I usually wear a 7.5 and sized up to an 8 for these boots. The 8 fits perfectly. This is the second pair of Ahnu's that I have bought, and the first made by Teva. It's only been a few weeks, but I have no problems with them. My other pair was pretty worn, so these feel very supportive.

This pair was very stylish and a great color. I wanted to keep them. However they have a sole that was stiffer than I wanted. Returned them. God Bless you Zappos!

I've been wearing the Montara for years, so a couple of years ago I made the risky decision to purchase new boots on the way to a backpacking adventure in Mineral King, Sequoia National Park. After more that twenty miles my feet felt great, not a single blister. The toe box is spacious without looking bulbous, and the collar supports my ankles without digging in when the laces are firmly tied. Why the 4 rating? ...the sole wears out a little too quickly; however, I wear these boots 6 days a week, 12-14 hours a day without fail.

I would go barefoot at work if it was allowed. But since it's not, I had to find a shoe that could withstand long days on my feet. I loved the Teva sandal--it nearly eliminated my daily lower back pain at work. So I decided to purchase the Teva boot to see if it did the same. So far so good! Like the overall look but wish the toe was more rounded than pointed. Boot was a bit pricey, too.

This is a hiking boot, I personally only wear hiking boots when hiking.

Bought these and love the color. Unfortunately, they were too wide, even when I went down from a 6 (my normal size) to a 5.5. Too loose in the heel, even when tightened down. Perhaps good for someone with slightly wide feet.

Really wanted to like this boot. The blue spell color was so cute and they looked cute on, but they really were not comfortable for me. I have a bony foot and need more padding and cushion. Ended up with Keen Terradora.

I had to go up a half-size to get these larger than my last Anhu boots - and they feel great (now). These are perfect light-weight day hikers for 4-6 hours, they perform well in both rocky and muddy terrain, on mid-level challenging trails.

Sturdy, rugged-looking boot. I'm sure they would hold up to most hiking conditions. But they don't have enough arch support for me, and are uncomfortably stiff just walking around my house so I am returning them.

These boots don’t even compare to Ahnu boots. It’s too bad, so I’m returning them

I ordered an 8.5 the size and width were just a bit big. The biggest problem was I had about an inch of space between my foot and the heel. I tried bigger socks and had to make the decision that the shoes were just to big for me. I was so disappointed. The shoe is beautiful. Loved everything else about it, support, color and style were excellent.

Had the prior model of this same boot. I am not nearly as pleased with its replacement. The quality seems a bit less and the toe area has a lot of space above the foot, it is very wide in the standard size. The comfort level does seem to be consistent however!

I have owned two pairs of the Montara's - both from when Ahnu was making this shoe. Both were a size 8.5. The first pair seemed fine until I took them on the first outing. I noticed one foot had the toes hitting the front of the shoe, but the other was fine. I tried stretching them without any luck. Since they were comfortable in all other ways I decided to just eat the loss and try another pair in a size 9. WAY to big. Tried those in an 8.5 and they turned into my current boots. Been using them for a couple of years. Pretty light usage. Wanted to get another pair so decided to try a size 9. The Teva version is definitely different than the Ahnu version. The upper is stiffer and doesn't feel like the old leather. The size 9 was HUGE. So back they went. I LOVE Zappos, but their usage / return policy makes choosing a hiking boot difficult. You can't really know how it's going to perform unless you actually take it on some kind of hike. Regretfully I might need to try that other merchant which will let you return used boots if they don't work.

I was initially happy with my purchase; however, as I went on more hikes and for longer/steeper distances...these did not provide the comfort I needed. We climbed Mt. St. Helens and I wore these...experiencing blisters with these boots already broke in and the waterproofing did not hold up with glisading back down the mountain. These boots are fine for more casual hikes, but if you're going for longer miles and a more strenuous hike...I wouldn't recommend. I'm disappointed because for the cost, these boots should be able to withstand the elements of hiking if they're truly considered "hiking boots". I had these for less than a year, so I'm bummed I spent that much money on these boots and am already looking for a new pair. I would recommend this boot only for casual hiking/short distances and gradual elevation gains.

After a severe break to my foot healed I was told to wear a stiff-soled hiking boot for continued protection. The first pair (different brand) I had was a little clunky-looking and the sole cracked after 16 months. I looked for a replacement boot and after trying several, bought a pair of Ahnu Montara boots - the boot was a bit higher above my ankle than I wanted but felt better on my foot than some of the others. Unfortunately, waterproofing wore off after only 7 months of wear. I still wear them and they feel okay, but even a heavy dew will soak through after crossing the yard to refill bird feeders (less than 200'). Looks like I'll be shopping for a different brand to get me through the winter because I can't afford to pay high price for a shoe that only lasts a few months. If you live in a dry climate, these would be great, but not in rainy, snowy, muddy locales.

I loved that the design made my size 10 boots not look clunky and huge. Looked like an old time hiking boot. Loved the brown with forest green accents. Sadly, in less than a year of fairly light duty, they are cracked and they leak. They cracked where the boot bends - at base of toes. Also tip of toe came unglued. Everything else is still in good shape. Should have lasted 3 years. Will not buy again. Scares me away from the brand. Can you make them out of fabric rather than leather/faux leather - then, maybe I'd try them again.

I got my boots in March of this year and the sole of both shoes started falling off after a few months of wearing them. The stitching on the sides of both shoes has come undone. I do a lot of climbing, cleaning, and walking as a zookeeper and these shoes just weren't up to the job. They are extremely comfortable but I won't be buying them again due to how fast they fell apart

I would love to like these boots as they are attractive and have good support BUT you cannot tie them tightly. They have a major design flaw in that the laces pull through metal loops and keep slipping if you try to tie them tightly (as you need to do when hiking). There is no way to tie them tightly. Had to send them back.

I give 2 stars because the boots are light and they were ok in the beginning, this is my second pair from ahnu. The first one was a higher boot and holds better in the snow, but these ones, after one season, not so much! which is why I am so disappointed! All I want is a good waterproof boot that keeps my feet dry on trails! I got sick from hiking back 5 miles all wet in them on the way back two days ago, not fun! I used to recommend this brand to everyone , now I feel bad for doing it!

I have purchased 3 of the original Montara hiking boots and have loved them, but not this new version. The size is not true, the toe box is too wide, the boot needs a pull strap on the back and the tounge is too low. there really is no cushion for the foot. I have been wearing my old ones because they still feel better on my feet than this new version. I now have to find a different boot which is a shame considering the cost of these, I have only had them 25 days and hate them..

Was disappointed in this purchase for how much money I spent. Wore on smaller day hikes and the boots were just fine, not much discomfort and good traction, however I brought these on a longer expedition and was disappointed when after the first day both of my ankles got horrible blisters. I had on nice wool hiking socks and still the padding was not enough. The transition in the back has almost no padding making them rub awful when making steep inclines. I would not recommend if your looking for reliable to take you deep into the mountains! Save your money and purchase elsewhere.

I have owned 7 pairs of Ahnu Montara hiking boots, buying a new pair every year -- It's the best boot I've ever owned. Lightweight, snug and supportive, and attractive. But the NEW Teva version of the Ahnu Montara is sloppy in the toe box -- so sloppy that lacing the boot as tight as possible still doesn't bring the boot in around the foot enough to provide adequate support. There is no pull loop at the back of the boot, top of the "counter," and the new color schemes are not as classically tasteful as the original Ahnu.
