I like the bag, but the web site says a cross strap comes on the small size. It does Not have one. I had to rig up something myself to keep this messenger bag in place while I am riding on my bicycle. Very disappointing for the cost invested.

Love this bag. Love the color and the strap, but the Velcro is EXTREMELY loud. I feel like I am waking up my neighbors when I open my bag. Definitely good quality but I could do without that.

This bag feels like it would be great if it was the next size up. Seems like they kept all of the features of the larger sizes and just shrunk everything down, which didn't translate well in this XS size. For example, it has two "water bottle" pockets in the main compartment, yet they don't fit any of my water bottles, even the smallest ones. Also the bag is too short to fit a water bottle standing up in the bag, even if it did fit in the pocket. This bag feels like it's not sure if it wants to be a messenger bag or a small purse. If I'm going to carry a bag this size, I want to be able to carry my water bottle, notebook, small knitting project, wallet, keys, and my smalle zip pouch of personal items. I can fit all of these items in this bag, but it's a squeeze.
As with other Timbuk2 bags, I don't like the loud velcro. Opening up my bag in a movie theater or during a meeting is very disruptive. There's not an option to have the bag closed without securing the velcro closure. The latch on the strap made it easy to change the length of the should strap, but it also came undone easily too.
But there are good things about the bag. It's well made and durable. It's easy to carry over the shoulder or across my body, and comfortable to wear. I like the divider in the main compartment which keeps my book/iPad/notebooks separate from the rest of my items. The grab strap on the top of the outside of the bag is useful for quickly picking up the bag and moving it, but the interior strap is not useful and not a balanced way to pick up the bag. Would like some internal pen/pencil pockets, instead of them floating around a pocket that's too large.
I have other more practical bags this size so won't be keeping it. Might have liked it more if it didn't have so many internal pockets that are mostly too small to be useful. I'd be interested in the next size up of this bag though.

One of the lower clasps straps keeps sticking to the velcro so I have to keep pulling it off, and it has become shredded.

The laptop sleeve is awful - floppy and gets in the way. Since all the pockets and storage are in the front it pulls down in the front area which makes it hard to manage. I do like the stowaway pocket for your phone, and the material is very lightweight and high quality. The size is too big to be a daily purse type bag but was too small for my commute, which is what I needed it for. I wanted to love it but it's just not super intuitive.

I love this bag. The only thing i would change is not having velcro on the inside of the flap. With some items making bag bigger or just by accident. The loop excess sometimes get stuck on velcro and makes the straps look like a mess.

I really wanted to love this bag, but it wasn't meant to be. First, I could not figure out why there was a strap inside it from front to back, nor could I figure out how to unclip it. The shoulder strap is waaaaay too short. With a winter coat on, it hung under my armpit at full extension (and I'm not a very large person, nor is my coat extra bulky), so getting into the bag was frustrating. I'd prefer that the key clip was on the actual inside of the bag, and not in the tiny front compartment. With gigantic key fobs, my keys won't fit in that tiny pouch. I own about 5 Timbuk2 bags, and by far my most favorite is the (now) discontinued Metro. I was hoping that this would be a slightly larger version of that... but it is not. I will be donating it to charity in hopes that someone will love it. In case you are wondering why I'm not returning it... in a fit of frustration I cut that internal strap thing off hoping that would help open the bag up more.

While the bag received is lovely and well-made, its (permanently attached , both ends) shoulder strap is far too short to allow comfortable carrying. Mine hangs just 6" below my armpit when on my shoulder, and other tan cutting it and sewing in an extension, is useless to me.

I'm a professional illustrator on the eternal hunt for the ideal sketch book bag.
I want to carry an 8.5x11 sketchbook, an iPad Pro, and my pencil bag. Simple.
This bag is sooooo close to perfect to carry those things. They all fit in the front slot, but it would be nice if one fit in the back slotit's not wide enough.
This is a Timbuk2 bag, so the quality and materials are second to none. I have two larger bags and love the brand.
Where this bag epically fails me is the length of the strap.
I'm 6'3. I'd like to wear this crossbody.
Nope. It sits mid torso. Not comfortable and looks ridiculous.
If you're under 5'10" this bag is probably perfect for you.
For me, though, I'll continue my hunt for the perfect sketch bag.

