I bought this jacket last December just before it started to get a bit cold so I wanted to put it to test before i could give my opinion on it. And now since i have been using it regularly for past few months , here it is:
For quite a long time i was looking for minimalist , clean looking winter parka but i didn't find one till I came across this Arc'teryx Therme and Thorsen parkas. Initially i wanted to get the Therme as it looked almost the same and was cheaper but didnt like the fit on that one so I decided to go with this. This jacket is extremely light for the warmth it provides, although it may not be the warmest parka out there but it gets the job done very well plus its water and wind proof. I live in the Nehterlands where its doesnt get that cold (coldest i have experienced this winter was -4 or -5) and this jacket gets the job done . But It does rain here a lot as well plus lot of winds, it performs very well in in these conditions. But i did notice that the inside of the sleeves (just at the wrists) does get wet and soggy on the inside (just where the cuff gasket seal starts ) if i am wearing in heavy rain especially when I am on a bike. But I guess its how goretex on this performs and it does keep me dry nonetheless. I have a winter coat from Rains which performs a bit better than this in rain but that one is not as warm as this jacket.
Regarding the size, I always shuffle between S and M depending on the brand. I m around 177-78 (5 "10) weighing around 70 kgs, waist 30-31 and i have opted for size Small for this parka. I tried on the Medium at a store here and found it to be a bit too full and big for m, it kinda draped over me. Also sleeve length was a but too long for my liking. I like my jackets to fit a bit slim and not too puffy . I couldn't try the Small size at a store as it was sold out everywhere but luckily found one online which I ordered without a second thought. The small fits great, I could easily put two layers underneath without any issue at all. On cold days I wear a t shirt , a shirt and a sweater underneath this jacket and it fits great without any issues. Also the hood on the small one fits much better than the one on medium.
Over all I am very happy with this jacket, i feel its worth every penny! Props to the guys at Arc'teryx for coming up with this (almost) perfect city parka

This jacket is by far the best winter jacket for cold conditions. I went through 7 different jackets so that I could get to this one. Its well worth the money and you can feel it as soon as you put it on. The best part is that it is extremely durable, waterproof and versatile as you can take this to a formal meeting or to a quick ski trip. The hood down insulated as opposed to the other jackets in the urban category. It works great in sub zero temps. Still havent tried lower than -30C but it worked well at -23C with just a T shirt underneath.
This jacket is a serious investment and I would recommend it for someone that lives in harsh, nasty cold weather like the one we get in Ottawa / Montreal (can get as low as -45C some days). It might be an overkill for someone that lives in NYC but everyone handles temperature differently.
As far as the fit, Im 6' and 193 lbs and was surprised to see that their Medium fit perfectly with enough room for a sweater (usually I'm L for winter and down jackets).

This is a great coat and so far the best down coat I ever purchased (and I had quite a few). It is extremely comfortable, flexible (no stiff fabrics used) lightweight and the stylish design is just awesome- minimalist with no fluff. All what you need but nothing more (But if you are used to carry around 3 phones, two wallets, a bunch of keysets and some other spare parts, this coat may not be for you, as it has only two zippered side pockets, which you would also use for hand warming, one outside breastpocket (for a large phone or similar sized item) and one inside breastpocket (same dimensions). The attention to detail is amazing. The coat keeps me warm in all New York City wind chill temps without becoming overly sticky or uncomfortable when temperatures hover above 35F. The only issue which I have is the limited color range of the fabric. I chose the grey fabric, because, well, everyone has a black coat here. While the grey color and texture of the fabric in itself is nice, it is somewhat difficult to match with anything else than black or grey pants (with many blue tones, e.g., the grey does not match well). I wished Arcteryx would at least offer a navy blue colored version of this coat (there is a similar coat design sold in navy blue under the Arcteryx Velliance brand, however, at almost double the price)

Love this parka, fit much better than my Therme. I like how its lighter and longer. Very waterproof and warm. Will be excellent in -40 weather here in Alberta

This jacket is dubbed one of their warmest urban pieces and it certainly lives up to its reputation! Arc'teryx updated this piece to include a double zipper, which makes it great for the car trip. Some have said that they can wear this without a couple of base layers - I still need them when the temps drop to 15 degrees or less. There have been some concerns on the hood being too big, but it's been fine for me. Very warm, shell feels strong, wind protection - very happy with the purchase.
I'm 5-11 and 160 lbs - medium fits great.

Gave my new Parka a test run last weekend. Hugging the touchline in the wind and rain on a very cold November morning. Well protected from the elements, hand pockets very comfy and the extra length v's the Therme Parka provides that little extra protection and worth the extra few quid.
Was a bit concerned initially about the fit. I chose a Large and I'm 5,9 35in waist and stocky and the fit is perfect. A medium would have been far too small.
Would recommend this jacket.

