As stated in other reviews these boots really do hark back to a different time. They are VERY heavy and well made, the leather is this and hard and does require a lot of wearing in. I have been wearing and treating my boots for a over 3 years and they are not really showing signs of real wear! I have had some rubber sole addons put on because my knees and ankles ache so I like extra cushioning in my shoes. Also, I never wear heavy socks so I bought them half a size smaller because I was told that they would stretch out, liking my boots slightly on the loose size I wish I hadn't and instead gone with my normal size which is a 12. If you are more of a 'fashionista' and like to change your footwear and to stay on trend then don't buy these because they will be around for years with the proper care; I like that kind of commitment in a product so I am into them. I treated mine with a natural water proofer, I think it was beeswax, anyway it was recommended by the manufacturer and they are great in the rain and snow, though I wouldn't wear them all day in either as they have no lining so you will get cold feet eventually, which brings us back to socks. Sorry to waffle but they are a great investment. Classic, go with anything. I did break one of the 'eyes' but took it to a repair shop and it was replaced easily.

I absolutely love these boots! They are expensive, but consider it an investment. If taken care of, they'll last for years. Style: Think about it, these boots have been around since the early 20th century, over 100 years. They'll never go out of style. They look great with jeans or chinos. I'd recommend a jean or chino with a slim opening, that way it shows off more of the boot. Fit: They do run large, so order a size or two smaller than your sneaker. For example, I wear a size 14 in sneakers, but size 12 in these boots is perfect. Comfort: It takes a few days for the boots to "break in," but once they do, they're extremely comfortable and warm. I like to wear thick, wool socks with them. Perfect for the Fall, Winter, and early Spring. Inspect: Inspect these boots before wearing. On the first pair I ordered, I ran into a quality control issue where the eyelits didn't line up on the right boot. They were off by 1/2"! It's not something I was willing to live with for the next several years, so I returned them for another pair. The second pair were fine. Do: Get some cedar shoes trees to maintain the boots form and to keep them dry. Also, invest in a leather conditioner and protectant. For brands and advice, there are plenty of videos online. Hope this review helps! I did look at several other brands and styles, but decided on the 1000 Mile Boots. They're timeless and I plan to wear them for many years.

I've had these boots for almost two years now and I cannot recommend them enough. They are an absolute throwback to when boots were masculine, functional, and made to last. They look great with jeans, esp. cuffed selvedge denim IMO; chinos; or wool dress slacks in the winter. The leather sole has held up well, and gives them a dressier feel when needed than the comparable Chippewa version. They're obviously pricey, but you truly get what you pay for. Take care of them and they will last for years and years.

These shoes are fantastic. I've never owned a really high quality pair of shoes before, but these are well on their way to becoming my favorite shoes ever. Didn't take long for them to "break in", though they were comfortable from day one. I've been wearing them for a little more than a week and they're getting more comfortable every day. I've take a few photos of them... uncleaned, unpolished, after wearing them every day for over a week. The soles scuff up pretty fast and are a bit slippery, but I think I'm going to get vibram half soles done on them for the extra grip and to help them last longer between sole changes. Definitely worth what I paid for them, especially since I'm planning on wearing them for years.

half size down wasn't enough and full size down was out of stock, so I found these elsewhere in my size. They are quite comfortable from day one. the laces stay tied. they look good with jeans or chinos.

This is a great, classic boot. It's expertly crafted, looks great, breaks in quickly, and wears well. It's a little on the expensive side, but I think worth the premium. I've gone through 5 or 6 different popular boots (Chippewa, Frye, Redwing, Wolverine) and these are definitely the best. It took only a couple of days of walking in them (wear thick socks) to break them in, a week later they are pretty comfortable for a boot. Recommend getting a small gel insole, especially if you're looking for a bit of arch support. Make sure you treat them with a leather protectant/waterproofing spray at least a couple of times before first use. Having a leather conditioner is also really helpful to clean them off and minimize scuffs after a night out (I use Coach's waterproofing spray and conditioning lotion but I'm sure all the major brands work great.) Lastly, heed the advice in the other reviews and order a half size down from your usual size. I'm a 10 in every other shoe, got these in 9.5 and they fit great, maybe even still a hair too big.

