I'm sad to say that after so many years of buying Asics, I have to say good-bye. I used to be able to order a pair and be sure they would fit and have the quality and support I'd grown to love in the brand. Lately, they just dont work for me anymore, especially the fit in the toe area. They are too narrow and cut into the sides And tops of my feet.
I thought by buying this expensive pair , this would solve the problem, but it's a no go! I should, have listened to the other reviews of this style. Now I'm going to have to look for another brand. I'm an avid walker. Any suggestions my fellow Zappo customers? Thanks!

I just got these in the mail and before I actually take a run I wanted to give a review of the difference between the Nimbus 16 and the new Nimbus 20.
1. My old Nimbus in teal photos was a size 9. I had to get a size 9.5 wide in order for the toe box to be sufficient. With size upgrade it’s a little longer ( see thumb to big toe photos) but the toe box is now the same in the N20 and N16 versions. ( I tried the 19 in size 10 and the toe box was so small I was squeezed) so improvement there.
2. The height of the heel and ankle is the same in the N20 and N16 now
3. They are a little stiff but to be expected as they aren’t worn in yet.
4. The biggest difference I see which could be why there are some reviews about stiffness is the gel per portions. You’ll see in the photos that the N20 has less gel in the forefoot outer box and the heel than the N16. My N16 have about 200 miles on them, and I have over-pronation so the outer toe box tread is super worn down. I tried the dynflytes and I actually started having hip problems due to instability. To say I have not ran as much since last year is a understatement. I am hoping with the N20 I can run smoothly again. I will update after a good week of runs.

Asics had the perfect shoe with the gel nimbus 18. I've tried the 19s and now these, they offer very little support around the ankles, are much too firm, and I end up with knee pain when wearing them. Please go back to the styling of the 18!!!!!

This is a continuation of my previous review today. I have been walking around the house with these shoes on to break them in before I go the gym this afternoon to run on the treadmill and have discovered that they weren't providing the most comfortable support. As luck would have it, I found a pair of Spenco insoles in my shoe accessory box and switched them out for the shoes' removable insoles. They are way more comfy now. I would advise that if you purchase these running shoes (remember to order the D width and not the B, so the toe box will fit your foot), be prepared to also purchase a pair of Spenco insoles. Otherwise, do not purchase these shoes.

The newer Nimbus 20 was supposed to correct the fit issues of the 19 and go back to the traditional Asics fit but they still run really small. I am a 9.5 in street shoes and usually have been a 10 in older Asics but even the 10 was too small. I need a 10.5 in the Nimbus 20 just like I did in the 19. The color choices on Zappos for this shoe aren’t great IMO.

I read that more expensive shoes consistantly get worse reviews. I noticed that here too. I think the reason is not that cheaper shoes are better but that people are unrealistic with their expectations of the expensive ones. They are judging whether or not the shoes are worth the money. SO based on that I will have to say that I resent the fact that Asics GEL Nimbus 20s are about 40 dollars more than the 18s I bought last year. But I have VERY troublesome feet: Neuropathy, arthritis, and a host of other problems. I am not a runner. I just need something that feels goodor at least won't add pain. So I wore these shoes several places so far and I keep meaning to try and notice how my feet are feeling when I do. But I forget to notice. That means I am feeling no pain! I can go out and forget about my feet. They aren't miraculous. If I am out all day I will regret it. And they do feel a little less cushiony than the 18s. But I like the style better this year and I like how light the uppers are. It's like wearing a thick pair of socks with a shoe bottom. I have tried so many other shoes. But Asics seem to suit my feet better than any other shoe so I always come back. So for me they are worth the money. I do wish they had a tiny bit more support and cushioning so for that reason I give them 4 stars.

I’ve been running in Tigers since the 1980s. Even though I am now more of a jog-walker, I still say these are the best shoes out there. I’ve run in all of the brands, even the first Adidas wafflestompers and yes, Asics makes the best shoe out there. FWIW I also went to U of Oregon (Go Ducks) - so for those of you in the know, my choice for Asics says something. On a practical note, know you have to size up a half size now with Asics as their sizing has changed over the years. I like my shoe to fit well, on the slightly loose side of snug, which gets me over rocky trails without too much lateral, ankle twisting motion. I have a slender foot and wear an 8.5 in street shoes but wear a 9 in Asics. Hope that helps!

