We buy these 2x per year every year for our son with extra wide “Flinstone” feet. They last longer than the semester; however, he is hard on shoes and these work out great.

I love this shoe. I have worn the white ones for about 10 years and have 2 extra pairs in the closet in case they stop making them. I own the black also. I am hard to fit and am an adult who wears a size 2 XW and also need the easy velcro straps. Recently, I was in the mountains in school and it rained for four days straight. I was walking a lot outside and my feet NEVER got wet. They fit perfectly, look good, are stable for walking and totally waterproof. I have discovered I can also wear the 680 style, down 1/2 size in many colors and still XW. They are lighter, fun to wear but not waterproof !!!!!!
I'd also recommend:
None except New Balance unless they offeran extra wide width.

The toe area is nice and wide The outer sole is wide not to turn ankle when walking . Better than 4E woman's. However the sole is not quite cushioned enough. I also use orthotic. will buy again !!

They are good shoes, but my sons wears insoles inside and wish they were a little deeper. His foot pops out. Other than that a great shoe for a kid who has flat feet and a detached growth plate. His feet do not hurt anymore. Good shoes!

Every year in January I buy a new pair of New Balance black shoes. I love the black ones because I can wear them with dress slacks. They are comfortable and they fit perfectly. I need no break-in period with these shoes. I took this new pair out of the box and wore them on the treadmill--no problem at all. These are the only shoes for me.

These shoes are perfect for my son who wears KAFO or AFO. I got the XW and there is enough room for his orthotics without looking bulky. He loves how they fit comfortably and with just a little push or using a shoe horn, putting them on is easy.

This review reflects the white shoes in size 6.5 XW.
The pair we received were perfect, no complaint whatsoever. Only real frustration relates to our difficulty in finding this shoe in stock. As I have now purchased 5 pair in the last 2 years I may be helpful to those who struggle with a hard to fit wearer.
The black style runs narrow compared to the white. So, if you normally wear a M width, you may need a Wide in the black. The shoes are really made well and survive beyond expectations. Hope this helps.

These shoes are great for my daughter because they provide her with quality athletic footwear for phys ed while also meeting the school's dress code. It's hard to find good running shoes these days that are all white / all black and don't have loud logos/designs. Thanks, New Balance!

I love this shoe, no matter what number they call it. I would order this pair a half size larger ( my experience) and simply try it if you think the other 608's are not durable. I have worn it year round, mostly in white, but in the black also. The black and white NB Balance sneakers in this used be leather. These are classified here as 608 but they look exactly like my KL 624's. I have bought them for 10 years and they never wear out on the outside but a new pair is wonderful on the inside. They would be especailly BETTER for the parents who said the other 680's wear out too easily, These LOOK just like my 624's which are more durable and are waterproof, as water will leak in on the colored versions of this style when kids step in a rain puddle and not on these. Zappos lets all buyers send shoes back with no question, but order these for more durability, possibly in two sizes- typical 608 size and a second pair 1/2 size bigger in length. This is how you find the perfect shoe, then can buy it again in other colors or as your child grows. I don't think they mind your specific testing shoes for a perfect fit and the parent's requirement. Use a charge card or Pay Pal and juggle the time between trying on and your quick refund.
I'd also recommend:
N Balance for XW: Merrell, W, Jungle Moc,53639,w/ 1 Vel.strap, black suade top/sneaker sole 1.5 W.
