When summer ends and the rain begins this bag has enough room for the basics + basic rain gear

I use this as my writing bag. I carry my surface pro, a full size writing pad on a clipboard, a small moleskin notebook, a pencil case, a novel, and my external battery/power bank. It fits everything perfectly.
The materials and colors are nice and the design is very well considered. I'm very happy with this bag--it actually improves my mood when I use it because I like it so much.
If I would change anything, it would be nice to include some blank Velcro straps to put on the flap Velcro in case you don't want to have to tear apart the Velcro every time you open the bag. Very minor, but it would be a nice option.

I had one of these for years but moved to a backpack when they issued me a larger laptop at work. I ended up giving the one I had to a friend but have always missed this bag and have never found any other messenger bag that was designed quite as well, and just bought a new size S.
Pros:
Excellent sizing. Most medium messenger bags look absurdly large on me, but somehow the small not only looks normal, but can accommodate my 16" laptop in a pinch.
The Napoleon pocket is really perfect for stuff you need constantly but is relatively hidden
Internal organization strikes an excellent balance- things don't just get lost one big pocket but you aren't searching multitudes of pockets either.
The compression is simple, works well and the top compression strap is a nice touch. There are a lot of times I need to get something out of the main pocket while moving or standing the train but can't get the buckles done right away so having that top strap helps keep it together.
Nice long key leash
Simple, easy strap system. Being able to hitch the bag up tight and wear it on my chest like a sling is always helpful on crowded trains.
Cons, or rather things to look out for
for "flight" messenger a luggage handle passthrough on the back would be really nice.
Only the pocket on the inside is padded for the laptop compartment, so I'd recommend a case or some kind of additional padding in the back
the velcro does eventually start to wear on the nylon webbing and zipper for the key pocket, making it kind of fuzzy. I recommend at least taping that zipper pull all the way to the end with electrical tape and/or covering the velcro strips
Finally I just wish they offered the variety of color ways in the flight messenger that they do in the classic messenger.

I bought 2. One for myself and one as a Christmas gift. We are both long time cyclists. I am a small business owner and my friend is in IT. We both knew the name and reputation of Timbuk 2. Neither of us get many chances to commute, but when we do we are really happy on the comfort and positioning of the bag. Great for carrying an iPad or laptop. Storage is maximized while the bag still stays compact. Couldn't be happier.

This is the first bag I’ve ever bought by Timbuk2 and I love it! It fits everything I want to carry around and feels so well made. I’ll definitely be buying more in the future! I also absolutely love the color! It’s a really nice deep gray. I would definitely recommend it.

Good bag. Use to take my laptop and folders back and forth from home and office. More purple on the interior lining than I saw on the photos. Has a lot of useful pockets.

Great product. Zippers are sturdy. Lots of room for everything I need. The most important thing is the way it hangs on my shoulder. I'm not a fan of the crossover so I just hang it on my right shoulder and it's great. Doesn't slide off like all of my other bags.

Great little bag! Not as stiff and bulky as the other messenger but still very durable.

I can't really see much difference between the 2018 Classic XS and the 2020 Flight XS I just got.
On the specs page they are both 1 lb, and that feels about right to me.
Good news is, the "slimming down" program really works on both the Classic and the Flight and the result is an excellent bag to keep at your seat during a flight and to use EDC at your destination. If it takes a re-naming to make the point that Timbuk2 Messengers aren't the bulky, heavy, overly complicated bags they became for a while, I'm ok with that. (There are still plenty of pockets to stash things.)
The XS edition is on the small side, viewed as a messenger bag, but it's on the "perfect" side if, like me, a "sling" bag would be too small (remember the Flight can be worn high and front just like a sling).
Organization features are well thought out, there are two phone sized drop in slots in the main compartment which are open at the top for easy access, with a full width zippered slot behind them, for valuables (cash, hotel vouchers, e-ticket, passport). I prefer this interior zippered slot vs. the "Napoleon" side access slot on the Small and up editions - extra security trumps quicker access for me.
The interior body-side panel iPad slot rocks even though only padded on the interior side - I'd rather use an accessory cover case, or even accessory keyboard cover case, than permanently bulk up the bag and waste space for built-in padding. A 10.2-10.5-11 iPad in cover case fits with room to spare. I also tested 9.7 with keyboard cover case and there is lots of side space and thickness left. The tablet slot also works well to stow my DMV registration and other papers.
Finally, there's an interior mesh bottle slot at one end and an interior solid slot at the other. I use the sold end slot to hold a pocket knife and parking meter coins (in an upright pouch).

I've used a Timbuk2 messenger bag for the last ten years or so. For the most part I used it as a daily work bag for transporting my laptop and books around, but I've occasionally used it during seasons when I've committed to bike commuting more. It always served me great, but after upgrading to a smaller computer recently, I wanted a slightly less bulky bag.
Enter the Flight Messenge. I purchased a size small, and I LOVE how much more streamlined it is than my old bag. It's a definite upgrade. The construction is phenomenal (per usual with Timbuk2), the features will lend themselves well to when I eventually start bike commuting again, and it's got just the right amount of pockets and organizing features to give me what I need in terms of storage and organization. To be honest, I almost like it more than the new computer I bought it for. As always, great work, Timbuk2!

I really like this bag. It is still new, but it holds my Surface Pro, cord and mouse in the back compartment and then all my usual "purse" stuff like wallet, calendar, masks, and much more in the other pocket. My only problem is that I wish the strap was a little bit longer. I like how easily it adjusts though. Looking forward to using this bag a lot more.

Bought this for work since I now go back and forth from home and office with a lot of papers and my laptop. It's gorgeous, sturdy and jam packed with pockets for everything. The velcro/buckles are cumbersome to open but I can overlook that knowing everything is secure in the bag. Love it!

Super happy with this bag. I wanted a casual messenger bag that I could use every day to replace my purse. Has a lot of pockets, it's light and a great material. I didn't see this mentioned but the inside is a neon yellowish color that I absolutely love. I only wish there were a small pocket on the backside because I'm used to tossing my phone there, but I'll get used to it. Would definitely repurchase in other colors.

I am 5'4 women and this bag does not look huge on me. I bought the medium. Not a lot of pockets but the right amount which is what I wanted. Sometimes too many pockets is a bad thing. Love the yellow.

I use this bag for work and the small fits everything I need for my wine sales job. I loved it so much I bought a medium to use as an overnight bag. The shoulder strap is so comfortable and the bag is incredibly attractive. Love, love, love!

I have been using this bag a little over a week and so far I like it a lot. I switched from a messenger bag I had for about two years to this bag, and although I carry the same amount of items in this beg, it seems much lighter than my previous messenger bag. The compartments are well placed for storage and I like the color (I purchased the dark gray/blue color with the red accents and clips).

First of all i love the color thats the very first thing that caught my eye, then its light weight but can house my ipad which makes it more wonderful because i carry my ipad everywhere i go. When the bag came i fell in love more because of the size and it has lots of pockets that you dont have to worry about organizing your stuff, that your things wont juggle inside. It also has a strap to keep the bag in shape and your things tight.
