This shoe, though max cushioned, is a nimble fast shoe. It is lacking in durability and wears as fast as my Hokas. My biggest complaint is that the tongue is not padded. Over time and on long runs this starts to hurt the top of my foot. With a padded tongue and a more durable shoe this would be a much better product and an exceptional shoe.

I like the additional support and forefoot cushioning and lightness of the shoe. The upper ripped on both shoes after only a few months running. Also the shoes seemed to loosen up a touch so it became very roomy. If they fixed the durability I would buy again

I have been wearing various Altra shoes for the last 18 months. I started with a pair of Altra TIMP which I loved. I used them for their designed purpose as well as everyday walking and life. I currently have retired that pair to mowing grass etc and have bought a second pair. I bought the Duo during the cyber Monday sale this past Christmas season thinking I would enjoy a cushioned ride while working on some street miles.
The ride quality is pretty good and I enjoy the cushion level. My foot seems to float along with each step. However, I am not a big fan of the lacing (midline) nor the fact that the insole is ~1/4 short for the actual shoe and slides at times.
MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THE QUALITY OF THE UPPER MATERIAL. WITH LESS THAN 100 MILES THE MEDIAL SIDE OF THE SHOE ALONG MY METATARSAL HEAD STARTED TO RIP OPEN. THE LATERAL SIDES STARTED TO RIP A WEEK OR SO AFTER THE MEDIAL SIDE STARTED.
I will post a picture below. I hope that Altra corrects some of the quality issues and design in the next rendition of this shoe as I think it does have potential. I have advised my patient's that I treat at this time to steer clear of this model at this time, but to consider the Timp or the Instinct 4.5 (my wife loves this shoe).

The shoes look nice, but they fell apart within 8 weeks. They were my son's school shoes - did not play outside in them. He just wore them to school and within 6 weeks, there were holes in the sides of the shoes, and 2 weeks after that they completely fell apart. These shoes were expensive and were a total waste of money.

Felt good walking around the house with it on but I hated running in it. Sizing is good. Toe box is great. Suppose to be the same stack height as the Paradigm bit I felt very little cushioning. It slapped the ground loudly compared to the Paradigm as well. It picked up lots of pebbles which made it even louder.
This one is a NO.

I wanted to enjoy these shoes. The toe box is great and I really like the extra cushion without the extra weight. The arches don't seem to line up with my feet and cause friction when walking or running. As the many other reviews stated these shoes ran short, I tried my usual size and a half size smaller. The smaller size was too small (toes touched the end of the shoes) and the normal size isn't comfortable. Such a bummer as the creative design of having a super light shoe with the extra cushion is really nice. Just wish it felt good while wearing.

Shoe fit well and had plenty of room in toe box. Shoe was cheaply made as it started coming apart around 100 miles of running. I typically get 200 to 300 miles out of a pair of Asics and Brooks.

I've run in Altras since the Instinct 1.0. I was looking for something similar to the Torin, with nice padding but lighter. I should have returned them in the first 30 days as Altra has a nice return policy but I was trying to be patient with the Duo. I never did get accustomed to them. I went back to the Escalante (and don't regret it)

Firstly, I love Altra, so I forgive you. It appears they have tried to cut so much weight out of the shoe they dropped all the quality as well. Both shoes, inside uppers near the toe have torn and the right shoe feels like I am walking on a rock.

For sizing they run wide in the toebox, which is pretty much required by the zero-drop style to allow your forefoot to spread while you run. The rest of the shoe runs ever so slightly on the wider side, but not outside the range of normal shoe widths (about like a New Balance width).
Other reviewers have said they run small, but they definitely don't. The wide toebox may make it seem like it, but for length they're exactly as expected by size, and the interior padding makes it clear that your foot probably isn't seated correctly if you believe they aren't true to size.
I ended up returning these partially because I tried to take others' advice and ordered up half a size, but largely the deciding factor was the very low quality material the tops were made of. It's plasticy where it's not mesh, and when you flex forward onto the balls of your feet like you would during a run, the material folds and jams into the top of your foot. While the material on top will definitely breath thru the extensive plasticy mesh well, the non-mesh parts are likely to break down quickly from flexing.

