I have both the Kings and Lone Peaks. I love the cushion in the Lone Peaks but the sole is to slippery. I love the sole in the Kings but for long hikes my feet start to feel the lack of cushion. The Timps provide the best of both worlds and this shoe is now my absolute go too!!

No shoe is for everyone!my take I ran in a fair share of diff shoes, I have an m in timp3 I guess that's medium width?I have skinny feet so I like it and I like room in toes so this is a great fit for me,I wish I would of got a half size bigger but I wore thin socks when I tried them on so now winter wool socks are a lil tight, also there is something across the toes or midfoot where material changes that hurts the top of foot when bending during trail runs

Love my Timps. They work great on and off the trail. I've used them for backpacking and running. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because mine are showing significant wear after 6 months and probably under 200 miles - one of my shoelace loops has come undone already. The shoelaces are also on the long side. Still would recommend the shoes to anyone, especially people with wide toes.

I dig everything about these, but the sizing is different than my superior 3's. The Timps seem about a full size bigger. I would have sized down a bit. Otherwise satisfied though!

I'm incredibly happy with this product. It's a really nice balance of cushioning, lightness, and stability. I run about 3 miles a day in these, and they've done well. The only reason it's not four stars is that I had an eyelet snap only four weeks into use.

These are excellent trail shoes with one downfall... the asymmetrical lacing, when tightened pulls the toes of the shoe upward which gives the feeling of your toes bumping the end no matter how you adjust. Fix that and they are near perfect. As always, a half size up from your normal shoes size should do the trick. Seem durable and once broken in, they feel heavenly.

My favourite shoes ever after 35+ years of running were the Olympus until the Vibram sole models. It needed decent grip but the updates lost that beautiful cushioned sole and the feeling the shoe was floating on your foot. Where there was previously no compression on the foot the new model was tight at the mid foot and was stiff and too firm. So I recently got the Timp's. Like the old Olympus they feel like they are floating on your foot and the cushioning is excellent, even better than my last pair of Olympus. If the cushioning holds up over time I don't see myself going back to the Olympus. Please don't mess with what makes this a great shoe!

I came from the superior line to use these as fast hikers with some weight. These are really good and very comfortable. True fit, just some extra cushion I need to get used to. I felt the superiors have a more contoured insole, but when you stand on these, the cushion does just that. I pushed my superiors over to Gym shoe mode to get full use out of them. They feel better, I think because they are so broken in. Trail use is out of the question now. Im giving 4 stars because Im still on the fence with the thicker sole, but when I take these on the trail for the first time, I'll know for sure if they meet my expectations.

The temp's are my upgrade from the Superior. Both are my favorite trails shoes. The cushioning of the Temp is exactly what I was looking for when upgrading from the Superior. The only comments I have would be the layout of the laces. The curve down the shoe creates some odd pressure points versus the typical straight version. Also, this goes for both the Temp and Superior 3.0, it would be great to have a thick rubber toe guard that comes up over the front of the shoe. I've worn holes in both pairs from rocks hitting the front. Otherwise, these shoes are awesome and would highly recommend for single track or dirt road!!

Great shoes for the most part. The pros: They fit like the LP 3.0 so if you' have those expect a similar fit. I wear size 9s but I wear a 9.5 in theses. The protection is great and I can definitely tell the difference between these and the LP. I always felt a little bruised in the LPs when crossing the 20 mile mark, but not with these shoes. Almost perfect in my opinion. The con: I have one con. Within the first 2 miles of a 35 miler we had a creek crossing. Once the shoes were wet the insole started sliding. Not cool. I checked with some other racers after finishing the race who were wearing the Timps and they experienced the same thing. I imagine a little glue will fixit, but that really shouldn't be happening.

I've put just over 300 miles in this shoe and I love it. Cushion is perfect, tread can handle anything you throw at it but the upper can be a little sloppy. I was hoping for the superior with a 29mm stack height, my ideal shoe. I will be getting another pair soon but this one is still holding up, no holes but the midsole has about had it.

