Bought this for a 2 week trip to the Virgin Islands this past spring and for kayak trips under the summer sun. Haven't used it yet for kayak trips but I expect it to perform as well as it did hiking in the hot sun of the Caribbean. Often I used just the hat with the sun shade in my pocket. The sun shade packs down super small so I had no problem bringing it along even if I wasn't sure I would use it. On really sunny days I attached it quick and easy-like to the hat and protected my ears and neck from the pounding sun. The hat is nice and breathable and even somewhat stylish!

I am a self-professed gear freak. I own every commercially available brand of high-end outdoor gear, (except Mammut, and I'm still shopping for the perfect Mammut piece), and I have a lot of great kit. And I use it all. But I can say unequivocally, that this OR hat is the most versatile piece of gear I own. Rain or shine, hot or cold, with or without the Pharaoh neck attachment, it is literally the only piece of gear I own, that I use every single day. And I have done this for 5 years without the slightest problem. This is more than just a hat. It is protection for the part of my body that is exposed more than any other - my face. It works.

It is the best beach running or walking hat ever with the neck cape being able to be worn several ways, or not at all. It is easy to install or de-install the cape and this hat looks very cool in a funtional way. So many people want to know where I got it. It is, also my favorie golf hat, with and without using the neck protecting sun cape. Can't say enough about this hat. I am ordering another .

I wore this hat for my 100 miler in Plain, WA. The temperatures got up to 100 -running a 100 milers on dusty trails in some times direct sun, is tough. This hat was a lifesaver.

I bought this hat to replace the Nike Runner hat I'd washed and accidentally shrunk in the clothes drier. I wear the Sun Runner hat for trail runs, half-marathan training, backpacking, and spring backcountry ski touring. I've realized I only need one hat with all the features this cap comes with.

I have owned two of these hats. After the first one wore down, I immediately bought another. The hat is cool in the summer and surprising warm in the winter down to about 25F. If I am outside, I wear the hat. I use it for running, climbing, skiing, hiking...you name it. The hat is extremely light and folds up nicely, which is a plus if you are climbing. I travel extensively and found that it makes the perfect traveling companion on flights, because I can fold it up and put it in my carry-on or even back pocket. The only problem I have had with the hat is durability. Both of the hats separated where the bill meets the hat. Although, I think the damage is more a function of me folding the bill into the hat when storing it.

I wear this hat when I'm running. I'm bald/shaven and this hat is very comfortable. I'd not worn hats before and always had to take my shirt off to wipe sweat from my eyes. This cap prevents sweat from rolling in my eyes and in colder weather helps keep my head insulated. I throw it in the laundry with my running gear in normal wash cycles and it does great.

Another piece of OR gear I tried for the first time this summer when climbing Mt Rainier. For someone who can't hike in most hats because his head gets way too warm this is perfect. Carrying 75+ lbs up from Paradise to Camp Muir this hat (and attachable neck covering) kept me cool and the same pasty white complexion I prefer. In the higher altitudes it fit perfectly under my helmet giving me sun protection while remaining breathable. When sun reflecting off snow is not a concern remove the neck covering and you have a very breathable hat good for all sorts of activities from walking around town to hiking Mailbox Peak. This hat is part of my essentials kit every time I head out to the mountains.

I trekked across Costa Rica with this hat and it protected my neck and (bald) head really well. The only complaint is that the bill is shorter than most conventional caps. As a consequence, I did get some burn on the tip of my nose.

Only problem is that the back can get a little sticky if it's really humid out. Otherwise, a fantastic piece of protection.

Both my partner and I have this hat, and it offers great sun coverage. The adjusting of the head circumference is a bit funky because even if you loosen the band to make it bigger, you still feel a kind of pressure/tightness due to the elastic of the sun shade part that goes down over your neck. Still, it's a nice product and is a nice variation from other sun coverage options (e.g. sun hoodie, broad-brimmed sun hat) that is a good fit for running.

Very light, and large enough for my big head (I wear a fitted size 8).

Both my partner and I got one of these and it's a nice alternative to a broad brimmed sun hat. The lighter colors, too, are great for reflecting some of the heat coming in. The only downside is that adjusting how the hat fits is a bit funky because you can adjust the size of the hat itself but then it can still feel tighter than desired because of the way the cape part fits on the hat using elastic.

Purchased my first one of these about 5 years ago when I was hiking the Camino de Santiago and knew the sun would be at my back for hours each day. It worked great for that purpose. I give it a "4 stars" for the following reasons. 1) it is not very stylish, 2) if the sun is low and in front of you, then it does not work as well as a full brimmed hat, if the wind is at your face, the apron flaps in the wind, and 3) the material is extremely light weight (good), but wore thin and developed holes / tears after a few years. Overall a good purchase . . . .as evidenced that I just purchased my second one this year.

For decades I've worn this cap every time I step out the door. I carry the cape in my fanny pack and don it as needed. I walk a 20 miler one day every week here in south Texas, so I spend some time in the sun. I love the new colors. I still miss the old crushable bill (hence four rather than five stars). It's very light, breathable, comfortable, and flexible; much more comfortable than normal baseball type caps. In cold weather, I pull my wool neck gaiter up over it and it's fine. In my 67 years, I've never found a better cap.

I wouldn't mind the brim being a bit longer, and the drape around part a lighter, more breathable fabric.

I like that the flaps cover neck and sides of face, especially with the draw cord tightened. The flap does snap on and comes all the way off if desired. However, the flap doesn't really stretch all the way to the lower back part of cap. It resets at back of head midway down. Not sure why. Overall, I'm pleased with the coverage and lightness of the material.

I never give 5 stars, manufacturers should always be trying to improve. This was a replacement after I rolled my kayak in the river. Very good hat for glacier travel and all around hiking

I wish the back flap was a bit more breathable but believe it's not breathable as that would compromise bug and sun protection. Overall versatile cap which I use on its on 90% of the time for trail running. Definitely looks a bit geeky when fully closed up but it also definitely keeps the sun and bugs off. Worth it outdoors for sure.

I can't tell this sun runner cap will give you the best look. But it blocks the sun quite good, and feel very comfortable to wear. It has the function of detaching side and back cover, but it is easy just use as it is. Overall quite happy with this product, but there is one improvement. I think the tying strap can be completely open with different design. I followed the size guide before purchase, and it works perfect.