This is quite a nice and warm jacket. However, I wish it weren't as thick around the mid section when zipped up. It's fine when it's not zipped up; it fits well through the shoulders and the arms, but I guess it's a little thick around the mid-section for functionality. It's definitely not a deal breaker.

I usually don't buy "casual" jackets, but I figured I shouldn't use my ice climbing jacket as my town jacket. I was blown away with this jacket, its crazy warm and quite light as well. It's really great for those cold walks around town.

In 5 days I would have owned this jacket for 2 years now and I figured I'd write a review as I've worn it well. I'm going to keep this extremely honest to help those interested in purchasing and I'll be making a YouTube video soon. I couldn't find any videos at all on this jacket 2 years ago and I still can't.
Pros:
(1) Very classy (I always get compliments when wearing it and many people don't know what brand jacket I'm wearing)
(2) Great wind protection right down to your thighs, with very little updraft (I used to dread windy days in my bomber jacket, but with this parka my body stays well insulated and the wind doesn't get under the jacket, it's superior in windy conditions)
(3) Lightweight
(4) No huge obnoxious logos/patches that make me look like a walking billboard (I was very close to buying a Canada Goose parka but I really wasn't a fan of the huge patch and the fact that pretty much everyone will automatically know what brand jacket I'm wearing)
(5) Great for those cold rainy days (On rainy days and snow days I feel fully confident wearing this jacket, knowing that the down material won't be effected at all due to the great waterproofing)
(6) Fits like a tailored suit if you get your correct sizing (I'm 5'11" with an athletic build and the medium truly feels like a tailored suit on me. I hardly ever pair it with anything more than a t-shirt/polo/mid weight sweater underneath, but if I did plan to wear it regularly with my hoodies I'd definitely need to size up to a large as movement becomes a bit restricted)
Cons:
(1) Hood design (I absolutely hated the hood from day one, so much so that I considered returning it. The hood is a very important feature for me on those windy days and it does not provide good protection for your face, especially your cheeks)
(2) Side pockets (Although they're not extremely shallow, they could definitely be a bit deeper, especially when compared to my previous winter jacket. I am a commuter and I usually carry more than others in my pockets. When wearing gloves and I have my hands in my pockets the spacing in there in cramped)
(3) Warmth (This is not really a con depending on your use for it, but I previously wore a North Face I purchased in 2014 and when it's as cold as -15 to -20, I can wear it with only an undershirt and a polo and not feel cold. At those temperatures with the Thorsen, I usually need to also wear a mid weight hoody. However, as I live in Toronto, we haven't hit those temperatures in a while and when we do it's not for extended periods so I still wear my North Face on those type of days.
In summation. If I had to purchase this jacket again, I wouldn't think twice about it. After owning it for 2 years now, it's still my favourite winter jacket. The ONLY reason I'm giving it 4 stars is the hood design, if not for that it's an easy 5 star winter jacket for me.

Bought this jacket due to its minimalist design, Gore-Tex shell, longer length, and overwhelmingly positive reviews. I am in between Medium and Large is almost every piece of clothing, so I ordered a Medium at first due to everyone's "this jacket runs very large" reviews, but found that a Medium was very, very tight and could not fit anything but a T-shirt...a sweater prevented me from getting my arms through the armholes. The Large fits as expected with room for a hoodie or light jacket for layering, great fit and much more happy with the size. For reference, I am 6' tall and weigh 190Lbs with an athletic build.
The jacket itself is warm and very fashionable in comparison to the utility-styled parkas from other brands. Worn it so far in 20F-30F temps with 25mph winds with a long sleeve T-shirt and it was warm enough. There is definitely a cold spot under both the armpits, which seems to be from lack of insulation or different insulation in those spots, but again may be helped with a thicker layer underneath. Unsure if this will become problematic over time, but we'll see. Very impressed with how lightweight this jacket is while being so warm, which was a nice surprise.
Upon inspection, I noticed the baffling inside is noticeably different than most other brands I've purchased: each cell more or less folds into itself and overlaps with the baffling next to/above it, which hides stitching and seams inside the jacket so they are not readily viewable without manually pulling the baffles apart to check. This is different from most others where you can see the stitching between baffles, which leaks some heat over time. I assume is part of how the Arc'teryx team was able to achieve such warmth in such a thin and light jacket and I am impressed.
Now for a couple problematic items:
- The hood is a pretty bad design. If you want to zip the jacket up all the way but NOT use the hood, you'll notice immediately that the hood does not lay down or keep out of the way; it simply bunches up and pokes you in the back of the head constantly. I have short hair and it left a line in my hair after a 20 minute walk. Hood needs some attention if/when this jacket gets redesigned or reissued. Adding 1"-2" of additional fabric length on the sides of the hood opening would likely resolve this issue. Wearing a hat limits this slightly, but not entirely.
- The zipper track/elements seem like a lower-quality plastic and seem like they will not last with the rest of the jacket, but again, we'll have to see how they hold up. The zipper pulls themselves are a hefty material and feel very solid, so no issue there, just wish the elements matched that level of heft.
- When fully zipped, the material that rubs on your chin is rough and bothersome. A piece of softer material to mitigate this would have gone a long way to improve comfort. I have a shaved face, so maybe it wouldn't be a problem with someone who has a beard.
All of that said, I have not found a parka this lightweight and good looking in my searching over the last few years. The build quality is also stellar, could not find a single stitch out of place. I will happily deal with the small negatives because the rest of this jacket is so good! I would have no problem suggesting this jacket to someone in search of this style, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Buy your regular jacket size, though!