These shoes have poor upper durability, but I like the ride so much I keep wearing them in their shredded state. The inner flex works great. They are nice and thick yet have great ground feel. I've never had a shoe this thick that allows me to grab with my toes like this one. If the durability is improved this will be my perfect shoe.

This shoe is amazing from the get go. I can handle downhills like never before, doing sub-5 pace and feeling the benefits of the great cushioning. I usually train in LPs but have trained in Olympus as well. Saying it is in between is a perfect way to put it. You can tell this shoe would be great for the long haul. Some have complained about loss of cushioning, maybe the initial cushioning but I don't see that as much of an issue for me 70 miles in. Traction is amazing. Some might say it's a little heavy but I find it funny when MOP or BOP runners complain about this (GR). The 2 oz aren't going to affect you that much and with a higher cushioned shoe it's to be expected. Lacing system is good, shoe laces can be replaced as they have trouble staying tied even with double knots. Minor issue. The one problem for me, and it's a big one, the back of the shoe where it rubs against Achilles is too high and causes a lot of chafing and blood. It looks like they tried to copy the Hoka Rapa Nui 2 which had a similar high back. Makes it feel more like a hiking shoe than a running show. Even wearing higher ankle socks I had the same running problem. Not good. Will unfortunately have to return. Have never had this issue with ANY Altra shoe or any shoe period. I really loved the shoe, but that one issue really destroyed the back of my ankle. If you don't have this problem I'd say it's a good shoe. Very wide for wide feet like mine and very toe boxey. Also drains really well.

First time out of the box ran a trail marathon in the Timps. The new lacing design I believe is better, it improves the fit around the foot. The shoe is an improvement as it's not as sloshy when off camber, this is my one complaint on Altra shoes, but it's not material enough to keep me out of the shoes. The sole design provides a good grip, I'm making the assumption that it's similar to the Lone Peaks as I have run in alot different trail conditions, with the exception of real loose terrain. The shoe is a plusher ride compared to the Lone Peak. I am anxious to see how the upper holds up over time after alot of miles. Thanks ultra for the shoe. Better than the Lone Peak in my opinion. If you are looking for a little more cushion and better fit around your foot give these a try. After alot miles I intend to update this review.

I love the fit! Which is why I have maybe 6 pair of Altras! However as a true trail shoe, here in the Blue Ridge, I need something that will not slip so readily on rock.... to the point of almost being dangerous... I'm an outdoor professional, meaning I m outdoors all the time.. if this shoe had sticky rubber... it would be the most perfect shoe ever built.... until then, I'll keep on looking. (By the way, this feedback has been provided to the company repeatedly since I first wore the shoes 6 months ago...)

These shoes fit my wide feet very comfortably and give me plenty of toe room, and the cushioning feels great especially on stony downhills. Unfortunately, my issue with them is that the outer mesh on the upper started to significantly tear on the inside-side of the shoe on both, under the Altra logo, at only ~100 miles in. Even for a trail shoe, that feels too early for that type of breakdown to show up. It appears this is a common complaint across reviews on this site and others. I think this is a great shoe otherwise, and would certainly consider them again if they can work out that issue.

I run exclusively in Altras, and I was quite excited to try the Timps. The shoe itself is a nice medium between the Olympus and the Lone Peak. Good cushion and good tread pattern. My one complaint about this shoe would be the uppers. They are made of a type of mesh material that is not very durable. After 150 miles of use, both shoes had tears on the inner part of the shoe, where the leather and the mesh meet. If you don't try to stop it with some type of adhesive, the tears continue to grow. I found this flaw to be quite unacceptable for a $130 shoe, with a little over 100 miles on them. I hope the next version of the Timps has an upper that more closely resembles the upper of the current Lone Peaks.