Great looking boots, as other reviewers have said, classic style boot that looks terrific with jeans. For me, took some time to break in, especially at the heel, but a little wear and compressing of the leather and they are feeling comfortable. I'm almost always a 10.5 in everything, and I am usually very hesitant to take other review recommendations to change sizes, but the 10.5 was too big for me. Exchanged for a 10 and it fits better.

Half size too big. Needed a 9.5 when I wear a 10.0 in almost everything. Love these boots. Lots of compliments.

Solid, well built boot with very high quality leather. Fit was a smidge large - think space for two pair of socks.

I wear 12 in Nike, with that, go a whole size smaller. After 3 or 4 days of wearing for 3 to 4 hours, they are super comfortable. Do yourself a favor and get shoe trees. Zappos customer service can't be beat!
I'd also recommend:

I wear a 12 in Nike running shoes and have wide feet so as a gauge, go a full size down from that for the 1000 miles.

Great boots. But choose wisely your size as they run a full size bigger. I have worn 11.5 in every pair of everything I’ve owned. 10.5 was the perfect fit for me in these boots

These are great looking boots. They definitely run large. My husband wears 11.5-12 in all shoes but we had to return the 11.5 for an 11. Even the 11 feels just a tad big for him but they look so good we decided to keep them. They are more dressy boots than a work boot. The sole is smooth and probably isn’t great with traction but again, these are great looking shoes!

I've had one of these boots for the past ten years and loved every minute of them. But eventually it was time for a new pair. However, it's been difficult finding a decent replacement. (this has nothing to do with Zappos, it's a manufacturing issue) What do I mean -- every pair I've tried fits differently than the other. Yes, they are "handmade", with a lot of individual pieces and human hands playing a role in the process, so some differences are to be expected. But when you put in the box two boots that are noticeably different shades, that's not the kind of attention to detail you'd expect from a nearly $400 boot. When the leather thickness/elasticity varies significantly from left boot to right boot, that's a problem. When one pair fits Ok and another is 1/2 too tight, that's a problem. When the tongue from one boot hangs off to the side no matter how much you try to straighten it.... you get the idea. When it wasn't one thing with these boots it was the other. One boot's inside sole left a 2-3mm gap between where it ended and the heel cup began, not to mention tons of glue smeared on the leather part of the cup... a good lint trap maybe? Unfortunately with these boots it seems to have become a trial and error sort of thing, which is frustrating and time consuming, both for the consumer and the seller. Maybe I simply lucked out with my first pair that lasted a decade, but so far I have yet to find another pair that doesn't have some issue with it (I haven't even mentioned that the black version is significantly smaller/tighter than the brown -- different cows maybe?!) I would love another pair that just "fits" and feels right like my first ones. Eventually One can hope.

If you’re looking for an old-school boot, with the feel of an old-school boot...this is it. An insole of any kind is not existent. Feels like walking on wood. Some reviewers claim they walk all day in these, I have no idea how. At the end of the day it’s a decent looking boot, seems to be made well. However, I definitely feel as though I didn’t get my money’s worth!! Would not buy again and definitely see these getting dust on them in the closet or donated to Goodwill. For the folks who say “just get an insole”...At this price point it should’ve came with the friggin shoe!

These are truly exceptional boots, my first pair of Wolverines, but certainly not my last! I found that I was able to use my aftermarket insoles, so they were comfortable right from the start. I'm impressed at how supportive they are: They are a firm fit, but required almost no breakin, and after only a few times around the house and a couple of nights out, I was able to comfortably wear them for two straight days walking around the streets of San Francisco.
