I use this product for cold windy days. It is great at keeping my head warm, but not as great on ear coverage as it allows too much wind to the ears. It was a good deal being on sale, but would not be as good at full price.

This hat is really warm. The only downside I see is that the earflaps don't cover the bottoms of my ear and I ordered a size up to try and fix this ahead of time but no such luck. But otherwise it is rugged and the drum folds in half for easy storage in a pocket.

Purchased along with a set of PL 400 gloves and I was very warm with both. The hat is great in the cold but when I got a bit active it was almost too warm and my head was sweating. At least it works well.

I like the hat as the warmth of the wool insulation allows me to wear a hat with a brim in the winter while out doing fieldwork. Great for higher output activity as it is a lot warmer then a regular ball cap but lets your head breath more than a traditional winter hat/cap. I wear this down to about -25C as long as its not too windy out. Only downfalls are that it doesn't protect your forehead from wind nor your ears even when the ear flaps are down as they don't fit nicely against the side of your head so wind can still get into your ears. Not a huge issue as I always carry a traditional winter hat for windy days. Good for hat functionality on colder days but if you just want something warm, better to stick with a traditional winter hat.

This hat came looking as pictured. It's nice to wear on cold sunny days when I am doing errands around town or walking the dog. It isn't amazing when its super windy, but I don't think its intended to be "technical." That said, I found the ear flaps to be warmer than I expected.

Finally picked one o' these up after looking for long. Just took it off after a 15 F dog walk, which is what I think it was made for. Sharp look, good fit, and warm. The ear flaps don't hug the head and ears, but that is not terribly important in a hat this warm. Now to keep it away from the covetous wife...

Good hat for the PNW. Warm, washable, and easily crushes into your pack when not needed. -1 star because I've had to resew ALL 4 buttons.

This is quite a lovely hat, seemingly well made and attractive. The top of the cap is warm enough, but the ear flaps will not keep your ears warm. They hang down loosely so that any little bit of breeze will blow right in. If you're the sort of person who does not get very cold, then perhaps it will be fine for you. Personally, my ears are very sensitive to the cold, so this was no good. I tied a bit of elastic around the back, connecting the two ear flaps together so they would stay down tightly around my head, which works decently. Overall, I like the hat very much. It just needed a bit of engineering on my part.

I bought the gray Charcoal Heather hat in Medium. A few years ago, I bought the tweed hat with a chin strap. My old hat was better because the liner was heavier, the ear tabs kept your ears warmer (due to the strap) and the back of the hat was longer, keeping your head warmer.

Basically I am pleased with the hat except I would have put snaps on the side instead of 2 buttons. It would be faster and less cold on the hands to put the flaps down. What I am not pleased about is the measurement guide used when I ordered the hat. I did measure my head and looked at other hats I have and I was 1/4 inch under the maximum for Large. So I ordered the large but it is clearly not big enough. The hat slides up on my head. If I was closer than that to the maximum measurement I would have gone to XL but I though the L would be fine. However, I can't afford to reorder given the shipping costs.

Generally like the product although the buttons on the sides for the flaps is not the way I'd go. I would have used snaps which would be more convenient. My big issue is that my size was 1/4 in. from the top of the range for Large. I assumed that would still mean that Large would fit. It doesn't fit well. Too tight for my comfort. If I was less than 1/4 in. I probably would have gone up in size but I thought the 1/4 in. within the range would do. However, the cost of the hat plus shipping in way to high to replace this one so I'm stuck with it.

I have a small head and a small forehead and this medium feels like a small fit. It is too short in the back. Great ear coverage, but open at the back of the neck. Go large. I'm going to try a large next because i do like the style, it is just too tight and short.

I really love this hat. Comfortable, warm, and the sizing is accurate. However, the Peat Herringbone color is not accurately depicted in the image on the website. On the website, it appeared the Peat Herringbone color was a more light, tan/olive tone. In reality, the color is heavy to green side of the spectrum. I was actually looking for a more neutral color. A color that would go with more clothing options.

I like it, although I mainly just wear it around the neighborhood or when I'm out hiking. It isn't the warmest because the ear flaps don't cover the ears very well. My wife hates it because she thinks it looks silly. I bought a large and wish I had gone a size smaller. I don't really like the flex cut in the bill. I think a more traditional bill would have been better suited.

Planned to use it in cold weather and pack hat in suit case for cold regions of the country. Nice looking hat but baseball hats may be warmer.

The cap is ok but overpriced and I had to pay shipping. The cap does not cover the ears enough. The material used is average quality.

Purchased this had because I have the Large size. ( it's to big) Got this one hoping it was going to be perfect.... it's to small and I have to pry it off my head to remove it. Very tight! I cannot even say if it's warm or cold. Because it doesn't fit good enough to say if it's good or not.

Wore this out on a walk on a blustery day. Was excited to try it out and was very quickly sad that I hadn't tossed another hat in my bag. This hat is cute, but it's not warm, even with the ear flaps down. I'll wear it around cuz I live in southern Oregon, but not on days when I actually need my ears to be warm and not to hurt from the wind. Maybe I'll try it on a cold day that isn't windy, but I'm not super hopeful that the experience will be any better. Oh, well.

Unfortunately it was too big for my husband's head, I measured and got the hat size recommended. It is a warm hat well-made but not correctly sized

I bought this hat while on a cross country trip at the lodge. I thought it would be a nice hat for walking on moderately cold days. The form of the hat works just fine for walking but the lack of a headband and itchy fleece leaves my forehead irritated. The hat is also a bit expensive for the lack of quality (lack of functional headband and poor quality fleece). I hope to return the hat.

I was visiting a cross country ski area when I bought this hat. I thought the hat was good looking and would be functional for walking on moderately cold days. For that purpose it is fine except it is incredibly itchy on the forehead because it lacks a headband and the fleece lining that touches the forehead is a bit prickly. It's also a bit expensive considering it's lack of quality. I'm hoping I can return it as defective.

The hat is warm enough and stylish, but it's pricey for what you get. The earflaps don't do a whole lot to keep your ears warm. They are also inconvenient to use. You have to unbutton, not unsnap but unbutton, four, count 'em, four buttons in order to use them. What kind of design is this for outdoor gear?

This hat was a Christmas present in 2014. The materials and quality are great. It is toasty warm. However.... the ear flaps are designed to funnel any wind directly over your ears. Even my old Army BDU cap had better ear flaps than this cap. I have worn it quite a bit over the past year and really wish the flaps were larger all the way around. The second button holding each side up is also superfluous and can be done away with. I AM glad that these are buttons, not the over-used Velcro.