To preface, I do not wear these to run (that's what my Escalante's are for!), I wear them as everyday shoes, as I do a lot of walking; and although these are very comfortable shoes, the quality just isn't there. I do wear these shoes everyday, and about 1 month in, the upper on the right shoe has a tear, (where my big toe is), at least 1 inch long. Two weeks later, the upper on the left shoe now has a tear. I also want to mention that the sole of these shoes has worn out fairly quickly. I have tried several different models of Altra over the last several years, all very comfortable, and never had a problem with the upper tearing. I do have to say that on some of these shoes, however, such as the Torin, Instinct, Solstice, and Lone Peak, the sole's just do not last. I really hope Altra can pay more attention to the quality going forward.

I tried them a few times after using escalates and finding them not enough for longer runs.
I though the duos were great so ordered a second pair. After a while I have found a few issues:
They pickup rocks like crazy.
The back is way too high for me and digs into and irritates my Achilles.
The sound like and kinda feel like I'm running on suction cups.
I switched shoes for a run a couple days ago and it felt and recorded as faster. I still like my escalates (need new pinks!!) and hope maybe another kind works out better.

After 80 miles the show on the upper right side had a long cut, to soft uper part in my opinion as it never happened to me and running for 10+ years with different models. Beside that the show was GREAT and the 80 miles I was able to run where really special and good.

Light and feels pretty good after the warm up. First Altra I have owned that I couldnt wait to take off or dreaded putting on. Interestingly though, once I started running they feel pretty good. I am glad I that I have had Altras before because this shoe would have kept me from getting anymore. The right upper is starting to rip at the inside fold for toes. Upper is really lightweight and breathable but doesnt seem very durable.

I was super happy with these shoes until the upper came off from the sole. I have less than 100 miles in these shoes. Super light and fast shoes, very poor quality.

The Good: This shoe is extremely light. Altra has done a nice job of shaving every ounce of weight out of the upper, and even the outsole. Unfortunately, that's about where the good ends with this shoe.
The Bad: The upper is so minimalistic that it offers a very uncomfortable ride. The area around the opening rubs on the foot, and this is the first shoe I've ever owned that created blisters on the back of my foot where the top of the shoe meets above the heel. In addition, the sole is a rock magnet - even in only a few miles on normal and mostly clear roads, I pick up 5-6 rocks in each shoe every time I go out, leading to an annoying clicking sound every time my foot hits the ground. The engineered mesh upper is also fairly stiff, which leads to uncomfortable and unattractive bunching at the forefoot when the laces are tightened.
If this all sounds like I'm nitpicking, I am. I've come to have high expectations from Altra, and have owned 9 pairs of Altra running shoes. This, unfortunately, is my least favorite pair. I ended up returning them to Fleet Feet after about 50 miles in them. An important lesson for me is that there truly is no "do everything" shoe as this is billed...I'll stick to separate shoes for training and racing.

I have the Escalante and the Lone Peak 3.5 and love them both. I bought a pair of these at my local Fleet Feet store and used them for about two weeks and returned them.
The 3 things that I did not like was the sole as it flexed oddly to me and didn't feel like other Altra shoes. The second thing I didn't like were the laces and eyelets, they tended to bind and create pressure points and the third item was the tongue as it tended to fold over on the sides. In short, they don't feel like Altras.
I have since bought a pair of Torins which I am very happy with. Thank you for allowing consumers to return products, making great shoes and allowing us to leave feedback.

