This backpack is tiny. Could not fit half of my 12 year olds school items and his middle school doesn't require a lot. This is not a good school bag- more for carrying everyday items or for a younger child.

I ordered this backpack a few years ago, thinking that it would be my backpack all through high school. Unfortunately within the first year of using it, it began to rip in the front pocket seam, so when accessing stuff from the front pocket I can see right into the larger back pocket. The product is very comfortable and great for students, but I wish it would have held up a little better.

Purchased for my daughters first year in High School. She is still growing and not as tall as she will be. Bought it in July prior to school and by Christmas the right shoulder strap was beginning to pull away from the base of the pack. By February I saw it necessary to return. Returning was simple but I disagree with the shipping costs being deducted of my reimbursement. I would not have had to return it if it wasn't defective. I then had to call for my "24" ecard. I showed it was received by Northface on 17th and by the 23rd I still had not received my ecard. My daughter loves North Face so we will try a more expensive backpack a little bit bigger. This one she says was not the size she had hoped for. If it doesn't work I can give a shout out to Eddie Bauer bags. My oldest went through 4 years of college with the same bag and it she traveled with it as well. Super made. If this next North Face doesn't work... I will insist my youngest by from eddie Bauer.

I loved loved the color scheme! So simplistic yet the purple was bright. The over all structure was comfortable but there is only one large compartment and a much smaller one. Terrible if you're a student especially if you need your laptop. Needs another large compartment OR make this same color scheme available in larger backpacks like the borealis or recon.

After a few weeks of using the product, the seem on the divider for the laptop sleeve start to come undone. After a few more weeks, the reinforced upper part of the seam is completely removed from the divider itself making it cumbersome to load/unload my laptop into the divider sleeve.

I dont like the fact that when I put this backpack on a seat it falls over. There is not enough support at the bottom of the bag. So when I take out my laptop and binder, it tips over and is very annoying. This was 1st ever North Face purchase.

This bag is fine if you really don't bring much to school, but for me, just bringing it to camp or as a small carry-on on a plane was difficult, much less carrying all of my school stuff! The front pocket is too small for most things, and gets very bulgy, and the pencil area on the inside of the big pocket makes that too-narrow big pocket even smaller. Could not imagine trying to fit all of my school stuff in there.

THE INTERIOR POCKETS OF THE JESTER THAT WE PURCHASED ONLINE WERE SEWN IN BACKWARDS --- THEY WERE IN THE MAIN COMPARTMENT RATHER THAN THE FRONT COMPARTMENT --- EVIDENTLY A GIANT MANUFACTURING SNAFU WITH THIS MODEL. AFTER DECIDING THAT THIS WAS A MAJOR ANNOYANCE, WE RETURNED IT TO THE NORTH FACE STORE (THOUGH WE HAD PURCHASED ONLINE) WHERE WE WERE GIVEN A NO-HASSLE EXCHANGE TO THE UPGRADED "BORIALIS" MODEL. THE SALES ASSOCIATE WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, SO WE DID NOT HAVE TO EXPLAIN OURSELVES. SO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS TOP-NOTCH, IF NOT THE BAG. THE BAG WAS OF HIGH QUALITY, JUST NOT RIGHT ... LIKE A MERCEDES WITH THE SEATS BACKWARDS. IF NORTH FACE WANTS TO SELL THESE BAGS, THEY SHOULD SELL THEM AS "SECONDS" AT A DEEP DISCOUNT, AND NOT TRY TO HIDE BEHIND ONLINE PHOTOGRAPHS THAT NOW OMIT THE BAG'S INTERIOR. WHEN WE PURCHASED THE BAG, THE PHOTOS WERE INCORRECT. NOW THEY ARE JUST GONE FROM THE WEBSITE.

Two strikes against the redesigned Jester:
1. As with all the 2015 redesigned daypacks, I find the straps less comfortable than the old model. The old models traps were wider so they distributed weight better. The new straps are relatively narrow, stiff, and scratchy.
2. The organizer panel is backward. It's facing backward in the large compartment instead of facing forward in the small compartment as shown in the image. The defect was present in the model I ordered from the website and in every one I saw in the store when I went to return it. I've never seen a correct one except in the stock image here on the website. (I assume the web image is correct because it makes more sense that way.) TNF seems to have incorrectly manufactured the entire run of new Jesters, and then just decided to sell them anyway. If that's your plan, dudes, at least update the website image so it looks like it's supposed to be like that! Don't advertise one thing and then sell another.
Between the uncomfortable redesign and the shoddy QA, TNF has lost a loyal customer/occasional shill.

Anytime you set your backpack down, no matter if it's empty or full, the whole thing falls over and is extremely inconvenient to set up. It seems like a minor issue but as a student, it is incredibly annoying.

I'm in 8th grade and I got it for school, on the first day I could tell it was too small. I got by even though it took forever to get stuff in it but then after a month the zipper snapped in half

This backpack was clearly never tested in the rain. Even if you use the water resistant spray it leaks. Water runs down the back panel that says "North Face" and pools where it comes to a V under the bungee cord and proceeds to leak and ruin all you books. It needs a drain. My other gripe is the shoulder straps are pretty stiff (as of a few weeks) puts point pressure my trapezoids when carrying alot of weight. Other than my two gripes.... the bag is solid, slim but can carry a normal mount of books.

Wow I regret losing my old Jester because this new one is terrible!!! Uncomfortable, no space, cheap looking material that makes so much noise, heavy without much in it. My back sweat with this one, never with my old one. Too bad Northface changed things to worse.

I had to change my old NorthFace backpack for a lighter one when I started having a longer commute. I liked the Jester because it was pretty lightweight. After 3 days of using it I lost my Contigo water bottle.I then noticed that it was due to the huge side pockets that according to NorthFace customer support these are made to retain 32oz bottles. Just crazy! Side pockets are not made well, the elastic is not strong enough to hold a normal size water bottle. I'm now using 2 hooks to lock the new water bottle to the backpack, very inconvenient.

I was disappointed with this backpack because the photo and description were incorrect. The pocket organizer was suppose to be in the back pocket and not in the front with the laptop pocket. When asked if this was a mistake, I was told that was the way this one comes. Descriptions need to be more accurate.

If i could give this 0 stars i would! Why did you mess with a good thing, the previous jesters were perfect. This new style is shaped like an inverted egg and the bottom is slanted so it could never sit up on its own. I am disappointed with TNF as i have been an avid customer for many years. Why did you have to make one of the most affordable bags also the ugliest? Will be returning.

I am only giving this a negative comment based on color! I ordered the london fog heather. The part that appears to be an off-white color *the middle section" is actually a zinc grey color. It does not look like this in the picture on here!

I was extremely excited for this backpack and was throughly dissapointed when it came in. The straps were sewed on diagonally making it impossible to put on and use.

I got this product recently for my freshman year of high school. After the first semester it was a little dirty so I washed it, following all the instructions on the tag correctly. DONT EVER WASH THIS BAG!! Mine came out of the washer completely ruined. I would not recommend this bag to anyone unless they never plan on washing it!!! After discovering the faulty product that tore, I immediately emailed the company and still have not heard back from them!!!!

I got caught in the rain with this backpack on my college campus for only 2 minutes and when I got home the entire inside of the backpack was soaked through. I had to blow-dry all of my papers and I had to pay hundreds of dollars to fix my laptop because there was so much water damage. The backpack even had a sleeve for my laptop, suggesting it would be protected. For a backpack that is supposed to be for hiking, and has a laptop sleeve, it is certainly not practical and very misleading.
