I ran and raced in the Clifton 3 and while the Clifton 4 does not feel like the Clifton 3, the proof in the running and racing. The Clifton 4 is not a spoongey feeling, but running in them and racing a half last week, I can say they are amazing, My legs are not tired and my knees and Achilles tendon are not sore. Regarding the negative comments, either they haven't run in them enough or they do need an entirely different shoe. I definitely recommend the Clifton 4.

Not sure why people are complaining so much, these are super plush and comfortable and my feet feel awesome after a long run. Plenty of arch support and responsiveness.

I have been running the NYC City Marathon since 2005. I first heard of Hoka from the Ultramarathoner runners I knew via social media. Since then I have ran and trained in alot of shoes. The Clifton 1 is my favorite and I still kept the three pairs I purchased and even still run in them. I have trained in the 2 and 3. I didn't care for the three. I just used the Clifton 4 on a 8 mile run yesterday and then today on a 20 miler. WHAT I LIKE: the new upper, the outsole material-this material used seems less marshmellowy than other versions but this is not a bad thing. It has a great peppy cushioned ride and with the meta rocker it suits my heel toe strike off. Even though I am a overpronator this will always be my choice of shoe for long training runs and for the 2017 NYC Marathon. I am not a fast marathoner I can hold down a 11 to 12 minute mile pace for that distance. Durability-Like I said I put alot of mileage on my other Hokas, wit this new outsole material should give it more of a life span than versions 1-3. WHAT I DON'T LIKE-the narrow toe box. That being said I usually loosen up the shoe laces and stretch out the middle section where the tongue is and that helps. To date I have never had any toe issues with the shoe. *As far as the weight and it being heavier I really can't tell that it comes in near 12 oz. I am a size 12.5 so no matter what my shoes will always have more material to them. I guest the biggest comment I can make is that I love it when a shoe disappears over a long run and your locked in on a nice consistent conversational pace with a shoe. Bravo Hoka, Bravo! All the Best! Time to Fly @ 2017 NYC Marathon Be Well my fellow runners, Michael LaMorte : )

Tried on the Clifton 4, and seemed a bit off at the start, but love the technology, the feel. And, i moved from really ugly Brooks to quite good looking Cliftons.

I've been a loyal Clifton wearer since the Clifton 2s came out and I have to say that while I thought the 3s were an improvement from the 2s, the 4s are definitely an improvement from the 3s. The Clifton 4 is not as wide as the 3 and the padding in the sole is firmer, but it makes the shoe feel more supportive overall.

I've been a Hoka wearer ever since they came on the market, and they've continuously gotten better and better. The Clifton 4 is a tremendous update. Love the new upper, super light like the previous, and just a touch firmer, which feels awesome. Thank you Hoka One One!

Having run extensively in the Clifton 2 and 3, and being a huge fan of the line, I can say without hesitation this is my favourite Clifton yet. It feels snappier right out of the box, same sweet cushion but feels like less shoe, despite gaining a fraction in weight. It is a tad firmer than previous versions, but still plenty soft, with the foam now providing a newfound rebound and responsiveness that's hugely welcome. The new puff print upper hugs my foot better, while room in the midfoot and toebox are just about perfect for my taste now. I always have high hopes for Clifton updates, and in my mind Hoka absolutely hit this one out of the park.

Max cushion and minimal weight - true to the origins that made the first three versions a hit.

I've had many pairs of Cliftons, as well as other Hoka One One shoes. The Cliftons are by far my favorite running shoes. The new Clifton 6's are great, but saving considerable dollars with the now-out-of-production Clifton 4 was pretty great too. It's a terrific shoe for training, able to withstand high mileage but still very well cushioned, supportive and comfortable. A little heavy compared to the Clifton 1's; but entirely manageable, especially for longer runs.

This is my fourth or fifth pair of Cliftons. I really like the fit and feel of the shoes. I'm primarily a road runner, and I was glad to receive my new shoes.

I have Mortons Neuroma, flat feet, and bunions - so Hoka One One Cliftons are probably fine for most people. When I took the insoles out and put in my custom orthotics, my heel slipped out. The orthotics fit perfectly in the shoe, so I don't think I can go a 1/2 size down. So sadly had to send back. Thank you Zappos for your easy return policy.

I think this shoe is so cute and I wasn't disappointed to see it in person. Unfortunately it didn't fit so I have to send it back. I am a woman and purchased this shoe hoping it would be a little wider and give me some toe room and if the shoe didn't run short I think that would have worked. All the charts tell me to order 1 1/2 size smaller than your women's size to buy a men's shoe. So I usually wear a 9 Wide. In this shoe I purchased a men's 7 1/2. The width was doable but it was a good half size to short. So if all Hoka One One are alike I would say that if a woman is going to purchase a man's shoe in this brand they should not order smaller than one size difference. Sadly this shoe is no longer available in a men's 8 or I would try again.

I absolutely love Hoka One One shoes. I have the pair of Clifton 4's that I am reviewing here. I have two pairs of Clifton 2's, and a pair of Ora Recovery Flip-Flops. I purchase size 10.5, and medium "D" width in virtually every type of shoe that I buy. I see a podiatrist for various minor foot health issues related to extreme exercise, and just recently my foot was described as "narrow" by the doctor. Both pairs of my Clifton 2's are still hanging in there even with daily use for the past two years or so. I am regularly asked at the gym, "what kind of shoes are those?" (I think because the soles are a bit thicker, and they look comfortable...) I love, love, love the Hoka One One Clifton 2's. I like the Clifton 4's. Actually, I bought them because they were predominantly white (it is amazingly difficult to find a pair of white sneakers anymore...). I am keeping the Clifton 4's, but I must admit that I am slightly disappointed. If I compare the 2's and the 4's it is easy to see what a previous review has mentioned. The "toe box" is narrower. It is slightly more "pointy." The Clifton 2's had a nice padded "ankle collar. The 4's have a "V" cut ankle collar that doesn't cause me any issues, but I like the feel of the 2's better. The tongue feels less padded and the "shoe lace pass through," the mesh pattern, and the reflective/"plastic" materials seems to have been cheapened somewhat. I would recommend Hoka One One. The 4's still feel lighter and more comfortable to me than anything else out there. However, I clearly don't like the direction in which this particular shoe seems to be evolving toward. I will continue to observe future iterations of this shoe and hope that some elements of its previous versions eventually returns.

Went for two three mile runs and they are already showing signs of wear on the soles. After the second run I developed a blister on my foot. Really wanted to like these shoes but not worth the money if they wear out so easily.

I bought these Clifton 4's after owning 2 pairs of the Clifton 3's. I think they are still great but definitely not as light as the 3's. I'm still a big Hoka One One fan though.

I had my eye on these for awhile and took the leap when they were discounted. Kudos for Zappos for recommending half a size larger than my normal shoe size, based on my Nike sizing. The sizing is just right. I don't run but frequently take brisk, 7-mile walks on hard surfaces, which is why I like a cushioned running shoe. I can't help feel that my feet and the insoles don't quite line up, which is a problem I've had with another brand. It's only slight and once I get moving I don't really think about it. The cushioning is fine and I feel like they give me good support. Love the way they look. Have read reviews questioning the durability of the sole, so we'll see how that goes. Otherwise, these are expensive shoes and I'm not sure they're worth the extra cost, but I don't regret my purchase.