I have only averaged ~1400 miles per year the last few years, but it's still enough to burn through 3-4 pairs of shoes per year. >90% of my miles the last 4 years have been in Altras. 4 different Torins, 3 Escalantes, Ones, 5 trail shoes, and I tried the Duo this last year. I my toes went sideways through the upper in a few runs on one side and through the other a few runs after that. It wasn't getting worse, so I kept going with it. More tears kept happening. They also fit nearly a full size too large. I had to wear my thickest socks and had nearly an extra foot of shoelace that I had to cut down with the eyelets just about touching each other when lace up. I get that they don't have the 'soft' feel of other shoes and it's because they are supposed to have more energy return and go faster. They just seemed uncomfortable. They were unstable (Most Altra shoes are a bit loosey goosey off camber, but these were worse). They were heavier than any of my Escalantes, so I just went back to those. The Duos are the only Altra shoes that I threw in the garbage under 200 miles. I normally get 500+ out of any of the road shoes. The original Ones were the only others I didn't get along with because they fit too big and loose and caused blisters on the medial side of the arch , but it wasn't a quality issue.
It's the first Altra shoe that I have even wanted my money back for.

These shoes were disappointing. The fit is ok, maybe a little less volume in the toe box than a normal Altra, and I also had to go down a size from my normal Altra sizing. This shoe really fails in durability. I have 90 miles on the shoes and both uppers are separating from the sole on the inner and outer portion of the toe box. The shoes are still usable for the most part, but 90 miles is pretty sad to already have breakdown. The right shoe has also started to make a "suction cup" type sound on every foot strike. Otherwise, these shoes performed fairly well. Definitely a solid level of cushion, and as always the zero-drop platform is a good choice for my running style. overall I wouldn't buy these shoes again until Altra dresses its recent durability issues

I really loved the lightweight feel of the shoe and the Altra toe box was great for someone who perpetually suffers from "black toe". I purchased this shoe just before being diagnosed with a stress fracture so my initial mileage in these shoes was very minimal. However, after two months the shoes ripped on the side (like many other reviewers have described). I really felt cheated by Altra because expensive running shoes should have lasted more than two months. This was a very disappointing experience.

I had high hopes for these Altra shoes but was left disappointed. I hope that someone at Altra is reading the reviews and realizes they have quality issues. (When I first tried Altra shoes in 2016, and my first pair was the Provision 2.5. They were well made and held up, in fact, I still have them even though they are about to be tossed out.)
These shoes however, sadly, are poorly made. I can't believe how much the quality of Altra shoes have gone down. I don't know what has happened. Perhaps they have another shoe company in China making their shoes but the quality has definitely gone down, which is sad. I recently ordered the Torin 4 Plush and they too had to be sent back because the quality just wasn't there for the cost.
The pro's about these shoes is they look nice, even the images here on Zappos shows a very nice looking shoe. I like the wide toe box on Altra shoes and on these the thicker sole but that is where it ends for these. Truly, they just seem cheaply made with inferior materials. They reminded me of those $20 shoes that you can get at one of those big chain stores, you know, that W store that was started by Sam.
These shoes have very thin uppers with no padding at all and the tongue is the thinnest I have ever seen on a pair of Altra shoes. The material on the upper part is a rough material. I personally like to try on shoes barefooted, (don't worry, I wash my feet) to get a feel of the shoe since I do wear shoes sometimes barefooted. The upper material on the inside of these shoes was rough against the bare skin of the foot. So, definitely these shoes could not be worn without socks. As I wore them, the insole felt uncomfortable to the bottom of my feet. I removed the inserts, and low and behold, the insole with the inserts removed showed a bumpy and wavy insole. I couldn't believe that Altra was putting out these kind of shoes with such poor quality. View the pictures, it was more noticeable on the left shoe. These too went back. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
As always, Zappos does an excellent job of making ordering and returns easy. I also like the quick service of getting the shoes after ordering. I hope you folks at Zappos never forget your customer service! Thanks!

This shoe rides too high on the heel. It caused blisters on the sides of my ankles.... 4 in the precise locations of where the left and right heel support points.
Never had this happen from Altra before or any running shoe.

If you buy these shoes I hope you like an incessant clicking noise coming from your shoes. I had hoped that after a break in period that it would stop. Sadly no it kept on clicking. The areas on the shoe where the clicks originate from has already developed a hole after 2 months. A definite DO NOT BUY!!