These are very well built and designed. Lots of cushioning without feeling overdone, sturdy materials, and excellent tread. But I am super frustrated that I can't get these in a 7 1/2. I'm a woman with wide feet, and women's Altras are much too narrow for me. I've tried several men's Altra styles in size 8, and they are all too narrow at the ball of my foot, though they are also a bit too long. The Timp is the only Altra that does not squeeze my midfoot (they run on the larger side compared to other Altras, and something about the design of the upper accommodates my wider feet). I tried the 7 and the 8, and both are wide enough, but the 8 is definitely too long, yet the 7 is too short. 7 1/2 would be perfect. I rarely find shoes of any type that fit me, so this is a big disappointment. I emailed Altra to express this and received a prompt, friendly reply saying that I was not the only one to request a men's 7.5, and that they hoped to see this change in the near future. I hope that means within months (not years). I would really like to get them before the generous fit of the Timp is improved out of existence.

I have run the entire year (2018) in Altra Lone Peaks. The last version (4) felt a little flat to me, so I thought I would try these. I am disappointed. There are some things that I do like about these shoes, unfortunately running in them is not really one of them. Here is what I do like about the shoes. 1. The tongue opens very wide, and it is very easy to get this shoe on and off. When I first got them, I thought it would be a great benefit for a long race where I would want help from my crew to change my shoes. The wide opening would make that much easier than my tighter fitting Lone Peaks. 2. The shoes feel kinda ok on a sidewalk. Here is what I don't like about this shoe. 1.The "foot shape" (to me) seems like the toe section was cut about 5 degrees too far to the outside. I find that my feet, especially my big toe, end up jammed up in the front inside corner of the shoe. I have also found that running on rocky terrain, especially at night, if my foot rolls in, due to rocks or trail ruts, the inside of my foot ends up against the rocks instead of the shoe. 2. For some reason, my big toes also seem to rub agains the top of the toe box more than I would expect. I have run almost 3700 miles this year in various Lone Peaks, and run about 145 miles in the Timps since the beginning of December. I feel that I have given them a fair chance. I will run them out, but after that, no more for Timps for me. I hope you have better luck than I have had!

I like many of Altra’s shoes, but these just don’t look or fit right for me. My toes rub the material on top, even though there is plenty of room side to side. The soles are thick and the shoe just has kind of a chunky vibe to it, but that is a strictly personal opinion as far as looks go. I do really like the olive green color scheme, though.

I really like these shoes...alot, but after having them for a couple of months they have been falling apart! First off they do fit true to size and if you have wide feet you are going to love them. Right out of the box the right shoe had a terrible squeak that I eventually got used to and actually laugh when I run bu others telling them there is no sneaking up on anyone wearing these guys! The grip is great on the trails and the overall feel is very cushy. My first disappointment was when I woke early one morning for my long run and two of the lacing loops broke...I managed to just skip those ones and move up to the next. I figured adapt and overcome. Recently I have noticed that the mesh has been ripping on the outside of the inner surface of the shoes which I guess is only a matter of time before they both fall apart. I would think that for the money i put down on the shoes they would last me at least a couple hundred miles. Definitely will be a bit gun-shy on buying anymore Altra products. Before you buy the TIMP's look at other reviews across the internet and you'll see that there is a real problem with this model

If the Altra Timp had held up, I would love the shoe. A shoelace eyelet tore; the outer shell on the medial side of each shoe is fraying, and other eyelets are starting to show wear. Both shoes now make a squeaking sound (something wrong with the soles perhaps). I also don't like the rubber "flipper" that extends on the heel of the shoe. It catches on the face of stair (rail ties) when doing down the flight. I like the shape of the lacing, wide toe box (this is my third pair of Altra's - normally I buy the Lone Peak), the grip, and overall fit and feel when running the trails. Too bad - makes me concerned if I should stay with Altra's as I was seeking something a bit different from the Lone Peak model.
