I have loved other Altra shoes and was so excited to have a stylish boot. Upon arrival and trying them on, the dorsal area (top of my foot) is too high and causes my whole mid-foot to be way too tight in the boot, it restricts circulation. The toe box is great but the shoe puts too much tightness the middle/upper part of my foot.

I was really pleased with the way they look. Unfortunately they do not fit. The length is good but the width is very tight. I think I would like these if they had a little more room inside.

I wear a 13 in the paradeim. Tried a 13 in the smith boot. Too small. Tried the 14. Very large. Not sure what to do here. The shoes themselves are very comfortable. But the size problem makes them hard to wear.

I recently bought these. I already own the desert boot and really like them. However, I was looking for something I could wear to the office. These aren't as comfy as my desert boots, the soles are different. They also have that "clown shoe" vibe that is a common problem with natural shaped shoes. The white soles emphasize the fact you are not wearing a pair of oxfords - like you are supposed to. Black soles, and the external appearance of an arch would dress these up a lot.
I will keep them for casual wear, but keep looking for truly dressy, comfortable shoes.

I really wanted these to work, but they are just too narrow. Not the same width I experience in the running shoes.

Unless they are about to be discontinued... which will really suck.

I have a wide foot and these are very tight across the top of my foot where the laces are. I had to return them.

You could just say "Hey, you must just have wide feet!" Yes I do. But, the shoe is way to big in the middle of my foot and absolutely crammed at the toes. It causes Achilles pain and it makes my big toe snap and crack along with my ankles.

Don’t like the toes of the shoes. Looks like clown shoes for the price not a good looking shoe

Love the style, great toe box.....if I could get them on! Cripes these we're the smallest 12.5 I've ever had. I literally could not get my foot in them. Super narrow at the rear and pretty stiff makes for a hard sell. Had to send them back. Back to looking for a proper zero drop wide toe box shoe.

I have been wanting to get a pair of boots, for a while now, and after recently trying Altra shoes for the first time I was sure that these were the ones.....
I have never, in my 34 years, worn a shoe that was soooo tight in the middle/toebox. I could barely get the right one on and it made my foot fall asleep after 30 minutes of sitting. I will be returning these, no doubt. Frustrating, because it took me about a month to settle in a pair of boots and I really liked the looks of these. In comparison I wear extremely tight fitting clipless cycling shoes, some fairly uncomfortable and European style widths (very narrow), and I have never been in such discomfort even after very long rides. I will continue to buy Altra shoes, and hopefully they will update these boots. I can’t believe that they fit so tight while their shoes are so dang roomy and comfortable.

The toe box is horrendously tight. It's leather and it won't stretch very well. For people with wide toes that splay out naturally, it's not a great fit. If they made the cut of the shoe wide enough in the toe box, they wouldn't look for nice and would look kind of like clown shoes. No dress shoe solution for me in sight except vevobarefoot..
I also thought the 30 day trial would work if you bought it from any authorized retailer.. I was wrong. So now I'm stuck with these...

I have been running in Altras for a number of years and own many pairs. I thought I'd give one of the "lifestyle" shoes a try -- that was a mistake. These might be the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've ever put on my feet. I don't know what's going-on with the toe box -- it seems more or less sufficiently wide, yet it felt like my feet were being compressed under tremendous pressure. It was so bad that even just sitting down I could not keep the shoes on. They went back immediately. I will henceforth be sticking with Altra for running shoes only... Unless they continue with their practice of trending more and more, seemingly, toward mainstream styles and shapes.

Let me preface by saying that I have three pair of other Altra shoes and love them--they are comfortable like no other shoe out there. Because I love the trail and running shoes from Altra, I really wanted to like these everyday boots. However they just don't fit. Length is fine, and toe box provides ample room, but the instep of the shoe is cut so low that the boots are way too tightso much so that didn't feel a break-in period would alleviate the problem. I do have a fairly high instep, but not so much that other shoes cause a problem. Unfortunately I had to return them.

Love Altras. Worn nothing else for a couple years now. This is a swing and a miss. This is the first Altra shoe I can't wait to get off my feet. They look nice and have the nice toe box, but it's tight across the top of the foot, but loose in the back and rubbing my heels. There is little to no support or cushioning in them. Standing all day has not been pleasant. First time I've worn an Altra where I can't wait to take them off. I appreciate the attempt to make a business casual/dress shoe. Make one that looks like a Smith Boot but feels like the Torin and I'm all in. These are going back.

Having been an Altra shoe wearer for many years I was glad to find the Smith boot. I know from the past that sizing is not always exact so I ordered 2 pair, one my correct size and one a half size up. I found the shoes correct for size however the width was not what I was used to in an Altra shoe. Both pair were very tight, even in the toe box. Both pair also had a very tight instep. I was disappointed and returned both for a refund. If you can wear the shoe I would recommend them as they are stylish and seem to be well made. Perhaps Altra could introduce a wide Smith boot in the future.

I have a moderate arch and could barely get my foot in the shoe. Once in, it was much too snug on the top of my foot. Other dimensions felt fine. I pretty much only where Altras. The Desert boot 1 did not have this issue.

I purchased the same size as my Torin Plush, but could not get my foot into the new boot. my instep is tall and I could not get it into the boot. So I returned them. I was disappointed, I wanted these to work in.

I've tried the Lone Peak and Superior and been very pleased with the wide fit and last shape. I really wanted the Smith boot to be a dressier shoe option and even possibly a light-duty work boot as I can't stand the heel on conventional dress shoes/boots. However, the foot volume on the Smith shoe was so small I couldn't even get my foot in it. I wear a size 13 in the Lone Peak and Superior. I can fit a 12-4E from New Balance or a 13-2E Minimus. The size 13 Smith boot is way to narrow and doesn't have enough height in the fore-foot. Almost as if they switched sizing systems and this is a woman's size 13.

What in the world did you use for a sizing template? Small children or toddlers? Maybe you magically shrunk an adults foot and somehow managed to base the size off of their miniaturized feet. I've worn Altra's for YEARS and the sizing of these is beyond ANY previous, off by 3 sizes sizing error you've made - and there's been a lot of them. Did I mention it's not just the size but the width too? You might as well label these as extra narrow, slim fit, elf only "boots".

These are like having two boards strapped to your feet. There is almost no cushioning to these. I was hoping they would be as comfortable as the torins. I was wrong. They are not even close. It is a shame, because they look nice.

I was on the search for brown, full-grain leather boots for my uniform that also fit my zero-drop, wide toe box preference. I had tried a couple pairs that were too loose in the heel and too tight on my wide-ish calves, so I looked for a shorter boot. The uppers on these fit the bill, but the sole felt like it was made of wood. Very, very weird to have no flex, and after I've spent a fair amount of time in barefoot-style shoes where I feel everything under my feet, it was not pleasant. I can't imagine these working out for many people, but if you're looking for a really stiff but flat shoe, I guess these would do.

I am very sad there is not a comparable women's boot. These would be perfect for my needs, but alas, a men's 7 is still too large for my small lady-feet.