I used to be a big Asics fan and then I switched to another brand. Well, this pair has me back 100%! Worked out in them tonight on the elliptical for 3.5 miles and treadmill for 1 mile and my feet feel amazing! I have had bunion surgery and have very painful feet so this says a lot for me to compliment them! Get yourself a pair. They're totally worth the money!

These fit better than the Nimbus 19. They aren’t as comfortable as the 18’s, but much improved from the 19’s.

I used to run in ASICS years ago, when the 2100 series was a perfect blend of stability, cushion, and price. Then ASICS messed around with it and made it too narrow. So, I switched to Mizuno Wave Creations for a few years, then Mizuno messed around with those and I had to find another shoe. Recently I picked up a pair of Brooks Adrenaline 18's and a pair of Brooks Ghost 11's. I like the support of the Adrenaline, and the cushion of the Ghosts, and I can certainly make a case for wearing one or the other depending on the workout. But I still needed an all around go to running shoe.
When the Nimbus went on sale a bit ago, I decided to give them a try. A friend who also loved the 2100 series had a pair, and had good things to say, so I ordered some.
Took them out of the box, put them on my feet, and they reminded me of the good old days, when ASICS were supportive and cushioned and fit. I went on a quick little 3 mile jog and, after the first 1/2 mile when my feet were settling in, they felt really good. Good push off, good heel support, no slipping. And they look cool.
Size wise they are on the narrow side. I wear an 8.5 in running shoes, so that's what I ordered. The length of the shoe is perfect, but I'll probably try the 8.5 Wide version on my next purchase just to see what that feels like.
For reference, I'm a 2-3 times a week runner, and I don't go far or fast.

I wore Brooks running shoes for years. While I still think Brooks are a great product, I cannot tell you enough how much I like the ASICS GEL-Nimbus. A lot softer feeling than Brooks. It is like walking/running in a cloud! Super comfy!

I really like the fit of this shoe, BECAUSE I read the other reviews before buying and went for the wide instead of the medium due to the toe box complaints. About to try it on the treadmill at the gym this afternoon.

I have been wearing the gel nimbus in size 7 1/2 for years . I am a 57 year old runner who needs a lot of cushioning in my shoe. I thought the previous models ran a little small, but the next size up was just a little to big. I always wore the all black model before, but purchased the mid-grey/seashell pink this time because I think the black is hot in the summer. I really like the color combo & they fit perfectly. They are not quite as cushioned as the old model but still very comfortable for a long run.
Over all I am quite pleased.

Shame on ASICS! after almost 20 yrs of buying the gel nimbus, they stopped making narrow!& this the last version of nimbus that will come in narrow! Heel slips & way too much foam in back edge of shoe to get my heel secure. Ended up with new balance 840v4 for perfect fit!

ASICS Gel Nimbus are the best sneakers I have found. I have autoimmune arthritis in my big toes and a few others and need to have a lot of cushion in my sneaker and the ability to get wide width. I’ve been wearing ASICS for about 10 years because of this. They occasionally come out with a version that is narrower than usual. One year I had to switch to New Balance but as soon as the newer ASICS version came out, I switched back.
It was time for the next version (21) of this style to come out and I’m reading reviews that 21 is narrower than normal so I made sure to buy a couple pair of these to get me through until January 2020 when they release the next versions. It really aggravates me that ASICS is inconsistent in the width of this style and I’ve seen plenty of reviews of people feeling similarly. Unfortunately they are the only thing that allows me to work out with least amount of pain due to my foot issues. This is why I am forced to stockpile extra pair.
I bought the gray with pale pink laces and also have the navy with aqua. Colors are exactly what they look like online. It seems sneaker makers have a hard time picking colors for women’s shoes. Choices are either either pink or super dark. Sneaker makers, give us some better color options PLEASE! Hello can you toss in some green, yellow, orange, burgundy accents for once? Lose the purple and pink!

