This shoe fit better than any athletic shoe I've ever tried on. I wanted to like them, but the hard soles caused pain in my heels and calves. I would give five stars for the fit. I gave only one star overall because if a shoe causes so much pain that it's unwearable, the fit is irrelevant. I was happy with these for a couple of days as casual shoes. But the day after my first workout in these I had shooting pain in my heels, plus slight pain and fatigue in my calves. I then read online reviews in which several people complained about the hard soles. (These shoes even sound hard when you walk, unlike any athletic shoes I've worn.) I tried a few more trips to the gym, but I got the same pain every time and even started to feel pain if I stood for a moderate amount of time in these. This sounds like it could be plantar faciitis, but I've never experienced pain like this before. I took them to a local New Balance store. The manager suggested that I try a $40 insole. I tried the shoes with the added insoles for a week. The insoles provided cloud-like cushioning, but made only slight improvement in the heel pain. Fortunately, I was able to trade these in at the New Balance store for a pair of MX80v3 training shoes, which are incredibly comfortable. I have not experienced heel pain since returning the pair of MX857s.

These shoots fit what I would consider true to size. I actually need a 9, but usually have to get a 9.5 because they are not wide enough. These are the widest most comfortable new balance I have ever gotten. I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered my true foot size. Perfect fit. Something I didn't notice from the photo is that these are kind of a fake suede. They look super nice in person and I have gotten sever compliments. Highly recommended for the wide footed human loking for some great athletic shoes.

DH loves them - very comfortable. Maybe runs just a bit big- at most 1/2 size but for tennis shoes better to fit a little big than too small.

It's a little heavier than I would like. Otherwise, it is of good quality.

Really nice looking shoe with support and cushion; however, it's even heavier than v1. Aside from that, seemingly great shoe.

I wanted a good walking shoe with some style, this fits the bill. Not a shoe I'd want to hike in, but very comfortable on the street.

I used to love New Balance shoes, because they were one the few shoes that were wide enough for my feet. About a year ago, they changed; substantially. The giveaway was that leather logo changed to plastic; the foot lasts became shoddy and the leather became flimsy. What was a great shoe company was (wait for it) bought by a Chinese company. I tried and had to return 4 different models (thank God for UPS!) Top story? I'm done with New Balance.
