Overall very pleased so far. My only concern will be how long the laces will hold-up rubbing against the plastic lace hook or how long the plastic lace hook will last before it snaps in the cold. Finding exact replacement laces has always been a challenge for my Merrell purchases.

This footwear meets the grade, comfortable, light weight, yet built sturdy for wear in the field. Will definitely recommend this product to my friends. I have stuck with Merrell products for over 15 years, never let me down. Bm

i had this pair of artic grip for over 2 years now. initially hoping that it magically grips to ice as those video shows. To be honest it grips only well in cold cold ice. it anything above freezing, it does not offer any more grip. As a matter of fact, i find the sole to be even more slippery than average boots in the wet (non-ice) surfaces. overall comfort is good and it is still lasting well.

I don't understand why the wide option isn't offered in every style. Didn't have the opportunity to try out this pare.

These are hikers but I walk a nice bit and these boots are terrible in loose snow and not even deep snow at that, they're advertised as being good for ice and they aren't at all, This is my fifth pair of Merrell boots but my first winter pair and I'm beyond disappointed, for the price tag I expected much better

Just the 5th time to wear this and after the first substantial snowfall of the season, part of both socks are wet. Not satisfied.

I have had these boots for about 6 months and I had been using them as general walking boots during the summer and autumn. I feel they are decent general walking boots in this situation. I have not found them to be fully waterproof, however. There have been times when I have walked in very wet areas and my feet, particularly on the outer sides by my little toes, have become wet. I was looking forward to using them in winter as they have Arctic Grip by Vibram which is meant to provide grip in certain icy conditions. In the last week I have been able to test these boots out in every type of ice imaginable. We have had black ice, sheet ice, solid ice on a lake, frozen snow, frozen slush, normal snow and normal slush. In all instances where I had been hoping for some improvement in grip levels, I was unfortunately left disappointed. They simply do not offer the grip levels the videos (Google Arctic Grip Vibram) would have you believe. I tested them along my wife's normal hiking boots to see if she was somehow getting even less traction but we were both sliding the same on all the surfaces. The bottoms were clean before use so it was that the surface was caked in anything. There is literally no difference in any of the situations I have tried them in. In fact, my Sorrell snow boots, which have rubber bobbles on the base as much more grippy in the slippy conditions. I am really disappointed, to be honest. My final part of the review concerns the warmth of these boots. They have arctic grip soles and are therefore presumably meant to be used in colder conditions. Over two days of heavy snow last week my feet were VERY cold in them. I even put on an extra pair of socks to keep myself warm to no avail. The conditions here were cold (around -8c at worst) but even so, my Sorrell snow boots had no such issues and even my wife's Keen summer hiking shoes were warmer. It was particularly bad across the whole sole area and around the toes. These aren't the most expensive boots out there but for boots that are advertised to work in colder conditions, they fall short. They don't offer the grip that they are supposed to and they don't keep my feet warm. On the plus side, they have been comfy for hiking in the summer months but they haven't been fully waterproof. They are fair weather boots with supposed winter features in my opinion. Very disappointed. Merrell - as I live overseas, I would be happy to talk to you about these but would prefer a call to me. Feel free to email me for my number.

I bought this for my Iceland trip. I want a more secure footing and hope this could give me some more grip. In general, this boots is ok, the waterproof is ok, although not the best, water does dipped through a bit. But the problem is these soles are not like it advertised. One night I went out at might night trying to chase the aurora, it's cold and the black ice on the ground is so slippery. I thought this sole was able to give me good footing but not. I'm not expecting unrealistic grip power, but it's so slippery that it just no grip at all. Very disappointed.

I can' seem to find any Artic Grip shoes on the Merrell site with Wide sizes... Are only narrow-footed people going outside in the ice and snow?

The region I live in receives cold winters and lots of rain and snow. This boot was a let down. Two people wearing this boot slipped and busted rear in an icey parking lot where we work. Also the water proofing didn't hold up.

These winter boots are amazingly comfortable and I didn't want to take them off, but I bought them for winter where conditions can have light to moderate rain and/or snow. These boots were sold as being waterproof, but they are not even water resistant, even in a light sprinkle of rain my toes were wet and cold. Very disappointed as they were so comfortable and warm. Also, my experience with Merrel is they run a half size too small, so I normally ware a 11.5 in Merrill, but for the winter boot go for an additional half size, in my case a 12, to accommodate wool socks. Also, the special vibram ice+ grip didn't do much help on ice on the trails in Yosemite, but maybe it will work better on ice on a flat surface, such as a driveway. I returned them due to poor water resistance performance in light rain and snowy conditions. But they were extremely comfortable otherwise.
