The one and only problem I have with this shoe - the strap comes apart. On every pair of Merrell's my kiddo has had, the strap has separated into the cloth upper and velcro lower in a very short amount of time (about 3 weeks), making the strap essentially useless (without the strap, it fits very loosely on the foot). Otherwise they're a great shoe. Other than the shoddy strap (fix this already, Merrell), they wear well (and my kiddos love hiking in the woods, so they see lots of heavy wear) and look great. So, if you can handle repairing the strap when they're a few weeks old (double stick permanent fabric tape works well), and again a couple of months after that, then I would recommend this shoe. My buddy hasn't conquered tying his shoes yet, but once he does, we won't be buying Merrill's again.

These had been great but after only 4 months the Velcro strap that secures the shoe has torn apart and no longer functions on either shoe. Not the great quality we expect from Merrill!

I have been loyal to Merrell's for years for my soon-to-be five year old's footwear -- they're tough, non-slip, provide good support, he can put them on and off himself, and they look good. We have always had a problem with the velcro separating before the rest of the shoe wears out, but this pair reached a new low. The velcro fell apart in less than a month! He's already asking for new shoes, and these are too expensive to replace every thirty days. Given that the velcro is the only fastener for these shoes, quality control should and needs to do a better job of ensuring its durability. I suggest buying something else -- I wish I had!

The velcro on the strap is coming off on both sneakers. I have another pair of these and the strap is fine..must be some bad clue.

We were disappointed that the velcro broke on this shoe. Otherwise the shoe seems well made, but the problem with the velcro means my son can no longer wear the shoe. I tried to reconnect it with a hot glue gun, but that did not work. Next we are going to try to sew it with a sewing machine.

These were so narrow. They even look narrow. My son refused to wear them & said "Mom these are for a kid with long skinny feet". Funny thing is that he HAS long skinny feet!

My 6 YO boy was very happy with these shoes. We were too until 6 weeks after receiving them, the leather-like material on top started peeling away, which was an invitation for my son to rip it off. The rip is our fault, but I don't think the shoe material should have been lifting or peeling after only 6 weeks. Not happy with the quality of these shoes. We'll go back to Keens next time.

Shoe looks great and had promises to be a great show but after just a few weeks of my 6 year old wearing them, the stitching on the toe is already coming apart! I'm not happy about it. He doesn't drag his toes or shoes or anything goofy. I think we'll have to go back to keen.