I realize the bag is "extra small" -- but the strap is also extra short. I'm 5'11" and, with the strap fully extended, the bottom of the bag sits at about my belt. I have no idea who would need to adjust the strap to be smaller. Not only do I think the strap should should be longer at it's maximum length, they should also list the length on the product description.

The rear compartment is nearly inaccessible once two or three items have been placed in the front compartment. The shoulder pad slides around during use and is unusable. After less than six months, one seam has come undone and the bag has a hole.

I've been using my current commuter Timbuk2 messenger bag with really great features that seem to have been discontinued in all of the current bags for well over 10 years. Just only in the last year or so, the waterproof lining started flaking off to a point where it's in the crevice of everything I carry, so I thought now might be a time to get a new bag. I was really impressed with the quality of their bags so I gave no second thought and ordered the lightweight messenger bag in medium.
A few points:
- Perhaps the catch is that it's lightweight, but with my laptop and notebooks, the material of the bag is not at all firm enough to stand on its own unlike my old timbuk2 bag. Compared to the previous version, I am shocked to see how flexible this material is -- it is light but far too flexible/flimsy in its shape for me. Wish this was better shown in the video or in the description before I purchased this.
- Laptop compartment does not have a flap on the top to work as a closure, so with the more flexible material, it just all hangs out there wide open in the bag. I loved that things used to held to their place in this bag, what happened here?
- Strike two on the laptop compartment: there is no cushion at all for laptops in this bag on the back. I'm not sure why this was ever removed from the design, but this is a major flaw for me.
- I love the new (to me) water bottle holder inside the bag to keep it from rolling around.
- Strap adjustment mechanism has been updated and it is smaller in size than previously and I think is great
Long story short, I am incredibly disappointed and already have the bag wrapped up and ready to be dropped off for return. Rather frustrated that I'm not having to pay the shipping cost to return this bag.
I can see how this could be great for a smaller size, but if you're looking for a commuter bag that you don't carry your laptop/tablets, this would be a great bag. Otherwise, suggest you consider other options...

I really like the look and size of this bag but it is not truly a messenger bag. The strap doesn't extend therefore it is impossible to wear it crossbody. I am really disappointed.

This is a pocket. If you travel with anything more than a toothpick and a pencil, do not get this bag. Its practically a coin purse. No space at all!! The pockets are perfect size for the hands of children ages 0-6. Trust me and dont make the same mistake I did, if you need a bag, buy an actual bag.

I hate this bag. I say this as a 20 year Timbuk2 messenger bag carrier. Ever since college, I have ONLY used Timbuk2 messenger bags. I loved how roomy they were and how no matter how much stuff I crammed in them, there was always room for more.
I had my last bag for a little over 5 years. Even though it was still useable and in good shape (reason #2 why I keep buying Timbuk2 bags; they last!) it was time for a refresh. I went to the store in Hayes Valley SF to pick out a new bag, only to learn that the bag I usually get only comes in black (meh) or gray (boring!). Sure, I could have spent twice as much money to design my own and wait several weeks to get one that was more colorful (reason #3 why I typically like Timbuk2 bags, they come in good colors!). But I was really hoping to walk out of the store with a fresh new bag and take it on my work trip I was leaving for the next day. The store clerk then drew my attention to the new Flight bags. While these new bags ticked a couple of the boxes (good colors, same sturdy construction) the largest size these bags come in is a medium. I usually use a large bag. But I decided to give it a go, and figured I could reduce the amount of stuff I normally carry to make it work.
I didn't work. Not even close. After putting my laptop in, along with power cords, a note book, a few pens, biz cards, and a few tools I need to carry for work, there was hardly any room left for anything else. I tried stuffing in a light jacket (something any San Franciscan or traveler carries around,) I couldn't even properly close the flap over the bag. This is a bit of a problem because I still had plenty of things form my REDUCED cargo I sill needed to fit into this bag. Never again will I be able to pack gym clothes during the week, never again will I be able to pack groceries so I can bike home from the store.
Unfortunately ticking 2 of 3 boxes isn't going to cut it, especially when the most important box is left unchecked.
