I am new to hiking, and this shoe provided all the support I needed for mountain hiking in Acadia National Park. The granite rocks were slippery and tree roots were high, bumpy and plentiful, yet the "grip" of these boots never let me down. Strong ankle support is built into the shoe, with an additional piece of leather at the back of the heel to prevent the boot from bending. It would have been easy to sprain an ankle or develop a heel blister without this support. Yes, the fit is a little roomy, but two pairs of socks - a thin and a thick pair - filled the shoe out comfortably. I usually wear an 8.5, and bought the Elk color in 8.5.

This is my 2nd Pair of Newtown Ridge Hiking Boots great Boot. Solid, sturdy shoe with the ankle support I need for rocky and varied terrain. But yet there is give to the shoe, that I need as well. The lace buckles help ensure a good fit and of course an added extra being waterproof. A comfortable fit and equally important, serves me well for the different kinds of hiking surfaces we do. I am glad these are still available, as I have worn out my previous and have purchased this again and sure I will do in the future as well.

i LOVE these boots so much! the first time i wore them was hiking in the snow and they were completely waterproof. kept my feet warm and comfortable the whole time. they're super stylish too!

The hours spent agonizing over which pair to get. And then I laid eyes on this boot. Color, fit, style, price AND the fact that it is waterproof? SOLD. Would buy again. The only thing that I am a bit disappointed about was one of the tread nubs tore off after only a few easy trail treks. This is why I gave a four on quality. I have the nub-and am planning on trying some sole epoxy to reaffix. Wish me luck!

This hiking boot is extremely comfortable and very true to size. Love the color and the ease of lacing it.

I bought these as my first hiking boots and I'm impressed! They kept my feet dry while hiking in the pouring rain and also helped me keep traction on the slippery mud. I put a small insert in these as they are not good for standing still but they're still kind of uncomfortable after awhile. I just need more support. That's a me thing though, so I'm not knocking any overall stars!

Can't wait to wear these hiking. They are very well made and comfortable. Priced really well for the quality. They run small. I wear an 8 or 8 1/2 but had to order a 9.

I wore these out of the box without breaking them in on a trip to Calgary and Banff. I went hiking for miles with these in rain and shine, mud and snow, and even biked with them on for 13 miles. They were SO comfortable on my feet and ankles. Bonus-even on muddy paths they were resistant to getting dirty! Love love love them and can't wait to take them out again.

I purchased these boots ahead of a trip to Colorado. I bought a 7 and 7.5 to figure out which shoe fits me best, I ended up keeping the 7. The boots fit me perfectly with my hiking socks and felt great on the mountain. I was able to attach microspikes to the boots, which was great since it was icy on the trail. I wore running socks with the boots when wearing them to walk around town. For those uncertain what size you may need.. I am a size 7 for flats, 7 with Nike Frees, and a 7.5 with my Asics running shoes (running shoes are bigger, but tied differently). These boots kept me comfortable and dry. I would recommend these boots to anyone. You need zero time to break them in, which is a plus. And the price? Can't beat it.

I love these boots. They are very comfortable and supportive. My ankles are protected while I hike. These boots are well made and water does not leak in through the seams.

Great for hiking. These taller boots saved me from twisting my ankle when walking over uneven terrain and I recommend them over shoes. No break-in period was necessary. I wore them with thick socks, all day, and no rubs or blisters even when new. Waterproof to an extent but if the water is deep enough to get into the tongue, that area will leak. Boot is not too heavy so it won't tire your legs.

I love these boots so much and want to go hiking more often just so I can wear them! I got them in size 8 at first but had to switch to 8.5, which is the size I get for my running shoes anyway. I did not break them in at all, and the first time I wore them was for my hike from the Yosemite Valley floor all the way up to the top of the Half Dome and then back down. These boots were so comfortable the entire 12 hours! They are also extremely grippy and worked so well on the intense incline near the top of the Half Dome, I didn't even slip a millimeter. 12/10 would recommend!

I'm relatively new to hiking and needed to buy a pair of shoes that wouldn't break the bank, but also have all the qualities for support and comfort. I looked for a couple weeks and read review after review. I settled on these and after reading other's suggestions on sizing I picked my normal size. These fit true to size and I had no trouble wearing thick hiking socks with them. I wore them on an 8 mile hike right out of the box and they needed minimal break in. If you're on the fence, I say go for it, the price point is just one of the many great things about these shoes.
