and a Beta FL to the list, wearing the first AR down from years of heavy use (still wearable, just not as waterproof) and the current AR and FL still serving me well.
The fit of the AR is just about as perfect as a jacket can be - there's enough room to layer properly without feeling squeezed, but it can also be worn straight up without feeling like you're wearing a tarp. The sleeves will not hike up when raising your arms and the hem length provides constant coverage no matter how far you bend down.
Even the hood works like a hood should, and this coming from an avowed anti-hood-wearer (childhood thing - bad hoody from mom). It sits properly and snugly on your head and follows its movements easily, even without a helmet.
Beyond this, it's a relatively low-profile jacket, without a lot of extra frills - just the way a jacket should be. It has enough pockets to serve that purpose, but is otherwise economical in materials and weight. The material itself is initially a bit crinkly, but that soon disappears with use. Naturally, the waterproofing and breathability are spot on.
All in all, you won't go wrong with this one.

Just worn it for a whole day in Northern British Columbia watching bears and whales. Supremely comfortable, I wouldn't have known I was wearing it, and the air temperature varied from below freezing to above 14 degrees.

This is one great Jacket! Great fit, not too big, not too snug and I'm 5'11 180Lbs. Ample freedom of movement and with a base layers and unabashedly fends off whatever the elements throw at you. I usually wear a Ghost whisperer thin down jacket under it on most ski days and no matter how low the temp or wind speed, I'm always at the right temperature. This is the one jacket that goes everywhere with me! I'm thinking seriously about getting one for my wife this Christmas, what's the old saying? "If you buy quality, you only cry once!"

Great piece of kit. This jacket goes with me everywhere, from the Rockies in winter to tropical storms in Africa. Layers nicely over a puffy or sweater. Breathes and vents very well. Rolls up small for the pack.

Perfect jacket for all your needs. Great for shoulder seasons where you don't know if you will get snow, rain or sunshine but also the dead of winter in the cold. We do a lot of long hikes that take us through different elevations and temps and this jacket adjusts well with venting when you need. I've never owned a jacket anywhere near this for how it is windproof which makes all the difference when you are in the open in the winter.
The fit is perfect for a large, no excess through the body but still room to layer when you need to.
Can't say enough about this jacket's versatility and durability. I've caught it on tree branches and been worried it would be damaged and it holds up to whatever you throw at it with no pulls or tears. Will last you as long as you need it to.

Great jacket for layering. I got it for my hike up Kilimanjaro last October, and have used it a ton since. Very durable, and versatile. I'm happy with how many layers I can fit underneath, and how it also fits just on it's own. Just wish the pockets were a little more user friendly :)

Love this jacket! True to it's name, its an all-round great piece. From hiking to snowboarding to general day use this jacket is perfect for them all. Nice length, great hood, and of course super waterproof! I bought an xl so its roomy enough for layers but it's not too baggy to be worn on its own. Best of all, doesn't feel like a sticky garbage bag when you get your sweat on : )

I've had this jacket for two years now and I've worn it all year around. It's highly versatile and have never failed me despite all the things, and all the seasons I've put it through. I highly recommend it to everyone who needs a good looking, durable, lightweight and versatile jacket!
