One great trail runner. Some Gore-tex shoes you notice the upper being too stiff or running hot but not these. You wouldn't even know until you hit the wet stuff. The mega-grip sole is excellent. They fit my medium foot great. They are standing well.

I'm the kind of person who resists wearing boots whenever possible. I prefer the weight and feel of trailrunners as I cruise up and down the trail. They offer stability, sticky rubber, and the breathability I want when I'm outside. Nevertheless, finding something comfortable for my wide foot has been tricky. Enter the Norvan VT GTX.
Lightweight yet supportive, they have become my go-to for everything from day hikes to summit scrambles! I wore them on the summit of Shuksan, all the way up and down Glacier Peak via the Gerdine Ridge, and even out and about in town!
Pros:
-lightweight
-adjustable lace system for extra support on the downhill
-super rad colors
-supportive and comfortable, even for my wide feet
Cons:
-not available in metallic colors
-better suited for lighter pack loads
-mesh side vents are susceptible to tearing in heavy scree
All things considered, this is a great shoe that I will wear until they give out, and then get another pair!

Best shoes ever. I have tried all brands, here is the top in the market for trail running. First, the size, would suggest 1/2 size up. The Norvan GTX are very comfortable. I have got an amazing feeling since the first run in the forest. Great grip (Vribram) cushioning and acceleration, and amazingly waterproof. Indeed I have run for 15k, first time, and no pain, anything. The heel is safe and placed in a safe position all the times. Would strongly recommend the Norvan GTX, nice, and good for almost all sport and casual activities. Excellent! Another piece of excellence from Arcteryx.

I got these for use in muddy, wet and cold conditions, so I ordered my usual size in the event I needed to wear thicker socks for some of my snowier treks. With the sizing I was a little concerned about movement while wearing my usual socks, but I was pleasantly surprised to find they did perfectly fine, and the movement isn't enough to lose precision on technical terrain. Getting them on is a breeze, and unless I am running through lots of thick underbrush the laces stay nicely tucked in their pocket the entire run. So far I have used them in hot dry conditions, as well as wet and muddy conditions over obstacles like wet rocks and roots with nothing but accolades about their traction. As with anything waterproof, they aren't optimal for conditions where that feature isn't needed. I haven't mastered the quick move to cinching down the toe box, but even on near vertical trails I didn't feel like I lost anything in the way of performance without using that feature. Now I just need to pick up a pair of the non waterproof version for my hot dry climates!

choose the GTX version as I wanted something waterproof. so my only con of warm is to be expected. in colder environments they are perfect when you get your sock combination dialled in. wore these as a hike of Snowdon Peak in Wales last week. rain constantly the entire ascent and descent. this stayed bone dry thru puddles and downpour. only started to get wet when my pants couldn't hold up to the rain anymore and started pouring water into the liners. on wet mossy rock these were perfect. was sure footed and had the confidence to scramble up and down all angles of rock without fear of the shoe slipping. highly recommend

I bought the gortex version (then the non-gortex version) and loved them due to the feel under foot (not too flimsy not too stiff) comfortable and the traction is outrageously amazing when compared to my regular running shoes. I have had other trail runners in the past but gave up on them and kept with my regular runners.
My only issue with the GTX version is that they get warm. Ill keep these for the cool wet winter days in Victoria and wear my non-GTX when its dry; perfect combo!

Great Shoe. Perfect for running in the wild or hiking on loose terrain or bare rock. Cannot stress how fantastic the traction is enough. I was hiking in the Rockies and the top of the mountain was all boulders, was only able to ascend the last hundred feet or so because of this shoe.

Just put these through some strenuous hiking in Ireland, including the infamous stony ascent of Croagh Patrick and a lot of boggy/rocky steeps in Kerry. They offer plenty of protection if you don't prefer boots, and they're surefooted on any surface (wet/dry rock, heather, wet defined trails etc.) except for anything with a thin mud-slick, which can throw you off badly. The adjustable lower lacing system was helpful and effective on descents. Have to figure out how to best clean and deodorize them as most muck in Ireland has a high dung content.
I replaced the stock insoles with the thinnest SuperFeet ones.

