I have bought approximately 6 pairs of these boots over the years, and just recently opened my latest pair. Unfortunately, Lowa has dramatically reduced the thickness of the sole. It is no longer as supportive as it once was. Now the GTX is more of a casual boot than a day hiker’s boot. Sorry that they made this change to a previously excellent product.

have worn lowa renegade gtx lo for years. this iteration has different and inferior lacing (now holes through shoe, not riveted metal quick loops). this also causes the laces to be too short. price didn't go down, of course. too bad for lowa - once the standard. maybe this is why rei and others are no longer stocking the Lo

I bought these boots to replace a pair I have worn out. I have bought 5-6 pairs of the same boot. But Lowa has lowered the quality by reducing the thickness and rigidity of the sole. Unfortunately it is no longer a hiker’s boot. Therefore I am returning them.

Lowa has cheapened these over the years. I have a pair from about 5 years ago. It has the same durable eyelets for laces that are found on the Mid model. Now they use cheap grommet/holes for the laces yet charge the same price. Bring back the durable lacings/eyelets.

I purchased the GTX Lo because I've worn out my GTX Mid boots which I like. I thought the Lo model may be a bit cooler and more comfortable. I have a long narrow foot (13B) and the Mids fit me well but the Lo slips on my heel so I returned them. I'll likely go back to the Mid model since the choice of narrow boots is so limited. I am pleased with the GTX Mid boots and they have held up well to rugged use on the rocky Arizona trails. Traction when scrambling up or over boulders is excellent. I rated this boot down on comfort and as feeling wider than marked due to the heel slip.

This is second pair of Renegade GTXs, great shoes requiring almost no break in. First pair were great and were worn for 3 years constantly, second pair also required no time to break in time. The size 15 M was true to size, The second pair are not as well built as the 1st pair, lacing eyelets have been downgraded to round eyelets and the interior of the 1st shoe had a finished sole lining which was stitched together the 2nd pair does not have a finished sole lining. Despite the changes I am not sending the shoes back!

The fit is excellent out the box. No stiff break in at all. These are very stylish and good well made all leather shoes at a bit higher price point but below this level most others are cheap junk. The outsole is very grippy but does wear down a bit to fast on pavement/concrete or if you ever so slight drag your heels on those types of city surfaces. They are not hot in the summer. They offer excellent support and are great for day or light hiking on trails. They are a bit low cut for mid level hiking on poor trails as the ankle cut is at or below the ankle. The stiching could be better with a bit heavier duty thread as the stitching can snag and become frayed which is frustrating. With the Lowa shoe care products these shoes will last a full two years of every day use for casual and infrequent light trail hiking wear. After that the outsoles are worn down to the midsole. Im on my 2nd pair of these shoes and would buy again. The pictures show a very worn 2yr old pair where the outsoles just wore down. Example of the stitching issues if treated roughly. heavier stitching really need to be fixed.

I struggle to find low hikers that meet my needs and fit well, because I take a size 15 wide (occasionally medium width). Nonetheless, I am very happy with these Lowa's. I hike in the foothills around Boulder, Colorado, and I believe that the soles on these boots/shoes will make me feel secure, and insulate me from the rocky surfaces. To find fault, there are three places where the brand name appears on each shoe! Stop it! I am not meant to be a billboard.

I’ve owned about three pairs over the last 13 years and fit is perfect each time. I agree with the one reviewer that when they dropped the hiking boot style metal lace up hooks several years back was a disappointment. Never the less, still my favorite hiking shoe overall.

Great shoes waterproof as advertised great support

I don't write many reviews but for this product I simply must. The quality of these shoes is astounding! I have walked approximately 3500 miles over the past six years in these shoes and I expect to get a few more years out of them. At that time I will try to find someone to re-sole them (they are that good!) I had bought a second pair a few years ago, to serve as a backup if the first pair wore out. They are still in the box, unused. One secret to the shoe longevity: about every 3 months I put a little ShoeGoo on the heavy wear spot on the outer heel, and a little bit on the midsole. The Vibram soles will wear out in a few years, but leather uppers look like they could last the rest of my life. So now it's a contest: who will survive longer, me or the shoes? I'm afraid I have to bet on the shoes!

The Most comfortable Lowa out of the box. I’ve had lots of Lowa boots and these Fit Perfect. I just love these boots.

For a very narrow foot, this roughly 'B' width shoe still does the trick more than adequately. Laced tightly, they're very comfortable and very good for hill-walking.

true to size

These are excellent low hikers, but they are simply the wrong size for me. I typically wear a 9 wide, but my feet have widened with age and these looked like a good solution. Alas, they are too roomy in the toe box and would require very tight lacing to keep the shoe in place - a bad solution for a hiker. So, I'll go with a less thick insert.

I have been purchasing Lowa for over a decade and for me they are the best fitting shoe. I do not even have to try them on as the fit is great. I always have 2 to 3 pairs in circulation at a time.

I am hard to fit since I have at least a half size difference from one foot to the other. So unfortunately, I had to return this pair since only one side fit well.

In my opinion, these are the finest hiking shoes anywhere. I’ve worn this model for the past 20 years…just replacing it when it wears out.

I am an experience Lowa user. I use both this shoe and their hiking boot all the time. This purchase was a replacement and it felt like just the same fit as my others. Good job. That is not always the case with shoemakers. That said, I love the "Renegade II GTX" pictured below and keep pressing to make it again. The best walking shoe they ever made and the lacing system was amazing. Too worn to wear.

These are my favorite every day, all purpose, all season shoes ever. I have rebought the same pair every couple years for at least the last decade.

They fit good. I had a pair that lasted six years just great shoes!

They feel good. Perfect for maintaining some tactical capability while remaining low profile. My second pair.
