Bought shoe on recommendation from my wife. Was running in Altra, Merrell trail glove, and NB trails shoes
Played soccer much of my life so used to ~ zero drop running. Shoes give nice plush ride at the expense of responsiveness, but tired legs say it's OK. Plush rides make my knee ligaments hurt for the first few runs and this was not exception, but they figured it out after 3 runs.
My biggest complaint is the reinforcing stripe along the outer lateral edge of the shoe causes intense pain after about 40 minutes of running (with or without socks). I have a wide foot, but my other shoes do not have this problem. Guess what they don't have?
I like the HOKA (probably trail) for when a need a cushy day, so I am considering trying a shoe without that strip instead of another Altra. BTW, my wife says HOKAs are true to size every time so buy the same size with confidence. Wish I could say this about my Altras.

I really wanted to like these, but the arch portion of the shoe was too narrow for my foot and lead to blisters. If you have wide feet I'd suggest caution before buying these (my feet are pretty wide tho so it might just be me)

The Clifton is an exceptional shoe for a larger runner that needs additional cushion. The sole is rigid enough yet soft on impact. The firebox has plenty of room for your foot during long runs.

I use them for running only. I've run Hokas for several years. Very pleased with them.

Great running shoes. I can definitely feel the soft balanced cushion and stability. It greatly helps me with recovery. I have one complain on the medial side of the shoe. I can feel hot spot building up on my right medial arch from the shoe at the 3 mile, where I ended up having a small blister at the end of my 6 mile run.

I just bought this shoe last week and ran 12 km today. I wear Clifton's since the 2. Looks great and responsive. Maybe more than the Clifton 3. However I felt more comfortable in the toe area with the 3. The weight is a bit 'go back' but I didn't feel it affected my overall training.

I've run in the Clifton's from 2-4. The 2s gave me blisters, the 3s were nice and cushy but the sole wore down quickly. The 4s are a little stiff but I have over 400 miles on them and still going strong. I'd love for them to be a little less stiff but the durability trade off is fine for me. It is a really great shoe.

Great looking shoe and good fit but much firmer ride than expected for such a thick sole

These shoes are extremely comfortable!!! I go all day wearing them at school, work, and to run in. Even for walking these shoes will do it!! If only they came in a wide version they would be worthy of a 5. I wear a size 11.5 and opted for a 12 hoping they would be a little wider. I recommend to buy your shoes a full size larger than you normally wear if you have wide feet.

I got these to replace the Clifton 3, in which one shoe had the tread worn completely off on one heel. The Clifton 3 seems to have a little more cushion, but hopefully the 4's tread will last longer. At about the 18 mile point, they seemed to get broken in, and felt a little cushier. Just ordered the Vanquish to train in, which is supposed to have more cushion. I used to have plantar fasciitis but the problem went away when I started wearing Hoka's. Overall, they are awesome.

Love the Clifton2 but I gotta say, the 4 is not an improvement. First mistake: sacrificed weight for style. The Clifton2 was light as a feather. Felt like it could float on air. Lots of cushion. I care very little about style. I'm all about the feel.
Second mistake: the sole is stiff. The Clifton2 I can fold in half. The 4 is hard. Gonna break if I fold it. Bottom line: the Clifton4 is a new shoe and not an upgrade from the Clifton2. Disappointed. Ill be trying another Hoka style next time. Still a better running shoe than those other guys but feel short of expectation.

Went to running shoe store to checkout clifton 4. First impression was narrow in the forefoot but snug everywhere. No problem as wide 9.5 is there except couldnt try it. Bondi 5 wide shoe feels loose and wobbly so not sure how clifton4 wide will feel. Liked the arch support. Kudos to hoka on that one. However arch support disappears before the forefoot. Its just after the heel cup. So the midfoot arch support is still missing. Liked the rocker curvature. Sole being stiff is something that is not relatable to me as I did not have clifton 3. That said eva sole is old legacy technology and until etpu technology suppliers are locked in, things cant improve much there. Bondi5 too was unremarkable and lacks in soft pillowy feel. But I get the demand for soft cushy soles. Not sure if holding out for napali is a good idea and if that will be for flat feet only. Then there is the casualwear side of the shoe. Unfortunately due to the white sole and bright colorways, may not be usable much outside fitness. Griffin looks a little muted so might getaway with it occasionally.

Very comfortable and light weight. No problems with the pinky toe like with my other pair of Hokas.

In my work there is a need to go up stairs and move from one building to another (our campus has 7 buidings) and I used to wear Nike all the time. One of my friends mentioned to try Hoka so I went to Footwear and tried on the Bondi 5 and Clifton 4. Immediately I felt fine walking on the Clifton 4 and did not hesitate to purchase.
After using these cool shoes for 3 weeks continuously, am never going back to those Nikes, Pumas or Adidas. Hoka got me hooked and I would be checking different models and you got it, I will be buying them with no regrets!

I like the Clifton 4 but it runs a little looser than the Clifton 2 which I loved. Still a great shoe with amazing amounts of cushioning

A different shoe from the previous Cliftons, but I think perhaps more durable which would be nice. Otherwise just as comfortable and plush. Seems to run a bit small lengthwise, but I have inserts so this may be only my experience.

I've used Clifton 1-4 shoes for my daily road runner for years, putting ~50 miles a week on them. The Clifton's continued weight gain across revisions is worrisome but I've never felt myself thinking it's a heavy shoe. I am a fan of the stiffer midsole on this revision, which makes it a little more responsive, nimble, and feels faster. It's cushioned without being mushy and I think hits the sweet spot for what I want in a daily road runner. I think this is the best upper Hoka has ever put on a Clifton. The toebox is marginally wider than prior versions but those with wide feet should definitely opt for the wide version.

Just like another reviewer said, not sure why people are complaining so much, these are super plush and comfortable and my feet feel awesome after a long run. Plenty of arch support and responsiveness. I am a bigger guy with wider feet. At 225 and typically a 2E shoe, it is hard finding a show that doesn't make my feet hurt after a run either in the width or bottom of my foot from the pounding. This shoe does great with both. I was worried that they would be too narrow, but after trying them in the store and feeling how good they felt I took a chance. That chance really paid off. I will say that the bottoms seem to be wearing faster than my Asics have in the past which is a concern and the reason I only gave them 4 stars.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors and design though. Great job on that.

This is mostly about the one star review that has skewed the true review results. I get it if you are not happy with the shipping. Complain to customer service but don't skew the product's rating with something that is independent of the product. People read reviews to see how well the product compares to others, not to hear complaints or compliments about shipping or any other thing.
The shoes work the same as the 3's did for me. Plenty of cushion and good stability for on and off road.

I wanted a pair of running shoes with soft cushion and in wide size. Due to having wider feet, its very difficult for me to find shoes that I like and in my size (I am 10-4E). I liked Hoka Clifton 3 when I tried at a store but they didn't fit me well. Luckily I read about the wide size of the Clifton 4 and pre-ordered it. So far I have run about 20 miles or so and they are very comfortable. I have used Asics Gel Cumulus 16 before and I would say I like the Hoka more than the Asics (Doesnt mean the Asics are bad shoe, they have been my go to for 2 years). I Gave 4 start because I would have preferred slightly lighter, slightly softer and upper mesh like Nike FlyKnit.

Just a daily shoe as i'm on my feet all day in sales. It feels a little too soft for me but i figured i'd try them because of the sale price and my has them and loves hers. Still love all my other Hoka shoes though!
