Definitely a must buy!

I walk every day in the mornings and experience a lot of sun. This hat was purchased to keep the sun off my face and neck as much as possible. It seems to do a good job with that. It's also lightweight and a pleasing color.

I like to use it for bike riding, washing my car and just overall hanging outside

I tried the hat for a week or so. The best feature that sets it apart from all the competition is that the cape can be clipped to any point on the sides of the brim, closer or farther from the face. Fabulous and functional design! On other brands the connection points are fixed. But, I didn't like the rather large TNF logo on the front and center of the cap. Plus, I wanted a true black color, this is only asphalt grey. You can't beat the function.

This hat is great. I'm super pale and was getting frustrated having to put on a gallon of sunblock every time I do yard work. This hat keeps me covered and cool without worry. Highly recommend it.

I work outside and this hat keeps me shaded and wicks away moisture. I love it. Highly recommend it to anybody.

This is hands down the most well thought out hat for someone who is trying to avoid being in the sun. It is very breathable and light weight. I bought the camo one first and once I received it I had to buy the other colorways. It's my personal favorite hat period!

I work outside all day in environmental education as a lead camp counselor. I dislike having to wear sunscreen on my face on a daily basis, this hat saves my face and neck during the bright spring days in the Piedmont while the leaves are growing back on the trees.

I saw this hat and knew I needed it for my desert adventures and summer hikes. I love the fabric, it is very light and cool to the hand. The sweatband inside the hat is a great feature, and so is the removable cape. Speaking of the cape, it has a small button on the front you can clip to make the cape more like a hood for the extremely sunny adventures. 10/10 with this one TNF, great work!

Great ! Light weight! Great For shading face ! Only drawback is the attachable extra shade does not close properly because it leaves a little gap which is fine if you have shoulder length hair.

I work in a rural environment where I am required to spend long hours in the sun. I do not typically wear hats as I generally find them to be uncomfortable. However, this is not the case with this hat. First, it is very lightweight and comfortable. However, more importantly, the detachable hood is an excellent sun shield. This hood doesn't just shine because it is a piece of fabric that covers your neck. Lots of hats have similar hoods. It shines because of the little details that went into its design. The split seams on the hood allow it to rest more naturally and securely on the shoulder. For example, a similar hat from Daluth does not have this feature and as a result the hoods seems to tug on the hat as you move around. The split seam on this North Fave cap solves hat. Next, the clips that secure the hood to the bill are not locked into one place. As such, the wearer can adjust the coverage by either pulling the hood further out on the bill to shade more of the face or in to increase peripheral vision. This is a very helpful feature that is enhanced by elastic slack built into the hood. Lastly, it has the appearance of a regular cap with the hood detached. Based on availability it almost seems as if this product is going to be discontinued so I purchased another just in case. Discontinuing such a wonderful product would be a huge loss to the consumer.

Great hat and quality the color is more like an olive green rather than a dark green as show in the picture.

My father has had this cap for a long time and uses it always when he goes jogging. Great coverage, comfortable. He lost his during a hike so I simply had to get him a new one.

I do not as a rule like hats but I know that I need to use one on daily walks in the California valley. This hat fit well and was comfortable right from the start.

I usually don't like cap and always ignored to use it. I decided to give this one a try and I really like it. It doesn't feel uncomfortable at all.

Fits great with and without the neck shield.

This hat is outstanding to protect you from the sun. When the sun goes down just remover the cape and its a nice looking ball cap. I use it for sailing & gardening.

What can you say about TNF and TNF quality? Their gear is truly expedition-ready and I have found that it more than suffices for weekend warriors like me. While I have no doubt that this protective hat would work perfectly well in the Australian Outback, it works great too for simply taking sun-drenched day-hikes. The ability to adjust the fit of the hat, the fit of the sunshade, or remove it altogether is stellar and I prefer this solution to a permanently attached sunshade. I give TNF high marks for design, execution, quality of materials, reputation, support... you name it. Thank you for another great product.

I Wanted a Light weight cap to wear hiking because I was tired of having my neck and face getting burnt during long hikes. I ordered the Arc'teryx Spiro Cap because I liked the fact that the design was inspired by the French Legionnaires but didn't get it because of stocking issues. After comparing it with other products it seems that a major con of that product was that the flap in the back of the hat was too light and would flap in the wind rendering the neck protection negligible. Enter the Sun Shield Ball cap from North Face........Just Awesome!!!!! The color options are way cool and are true to what you see on their site. Also there is a tie down in the front to keep it from flapping in the wind with a quick slider so you don't even have to tie it really. There were plenty in stock in every color and it is $15 less than the other cap. The neck flap is removable so you can wear it as a regular hat if you would like. Also, it has a Samurai helmet vibe that in my humble opinion is way more BA than the French Legionnaires could ever be.

I have been using it for fishing. It is really light weight and a great fit . It really protects your neck and ears from the sun. I wish North Face made more lighter color choices.

I love everything about the hat, it's elastic band around the forehead and it's adjuster in the back allow my to get it tight enough I'm not afraid to wear it running! However, the bill of the hat came mangled. And it has nothing to do with the packaging, and everything to do with the material.

Protects from sun and bugs

Best looking cap. However, the clips are sort of an afterthought easily pulled off. A little more effort in the finishing touches would make this a top notch sun cap for fishing or working outside. The 2 sides of the "cape" attach with a small snap. Those sun caps with a string are more functional. I like the back adjustment on this hat. Plenty of room for a range of head sizes.
