Bought these for my husband in his normal size 8.5 and they are a perfect fit.

My son has zero arch support and wears custom inserts. He was able to wear these all day without his inserts with minimal discomfort. We will be adding his inserts for additional support. But he loves his new sneakers and the real test will come next week at onset of the 7th grade.

As a forefoot striker, I've long had issues with typical running shoe brands as their heels always felt too heavy - even with their "minimalist" shoes. Bought these two weeks ago, and I'm super impressed! It feels designed for forefoot strikers, and the shoe seems to propel me forward with every step! I highly recommend them for forefoot-striking runners and those seeking minimalist shoes.

This shoe is great! I'd previously been using the Altra Lone Peak but have been running a lot more on the road and these shoes are great for that. I'd be nervous about taking them into the woods - they are definitely made for the street - but overall I couldn't be more happy. It's like running on a marshmallow (in a good way.)
I'd also recommend:

My husband purchased this same model several years ago in size 14, so ordered the same. It was way too large. Ordered the 13 and it fit fine! They made some design changes that also changed the fit.

This shoe fits like a sock. My big toe was almost up against the front of the shoe. Normally, I would get the next half size up but these are perfect this way. This shoe feels like it was custom made for me. Really comfortable. I use them during workouts at the gym.

I'm not a runner, but I'm always seeking a comfortable sneaker. These feel almost like a second skin. They are super soft, but grip the foot without squeezing. Walking is comfortable and they look great. I would like them in a wider width, but that's my only complaint. This may become my new favorite brand.

These shoes are amazing. They might be the first shoes that ever truly fit me. I have a high arch, and therefore, a slightly wide-fitting foot. With every other shoe, ever, the outside of my mid-foot would hang off the edge of the shoebed. As a solution, I would wear New Balance 11EE or 11EEEE, which worked ok. For years, I wore the New Balance Minimus line. But then the New Balance 11EE started to feel small. I started considering a New Balance 11.5EE. Along the way, I was having problems with calf cramps and my big toe joint began to ache. I thought I was weak. Or getting early onset arthritis from too many sports/marathons/triathlons. The only time my foot/toe seemed to work was when walking barefoot, at the beach, around the pool, playing with my kids. I didn't really put two-and-two together that it could be my shoes. Then I saw a mention of Altra shoes on a triathlon website. And I went out and tried on a pair of 11.5 Altra Excalantes. And the moment I took my first steps in them, my toe didn't hurt anymore. I bought them, and went for a jog. With no pain, whatsoever. My toe felt good. My calves felt great. My running stride felt natural. Suddenly, everything was working again. Suddenly, I'm optimistic again.

I have wide feet and was so tired of my Nike Knit Flys pinching my pinky toe. These shoes saved the day. Lots of room on the sides of the pinky toe and big toe allowing the toes to splay. They have shoes with more cushion but this is more than enough for me. I added an arch support insert and I'm in heaven.

I've been primarily running in the new Solstice and using the Escalante as a day wear/walking/recover shoe. They're nicer than anything Altra's done in memory (you know the moon boot clown shoe) so they are passible for casual footwear while retaining decent running potential. The sole feels like a slightly thicker marshmallow-esque-Altra Men's One v2.5. Switching between them and the Solstice's low profile you can really feel how these could be positioned in a runner's arsenal as more of recovery shoe than a true runner. The toe box is massive and luxurious, it's what pulled me to Altra years ago happy to see them double down here. This may be a personal observation but they seem to have the lacing system sorted - if you were one of those people (like me) who felt pressure on the top of the foot on other kicks, it's gone. Final note: We'll see how the heel holds up. I have not had luck with Altra's material durability over the last few designs. Foam and fabric usually wear out long before the soles or uppers. Fingers crossed.

The wide toe box and zero drop are excellent for promoting a more natural running gait. These are highly cushioned but feel extremely light while running!

I went from the Hoka Clifton 3 to these and surprisingly, I like these better. The soles are surprisingly soft and springy for a zero drop shoe. The toe box is wide and the upper is stretchy which is good for me because I have a tendency to get blisters on the tops of my toes on shoes that have a more snug toe box. I can’t recommend this shoe enough!

I really am impressed with this product from Altra; it really is a change from the typical shoe. The shoe fits quite nicely, hugging in all the right spots. The zero drop and minimal arch support needed some getting used to, as the muscles adapted. But after a few long runs, I was able to tackle full marathons in these shoes, and they felt great! I have a second pair that I used to walk around in; they do look great enough to work as casual walking shoes as well. Love them!

Great shoes! Will buy again. The cushioning is just as good if not better than the Ultra Boost by Adidas. I? usually have to go a half or full size up for running shoes but I? went with my normal size because of the wider toe box, and I’m glad I? did. Minimalism for running at its finest!

I currently am running with Altra Ones and wanted another Altra shoe. The Escalante was a perfect transition. I love the feel of it. The shoe is a zero drop with some padding but you do not feel that high off the ground. They have a very planted feel. I experimented a lot with zero drop shoes and really enjoy running in this shoe.

This is the best running shoe I've ever ran in. I'm a pretty big guy that needs a little bit of support, but I don't like max cushioned shoes. The midsole on the Escalantes is soft and bouncy, while the shoe itself is extremely light and comfortable. I felt like I was lighter and faster and thoroughly enjoy running up to 13 miles in these shoes. I don't know if they could handle a full marathon, but they were great for my recent half marathon in San Diego.

I know Escalante are known to be wide, but unfortunately they are not wide enough for my super wide feet. Wish altra would make a wider option for the original escalante.

I love this shoe. I have been running for yrs. and I am 65yr. male. I started running on Brooks. Went to pearl n2. Pearl stops making running shoes so I have tried mizuno wave hoka Clifton 4 . nothing compared too pearls comfort. Then at a Lloyd all running store they said try these. Escalante. Wow. I was training for my 1st marathon and had 30 miles on them and did the marathon. I found my shoe. Escalante are the best ever. The fit was right on and I am a mid striker so the transition to zero drop was painless.

I normally wear a 13. The 13's felt like I was swimming in them and the 12's put the wide part of my foot in the wrong part of the shoe. The 12.5's came yesterday and they feel great to walk around in but I have not ran in them yet.

This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. Running, walking, hiking, doesn't matter...just bought two more pairs - this shoe is the real deal. You've got a customer for life now Altra!
