I tried 6 pairs of similar boots (Vasque, Scarpa, Merrells, other Salomons) and decided these suited me best. They fit my foot well (narrow heel, bunions, and arthritic big toe). They flex at the toe, and they fit both my 3/4 length orthotics AND the shoe liner/insert that comes with the boot; even with all that in the shoe, they provide good heel cup security, which is stable and deep. The cushioning around the ankle is good too. They are light, comfy, easy to lace up, and have good tread. I also appreciate they are ventilated: Southern CA trails can be HOT. They're good for day hikes without a pack that contains much more than a big bottle of water, snack, and sunscreen.

68 years ago I had polio in my right leg. This spring my left leg decided it had had quite enough of doing far more than its fair share. However, if I wear my X Ultra Salomon hiking book my left leg is nearly pain free, is far more comfortable, and has decided to keep on trekking! Probably this review is not the typical review! (I own 2 pairs so that I can switch between the two.)

Bought these for my wife, sight unseen. She took them out of the box, put on some thin liner socks, and put in a 20 mile day in the hills outside of El Paso. No blisters, hot spots, or rub marks. It's getting tough to find light hikers without Gore-tex anymore, so these are perfect for hot, dry weather hikes. Chose Salomon based on previous experiences with their trail running shoes. And...the color is cute, too!

Habe eher breite Fe, Gre 40, hier passt Grsse 40 2/3 perfekt.

I really wanted to like these shoes. However, they were too narrow for my feet and the shoe also was uncomfortable upon standing. Also the top, quick speed lace holders jutted out far; I was afraid they were going to catch on each other.
I'd also recommend:

Loved the hiking boots but a smidge too small. They looked great and so attractive. I am 5'2" and 110 pounds and they didn't look clumpy on my feet. Had to return them because they were too small and Zappos didn't have a half size larger in stock. Will wait since I loved the look and the color.

These are the first pair of hiking boots that I have ever owned so I don't have anything with which to compare; however, these make such a difference when hiking up rocky terrain. Even better was coming down where my knees usually bother me, and I have to take it slow. Not anymore! Additionally, they're super light.

These hiking shoes are absolutely outstanding. They protect the ankle and sole very solidly while still feeling lightweight. They have stood up through swamp (though not waterproof, they dry quickly), desert, forest, and mountain conditions like a champ! I have high arches, and putting in an insole did the trick without making the shoe too tight.

I've been hiking in these boots now for over a month and have got well over 100 miles of experience with them. This is at least my third pair of this style of boot from Salomon and I've not had problems until I started wearing this version. It seems that the latest version of this boot is cut more narrowly than past versions. My toes keep getting squished, especially on steep descents, and it seems that it's not because the length of the boot is too short it's because the toe box is more narrow. I'll add that I also have the latest Goretex version of this boot and don't have problems with squished toes in them. I don't want waterproof boots in the summer because my feet sweat too much. What I do like about this boot is that the tread is a little more robust and grips better on scrabbly trails which is the norm here in the summer. So I'll be trying the men's version of this boot and if those don't work then I'll have to try other brands. Too bad, I've been happy hiking in Salomon for years. I'm also giving lower marks because they only give you one choice of color which I don't find to be particularly attractive.

These are the best hiking boots I have owned. I still used them, even though they need to be replaced.

These boots have served beautifully under hot, humid hiking conditions these past few months. When these wear out, I'll buy this style again for warm weather hiking. Note, to maximize breathability, the shoe is not waterproof.

I've been wearing these boots for 3.5 years now and I'm really happy with them. I live in California, and while it doesn't get really cold here in the winter it does rain and all the trails get muddy and wet, so I change into a goretex shoe for the winter time but this is my all-time favorite dry weather shoe, a perfect combination of a trail runner's light weight and a boot's ankle support. And did I mention how insanely comfortable they are right out of the box? Zero blisters, zero hotspots, zero discomfort. I went backcountry trekking in these shoes on three continents for a couple of weeks each time, wearing a 50 pound pack and they held up great - I noticed a tear in the fabric a week ago but hey, what's one small hole over 3.5 summers of backpacking? I'd happily buy another pair if it comes out in a color I like (mine are dark teal/mallard duck color, and it's beautiful)

One month into warm-weather hiking season on the south, I've been thrilled with these boots. I ordered my usual athletic shoe size, and at first worried about a bit too much extra room in the toe box; however, they've been perfect. My foot doesn't move around within the boot when I'm hiking. I have a narrow foot, and I replaced the insert for a high-arch orthotic. These boots are so comfortable!

This is the second pair I've bought. Salamons tend to fit my duck feet nicely. These seem slightly bigger than the last pair, but overall still true to size. Hiking is my happy place, and these have a nice blend of durability, support and comfort.

These are very comfortable. My heel feels snug and supported and I was able to walk 5 miles immediately with no rubbing or irritations. The fact that I could walk so far straight out of the box and feel comfortable the entire way was remarkable. The only thing I'm not in love with is the laces - they are thin so double knotting is needed to keep them tied the whole time.

These are really good boots . Very nice looking , very well made . Good support and great cushioning . Two small issues- the left boot rubbed a bit on the top of my foot where a seam was ( might be the way my foot is shaped - no issue with the right ) and , Since these shoes are very breathable - they also let a lot of sand in while hiking . We hiked about ten miles and i had to stop and empty them four times . But the overall comfort and durability was worth it . No need for breaking in . Good purchase .

Felt like my foot and ankle were completely protected and secured. Fantastic in snow and icy conditions. Like my foot was sucked into pillows. Love them!