I bought this coat to use while commuting and taking long walks during the cold winter months. This coat was extremely warm comfortable with just a small sweater as low as -30 without wind. I found it somewhat uncomfortable to wear zipped all the way up without the hood up. It seemed to pull back on my chin. With the hood up its amazing or just unzip an inch or two. I am a little over 6' and found the length great at just above the knee. The coat is not too heavy unlike other parkas that i tried with similar warmth expectations. In addition I often received compliments on this coat for its fit and finish.

I purchased this jacket right before winter in Toronto, and it is quite warm and very stylish for urban use. The only reason that I didn't give this five stars is because I found the collar to be a bit tight when trying to layer the parka (e.g. with an Atom SL underneath). The quality of the jacket is amazing, with lined pockets and baffles that feel like pillows against your body.

Nice warm jacket, all the benefits of modern technical fabrics and materials without the sporty look, great for day to day city wear.
Pros:
- very warm
- good fit, nice length
- understated (no visible logos, zippers, or pulls)
- warm pockets (under-rated feature)
- gaiters at cuffs
Cons:
- very hard to zip (length means you can't reach it, very small zipper flap makes holding to insert very difficult)
- huge hood (seemingly carried over from technical jackets...but no one will need to put this over a climbing helmet, though they could)
- a bit bulky where the arms meet the torso
- phone pocket hard to use (small zipper flap strikes again)
- I wish it was more Camel (wool coat) and less Brown (Carhartt)

Just one less star: why dont you make the wildwood colour (olive green) available for the Therme in Switzerland/EU, as you make for USA?

Bought a year ago, I wear it to go to work, I love it very much until I need to fastened to the top because the hood and collar are to small and it make its very uncomfortable.
I have an alpha AR and cerium LT where the hood are just perfect. You your Parka would be perfect if you merge their hood with this Parka.

Good coat, but after considerable humming and hawing, I bought the Camosun as I cannot abide by hoods on urban clothing. To make it great I suggest the following:
1) Lose the hood. Don't need it on an "urban use/style" coat. Give it a good stand up collar similar to that used on the Camosun. Leaving the hood on it leaves it in "no mans land"... one foot in mountaineering, the other in the city...just ends up looking like a compromise IMHO.
2) Lose the poppers on the sleeves - don't look good and just problems somewhere down the road. Use the Camosun's style of sleeve.
3) Like the Camosun, it looks to flair outwards towards the bottom hem. Suggest changing the cut to taper it inwards (ie: coat gets slightly narrower) towards the bottom hem. Will help with wind and improve the profile of the coat...after all, it is for urban use...

I was deciding between this and the monitor down coat which is more than double the price of this, and while this coat isn't cheap in its own right, it does well compare to other coats coats of a similar value.
You can see the main points in the pros and cons. The neck tightness is set by two drawstrings which are inside the coat but the locks are awkwardly placed in the side of the hood. The hood height is set by a back of hood string which is also tricky to use under a flap.
However, once you've set your hood how you want, you'll hopefully not need to set it again. The down goes through the arms and right to the bottom of this long coat. If you want a slim fit, you will very likely be able to size down.
It could be slightly warmer, as it is 750 down and i can tell my 850 cerium lt hoody is a bit warmer, but I really don't think this is an issue for me living in London where it only just goes below 0C a few times a year and often can be between 0 and 10. For me, 750 might even be better suited.
A lot of your money is going to the high grade goretex pro which should be very strong even against rough abrasion.
Don't expect to look ultra stylish; it's a practical piece and you'll look a bit like a classic fisherman, no surprises there. A little plain but you won't look bad. Maybe go grey if you want an alternative look.
The hood could do with more side of face cover for my liking and the mouth cover a little closer to the face. The wrist material could do with thumb holes. I'll probably just use a neck gaiter on windy days though. Only 2 main pockets with no down cover on the outer surface, just the goretex if you put your hands in them.
Overall a good coat where your money is going to general warmth, durability, waterproofing and windproofing. It could do with a few improvements but to find coats like that right now will cost you much, much more.