Used my Norvan's by trial through fire, went for a short one mile run on pavement to ensure fit and attempt to break them in the day before a 10k trail race. We had over two inches of rain overnight and while the other racers attempted running on sides of the trail to increase their traction I was able to run efficiently down the middle of the path with incredibly traction and footing.
My feet stayed remarkable dry for the conditions and even though they were incredibly new I finished with no blisters or hot spots, blown away by their performance! Could not be happier with my purchase.

Love my Norvan GTX shoes! They do run about a half size too big, so size down when ordering. These shoes are unbelievably comfortable, and have the best grip I've used in a long time. If your feet tend to run hot, order the non-goretex version.

I definitely recommend this product. My first time using this I went on a 6 mile trail run. I had zero issues w/breaking them in! The traction is incredible and the support and comfort is unbelievable for such a sturdy shoe. In a running sneaker I wear a size 8 but I ordered a size 7 per previous write and they fit perfect!

As my title states, it's not as waterproof as I thought it would be. To confirm, I did purchase the GTX waterproof Gore-Tex version and not the other non-Gore-Tex version.
I used these shoes to hike on the Big Island of Hawaii and boy, the grip was awesome on these shoes as it was wet and slippery on some of the trails. However, I walked through a couple of shallow puddles (couldn't avoid them) and I immediately felt the water in my shoes! I expected the top of my socks to be wet as they are not in the shoe but we all know when there is water in the shoe!
I took the shoes off and sure enough, my socks were drenched.
The pair of shoes fit me perfectly and no, they were not too big on me as I realize these tend to fit a bit large.
I own other Gore-Tex Arcteryx shoes and they definitely held up to the water (my feet were dry) but the shoes are stiff and heavy so I was happy to purchase this pair. Unfortunately, I either received a faulty pair or these shoes are they are not truly waterproof.
Note: I did not completely submerged my shoes into the water. I literally walked through a couple of shallow puddles.

They need to make these a bit wider, I suppose i have a slightly wider foot but generally fit regular trail runners with no problem. These are very slender! Other then that the appear to be the best out there, so very hopeful they make the exact same shoe so it will fit!

Having had these shoes over the winter and used them in various conditions, I can now write a review of the Norvan VT GTX.
These are supremely comfortable, once you have got them on, straight from the box. I usually suffer from painful heels (Plantar) but have had no problem with the Norvan, although I will always swap out manufacturers insoles, in this case with a thin sports insole. Soles offer good traction on most terrain, the exception being mud slick where you will inevitably lose traction and end up breaking stride. Soles are also a good stiffness for off road, just right to be able to feel the terrain without it being painful on the bottom of the feet. I have not used these shoes for any road running so can't judge on how they fair on that surface.
Waterproof? This raises a question about Gortex..Is it REALLY possible to have something that is both waterproof and breathable? The combination on the Norvan GTX is not quite right in my opinion. The feet get very warm in these shoes and start to smell stale quite early on. When you are running through puddles or wet grass, doesn't take long for the water to penetrate the mesh panels, or higher up on the Goretex liner.
After a winter using the Norvan regularly, both the uppers and soles are in good condition, and I expect to get many more miles out of them,
Overall excellent shoe. Because my feet still get wet, I am considering buying the non GTX version for spring/summer to trade cool feet over waterproofness

At first glance, the shoe isn't something I'd be gunning for. However, knowing how well Arc'teryx footwear works for me, I made the purchase. First impressions, they're a little tricky to get on, the Goretex liner is sewn into the the shoe, which from a technical standpoint makes sense. However from a fully functional standpoint, it is difficult to put on with out a little fines. I'm sure over time, this will get easier. I will elaborate after wearing for a a few more weeks of use. The second thing I noticed, is there is a fair bit of extra material on the shoe which doesn't seem necessary, when you tie the shoe up, with what seems to be a well thought out lacing system, you're left with an excess of material, that ads bulk, but doesn't give you the snug fit that you(I anyways) would hope. Perhaps after a few more tries, this too will change, but I suspect not much. That being said, I trust Arc'teryx does things very deliberately, and with great consideration of intended use. This shoe is comfortable, has a great tread, great arch support and is hyper functional, with a few hiccups. This will not stop me from trying out next season's new and hopefully slightly upgraded version of these shoes. If you have a wider foot, and are looking for a trail runner, this may just be for you!
