These shoes are not really 4E.

Super Duper NARROW! The 4E is a EE at best. Even after going a half size up, they remain narrow. Bummer, because the style is retro groovy.

I own other New Balance running shoes in men's 9.5 4E, which is wide enough to accommodate my orthotics. These were not even close to a 4E. I could barely get my foot into them, never mind the orthotic. Great-looking shoes, so very sad to return them.

Sole too "cushiony'. Abrasive mesh lining. End eyelet fixture intrudes on toes bending. Abrasive seam on inside sides where exterior materials join. Shoe strings are stretchy and annoying - also do not slide easily though eyelets. Inside of heel is too large - especially at top. Arch support is too far back - it is not under the "crest" of the arch. Also, arch support extends under the heel causing supination. Tongue - has too little padding - wrikles easily - both of which lead to abrasion. Whoever "designed/approved" these shoes should be replaced.

The style and comfort was exactly what I expected from New Balance. However, the quality fell far below my expectations. I use these exclusively at work where I spend about 50% of my time on my feet. I've had them for about 4 months now and I started to notice rips in the fronts of the shoes (see pics). I have another pair of New Balance shoes from 3 years ago and they're still going strong. New Balance - what happened?!?

Sorry to say this will probably be the last time I ever own a pair of brand new 574s or any new balance for that matter. Comfort and style were never an issue for me. The low rating is solely (pun intended) for the poor quality in material and or manufacture. I’ve been wearing this model shoe since 2010 and I have seen the quality of the shoe deteriorate before my eyes. This gray pair of 574 is less than 6 months and barely worn yet the suede has started to separated from the mid sole. I have even treated the suede, as I always do, so they literally look brand new minus the huge factory rip at the sole where the glue would normally keep the shoe intact. I’m super bummed only because I know this will get worse and it shouldn’t have happened this soon. I have decades old pair that never even tore or fell apart but only aged out of daily use. Thanks for the memories NB. I loved being on the fringe of fashion years ago but your popularity has made you overlook quality over profits. This issue has only reinforced my already growing love for Onitsuka/ASIC and the attention to quality they put into their products. Hope your company can get it right again one day because I truly did love wearing these classic runners. Cheers.

Not true to size. What has New Balance changed!?

The 574s have been modified from the previous fit, the tongue has changed and the shoes feel different overall. I've been wearing and buying the 574 for years, but these do not fit the same as they used to. Very disappointing that the same looking shoe has been changed. The new configuration is uncomfortable. Please return to the previous style.

Size and fit were true. New Balance are the only sneakers I will wear. My feet are happy in them.