I love ASICS because they fit my feet perfectly, and this one is no different. It looks exactly like the pic, the same rich blue. The sole cushioning and arch support are awesome. I can run in them without feeling every bump in the sidewalk/asphalt but they’re great just for walking the dogs too. I will stick with these.

Finally-asics got the memo and gave us back a great fitting shoe. After the gel nimbus 19 disappointment , I tried other brands to find a comfortable shoe with good arch support and a roomy toe box. None was to be found. Finally gave it one more shot and success. Poor Zappos has sent me a truck load this year and had to return most of them. Pricey but worth it for those 70 and older who depend on orthotics.

This shoe has a narrow close fit through the mid foot and heel but had a lot of depth in the toe box. The arch support was adequate but not excellent although if you are a true narrow or a slender medium, it may work well for you. I am a slimmer narrow (truly a AAA by who can ever find that in an athletic shoe?!) so it was a little to big for me.

I've purchased Asics for several years now and really liked the style, color & features of this shoe online. I researched other Asics styles and kept coming back to this one. However, I was a little reluctant due to the other reviews. I made the purchase and so far I am not disappointed. I wear a 7 1/2 or 8 in most dress shoes and boots; however, I always order up in athletic shoes and I took an 8 1/2 in this shoe. I have bunions and toe box is adequate. The support feels good as well. My feet are gimped and I need bunion surgery on both feet, but having to put off because of life situations. I still walk, jog and practice Yoga. I would recommend this shoe. I ordered the indigo blue color and love it.

I’m a long time ASICS fan due to arthritis in my toes and feet causing me pain and the need for a sneaker available in wide width due to swelling and damage in my feet. I’ve been frustrated many years when even ASICS wide width is too narrow because they changed that years style a little. Thankfully I had bought a couple pair of the Nimbus 18 a few years ago and was able to wear them until the Nimbus 20 came out. The 19’s were VERY narrow in the toe box and I could not even wear them in wide. A few weeks ago I bought the 20 in a regular width (navy color) and they fit. I tried the gray pair on and they seemed to fit a little more narrow. Maybe I got lucky with the navy pair. Just shows that ASICS needs to do a better job manufacturing their product because of so much inconsistency even just across colors of the same style. In case this helps someone, while I need extra room in the toe box, my heels & rest of my foot are narrow. These are great in that my feet aren’t sliding all around...the width is not wide thru the rest of the shoe. This could be good for some and bad for others.
I will say that I do not feel like the cushion in the 20 is as good as the 18. They feel a little stiffer and I saw someone else mentioned that as well. I agree but it’s not bad enough for me to switch to another brand. If Hoka One One’s didn’t rub against my ankles and annoy me, I would try those out but for now I will stick with ASICS.
ASICS, please get your act together! You make a great product but I can’t rely on you to be consistent

I have been buying Asics for a while now because of the padded sole. Running hurts my feet with other shoes due to past injuries. I have the previous Gel Nimbus and ready for a new pair. These are not as cusioned as my current ones so they are going back. I’ll have to try a different model now. :-(

Very disappointed in the sizing changes yet again. I bought the blue Nimbus GEL 20 just 5 months ago and had to order a 9 1/2 as the 9 was too tight across the toe box. . I am normally a Size 9 in this type of shoe. I just ordered the pink/grey in the 9 1/2 and it is 1/2 shorter than the blue Nimbus 20 and of course too short. The difference is visible immediately. THIS IS ONLY 6 MONTHS... and now have to order a size 10!!. This is ridiculous. If the Size 10 does not work it will be my last Asics- GEL purchase.

Super disappointed with these shoes. I loved the look and like many others, I had been wearing ASICS for many years. They had always been comfortable from day 1. These were super narrow especially at the toe area. Unfortunately I didn’t take the time to try them on before wearing them out, so by the time I realized how terrible they were it was too late to return them. I wore them to Disneyland and my big toes literally turned black. I almost bought a pair of Mickey flip flops just because these shoes were so painful! I’ve now moved on to Brooks for athletic shoes which are amazing!
